Is there anyway we can get a list of cultivation ranks in order of power?

WilliamDArand

Body Refiner Mortal Refiner Spirit Refiner Empowered Mortal Enlightened Mortal Awakened Mortal Sovereign Immortal Dreadful Immortal Heavens Defying Immortal

Eloren

Chance of Moira being alive? Without Roe probably low to none, but... I guess I hope? Also... Ash in a prison with Keep What You Kill.... chance of Ash getting out early? Cann’t really imagine Ash just Sitting there for hundreds of years.

Mezmer

Knowing Will it could be either. Suspense is killing me.

Eloren

If she dies I’d imagine the heavenly emperor just made an enemy of the Sheng clan. Ya, I want the next book now. Love most of his stories but this one has became one of my favorites.

David

We don’t know what happened to Na either. There’s no if, he has made an enemy. He doesn’t really care about about harming them, it’s all about appearances because he is stronger. He’s the opposite of Ash.

Eloren

Oh good call, I’m guessing she died in the realm lords attack. Totally forgot about her. Crap.

Eloren

Mind telling us how she survived or is that in the next book?

Corwin Amber

Is the prison in a time altered place? Meaning; if they spend 200 years there, how much time passes for everyone else outside of the prison realm/zone/etc?

David

I didn’t even think about that. It would almost need to be, right? The whole charade of forced rewards and punishments doesn’t make sense otherwise.

Eloren

Wouldn’t be much of a punishment if no or little time passed on the outside. I mean I could be wrong but why spend the power to alter time in that realm? Besides it’s not just ash in there, his reward was not being killed, his punishment was incarceration, the other prisoners probably are just there for punishment.

Corwin Amber

@Eloren: depends on who the punishment is directed at. If it is directed at those in the prison, then getting stuck fighting for your life for years, decades, centuries, etc is still a punishment. Especially if you are constantly forced to get stronger so you can live longer and still be alive and able to leave when your sentence is over. If it is directed at the those you left behind, then that is a totally different situation. also it might not take extra power. It might just be an alternate realm/pocket universe that already goes faster than their home realm. If that is the case it wouldn't take any extra power. It just would need power enough to open the portal and toss people through.

Corwin Amber

oops. meant to make this a reply to the earlier chain. oh well :)

Corwin Amber

just because Locke couldn't talk to Ash when the Emperor was talking to him, doesn't mean that Locke couldn't possibly affect the area. Maybe she was able to help activate the doll house ring on Na. Not sure what the range is though.

Daniel Sifrit

eh, The Emperor can fix her if he decides to. He probably will given he didn't MEAN to kill her. Na is almost certainly okay and was left on purpose. The brides needed their rings and access to the stuff (particularly the skills) in the doll house. Because I see a long separation here - Cultivators live a long time. Look at the little pieces.. both sides were set up for it. Ash left Chunhua able to see "promise" - the arsenal and materials they need to thrive.. and Gen to run the cultivators in the realm. Ash has both his Qi healer and a huge stock of alchemical materials. When he comes back the brides will be firmly entrenched in both lower and middle realms. Only real issue I see is Yue, she is going to have trouble rising as high and is going to age more. So will Tala and Moira, so it may just not have MATTERED that she died as far as the story. Tala may have passed from old age as well before he gets paroled. When he gets back he will see a changed world, for sure.

Daniel Sifrit

Not worried about how, she HAD to survive because she was carrying the rings. He told her to get down, I just assume that she DID. She may have just been left behind when Empy ported Ash. It was funny that Rou got the Gulag Express with Ash and Locke.

Eloren

There’s no reason he would heal Moira, she’s just an outlander slave. I will find that extremely distasteful if that’s the route the story takes. I agree that there will be some separation, but 200 years or so would be a bit much. I hope he breaks free or is let loose before That happens. With as fast as Ash rises, and the number of powerful cultivators in the prison as food for Keep What You Kill.... ash just waiting seems to passive.

Daniel Sifrit

"Enemy of the Emperor" .. so, you have chosen death... (might as well hate nature for a tree falling on you) You are describing a "typical" cultivation series - where the MC wants to be Emperor... which is not Ash.

Andy

I also feel like Ash won’t be without knowledge to what is happening outside the prison. His dao is connected to Liu. Their souls are connected, so to speak. If Ash meditates, he will probably be able to communicate with the Brides through her. Perhaps they can even help with getting him out early!

Eloren

He may not “want” to be emperor but he wants to change the way the world works, so he’s going to have to become it anyways.

