I wanted to write something here. I had a conversation with my friend about, I guess, what's on my mind? And I realized that I feel torn about the content I draw. I love doing all of it, but I feel like my focus is off.

When I look at other creators I look up to, they seem so sure of their path, working on something for years in their unique, welldeveloped style. Instantly recognizable. Granted, some of these people have been doing this for like 15+ years, and I can't really "compete" with that. But I still feel so inferior when comparing myself to other artists.

I don't know what to focus on, like with this comic and my other one running right now. Feral characters or anthro ones, gay or straight, wholesome or depraved... I enjoy all of it, sometimes. It just feels so hard to restrict myself forever to one thing.

This is just a rant, really. Maybe I’ll look back 15 years from now and think it’s funny that I felt like I couldn’t choose a path. Thanks for reading this, if you did, lol.

With art and creative outlets the only person you need compare yourself to is yourself... Your art is recognisable and developed, and very good! I'm sure others will agree that we enjoy seeing whatever you feel you want to create. It's more enjoyable and will give you more peace in the long-run to draw what you want to draw, rather than limiting yourself or chasing what you believe the 'audience' want more.

You don't need to choose a path! Just do what you find fun, what you're passionate about - that's gonna shine through in what you make <3

As a budding NSFW artist (under a different username) I started out with one main goal in mind: to make what I felt passionate about. Obviously I don't always love everything I make and I don't (yet) have the financial pressure of relying on an audience that's willing to pay for it, but I firmly believe that any artist's best work is always the art they feel passionate about. For some artists there's a very specific and narrow niche that they're really into, but for some there's a bunch of things that they're passionate about. I don't think one or they other is better or worse, just different, and the most important thing is to lean into our strengths. If you feel like doing a bunch of completely different unfocused things, go for it; it's the passion that shines through and grabs people's attention (at least in my experience as a viewer).

Yeah but ignoring what "audience" want could result artist dead in terms of money. My main issue is if artist who began with specific condition trying force to shift to the other one. Like Anthro artist trying to be feral or feral artist trying to be anthro. Bubble need to find golden spot between freedom choice of drawing and not betraying those who fallow him from the beginning.

I honestly bet 100% they're not so sure of their path either, but you gotta take a step back and look at exactly what you have which is actually a community of people who adore your work, you are a very talented artist now doubt but also your storytelling is a breath of fresh air in the NSFW scene, its easy to be overwhelmed with so many projects but I think personally you're on a clear path of just doing what you love and we as your audience can see that, the more passion you put in the more we will love your work and on the off chance we dont love it, ah well life is short tell your stories you want to!! Because there will always be people who will love them as you have yet to meet everyone who will

Not everyone wants the same things. So the "golden spot" doesn't exist in a single area of art. I follow DrB because they have a recognizable style and their writing. I'd still be down to see them post porn with no plot, or a sfw comic. But those are things decided by DrB. These things combined are what made me so interested in DrB's art and I didn't decide any of it. If DrB sticks to making things that satisfy their creative itch then I will keep watching. So I really dislike your point on "Anthro vs Feral". If DrB thinks there's an interesting story and good art to make for that story, then I don't want them wasting time doubting the idea because it doesn't fill some e6 tags. The only things we decide should be polls and commissions but even then the polls are made and the rules for commission are decided by the artist, not us. "Betraying those who follow you from the beginning" is very easy to misconstrue as "don't change and keep doing what you used to do". I don't enjoy this sentiment.

The journey for a "recognizable style" is one that doesn't really end until you've decided you don't want to change/refine it anymore. You already have a recognizable style though and I've only seen you improve your efficiency with drawing it. Your art stays amazing and the details only come out cleaner over time:3 Personally for me you've proven you can do a lot with your art and writing. If you do want to keep making variety content in the future, try short form comics. You can always follow them up in the future and it should help with trying new ideas. But if you do ever decide to pick up more ideas for art, I want to see you finish what you've already got going and take care of yourself. These comics are going great so far and I hope you continue to enjoy making them:3

Do what you feel is right and once in a while sprinkle very different things into the mix, life isn't black and white nor is art I think you put so much pressure on yourself for every post and I feel you should just take a moment to just observe what you have right now because you do a lot of work and it feels you might be pushing yourself well past burnout sometimes. I'm sure I speak for a lot here that we love your art and appreciate you as an artist for whatever you choose to do - but bringing yourself so close to burnout so often isn't the right way. I won't keep mentioning it but at least take a moment y'know, appreciate your own art

There are a lot of great replies here, so I'll avoid parroting the same points. But if it helps any, sometimes a lack of focus could instead be a lack of certainty. The confidence to stand behind your work. It's totally understandable when you're balancing different projects of different content. You're bound to get a mixed reception. It's not bad to love and want to do everything though. If anything, it could be a strength. I think it's always best to follow what you enjoy and are passionate about. But whether that path will lead you to satisfaction depends on your goals. What is your reason for drawing? Who are you drawing for, and what do you want to achieve? Pursue what makes you happier, yeah? I think you're an awesome artist. You're unique and I know many others who can glance at your work and instantly recognize that "Yeah, that's Doctor B ain't it?". And I'm sure there are others (including myself) who look up to your style. You got this my dude, keep on <3

I’ve admired you for so long for your comic creation! I wish my pages would look as gorgeous as yours, especially your mastery of lighting and softness. I’m of course biased to ask for feral because it is less represented compared to anthro. But ultimately what is important is that whatever you do is meaningful for you. Experimenting with different things is also valuable and lets you broaden your skills! If you don’t have a focus right now I think that is okay — it may be your exploratory era.

Comiting to such a long term thing like a comic must be really hard, but I'd like for you to know that Its something you've been doing great up until now. I love Force of Nature and all of the characters you wrote there, and about your artstyle, I really believe yours is one of the more recognizeable ones I've seen, up there with Zonkpunch and CanaryPrimary. Your art is by far my favorite on the internet and I hope you keep drawing without feeling bad about it.

Force of nature and it’s universe is amazing. Your style there is unique. I love that you respected the animals morphology there. This current comic doesn’t follow that line. I don’t like human genitalia on your drawings.
