hey gang. how we doing?
I'm feeling a little sensitive w songwriting this week after getting a pretty nonchalant response to a song I sent to someone for feedback.. it wasn't the person's fault they didn't dig the song I sent to them but the quick fire reply to something I poured my little heart into stunggggg. and it stung more than negative feedback has in a long time. heck, I used to not be able to take criticism at aaaaall but heck I've been doing this thing for a long time now.
I've been sitting w my response today & trying to unpack it a little. should I even care what anyone else thinks? did the feedback sting because I needed the validation or because deep down I really do love the song myself? who knows. FASCINATING.
here is something I wrote yesterday. I think w some bass and soft drums this one could be really fun.. don't really have a title yet.. I think I'll write a mid8 that could have the title in it. anyway - let me know what you think! orrrrr... don't - I'm not sure my ego can take it this week lol
lyrics:
pay attention to me
i dare ya
oh i used to make you weak
i’m down on my knees ! god damn it
how embarrassing that we’re here now
we thought we had it made when both of us were in it
romanticising how it was in the beginning
but can you blame me for trying to make a good thing last?
I want it back
tell me what’s wrong with that
i’m so hung up on how it was
i swear there’s a door
to the feeling i felt before
maybe! that’s that keeps me hanging on
freak out like you could lose me!
i want the fear in your eyes
so fight like a dog, come get me off
don’t go soft, no white lies
remember how we used to be
like an american dream or something from a song
maybe that’s what i deserve
oh maybe i’ve got it wrong
but
i want it back
tell me what’s wrong with that
i’m so hung up on how it was
i swear there’s a door (and i can almost touch it)
to the feeling i felt before
maybe! that’s that keeps me hanging on