Bootleg Sid

Feel like we oughta hit you with a pool noodle for that cliffhanger :P

WilliamDArand

It's such an easy cliffhanger though. Only Moira is a question mark.

R.J. Ford

Prison break.. If Shen is in jail then this is where you go when the Realm Lord puts you in Jail. All it will take is for Jia and Mei to go to Old Gen and demand they get locked up... all of them... All the brides... Prison broken!

Kenneth Darlin

My only question is how soon till book 4?

Peter Gerard

Then rather soon. This one is going to do well!

Alex Lindsay

Bought, read, and rated! So so much fun!

deadeyemax

Killing me with that cliffhanger dude.

WilliamDArand

ptff. That cliffhanger is super slow pitch. :D I admit even I want to read more and I wrote it, though.

Vorsayo

Read it, wrote my five star review, and read the other reviews. There a two three star reviews from people not happy about the ending. Which is sad. It is a cliff hanger but the book was amazing. Can’t wait to read more.

Jameric

I think the Emperor knows alot. I think alot of what he did is deliberate. Ashe gained more power in the last two weeks then any before it. But even Ashe noticed his weakness, experiance. The Emperor knows this as well, notice he sends Locke and his healer with him as well? This is the forging of the blade, people he has to protect and save. Endless targets to push yourself to your limits without having to hold back. Incentive in loved ones to get home to. No my friends the Emperor KNOWS what he is doing.

Jameric

I also refer you to context cues. Warm brown eyes, handsome smile. Agreeing soul stealing for power seems demonic in nature. Putting Gen of all people as the new Realm Lord and raising him up. Gen can do more now for Ashley his family and his alliance while he is away then he ever could.

Jameric

I love it, other then the wait. Ashe might be getting that male friend in Shen. The Mark to his Gus. What a better training ground then the prision. And to think what a target Rou was before.... imagine there. NO F'S given.

Jameric

How did the other CC books do compared to Runner verse books. Where in the hierarchy of success do they lie?

Vorsayo

I really hope you are right and I hope this prison is time dilated. I would HATE for ash to get out and Hu, Ju, his parents, Tala, Moria, and possible Yue to all be dead of old age. That would be such a gut punch.

Daniel Sifrit

The Emperor made a whole SPEECH about how he didn't mean to kill her. Why? Its not in character, unless he is providing justification for "mercy" later. He reminded EVERYONE just how powerful he was, so much so that "oops, I broke her" is a valid play. He is canny at a lower level- he is setting up the Sheng to do a lot of the "dirty work" cleaning up. He just "raised" Gen, so it would be very much in character. In fact he "read" everything about Ashley, he KNOWS pretty much everything.

Daniel Sifrit

The Emperor "read" Ashley, and pretty much knows everything about him. He definitely has long plans here. I am thinking its going to be in the 10-20 year range at least in the real world. Maybe longer. I am also guessing he had at least one kid, likely female, on Ju. To the point any children he left in Ju as well as Tai's kid are old enough to train. And the clan will be a good bit larger.

Eliseo Rios

Yes, I can deffinetly see thar happening. Each individual bride going to Gen and committing a "crime" like insulting his shoes or something dumb, then getting the gulag expres straight to ash.🤣

Marauder

Not all of them are going to live that long, taking Ash out of commission for hundreds of years is a bit extreme for the story and a huge time skip.

Marauder

Awesome book, but man that cliffhanger was brutal.

Peter Gerard

You guys all forgot why Locke is there. He is there to marshal forces against the demons. Ash can organize a loyal group of powerful immortals. That translates to godlike beings. The emperor in his caprice has made the Nine Kingdoms more vulnerable to the demons and demon cultivators. He needs to go. Can't wait to see how Ash offs him.

Eliseo Rios

It would be interesting to see if later on Ash tries to behave even more like the brides' husband. I can picture him asking Locke to help him memorize every bride's name, face, likes and dislikes, along with perfect recall of every interaction that he has had with each bride untill then. obviously those memories would be artificially reinforced and would feel more distant(probably to the extreme) than his actual memmories with his main harem, but it would make sure that the brides are happy and loyal. He has basically made a hug and a kiss the official greeting for the bride's to their husband, so it looks like he WANTS them to feel at least a little bit cared for and loved by him, having the brides feel like he knows each of them individually would be something relatively low effort and would allow the brides to feel that care and love, not as much as they would feel as if they were in a one-on-one marriage, but certainly more than they would feel if they were in another cultivator's harem. Every interaction in which Ash approaches some random bride and says something like, "hey [bride's name], how is your brother's leg doing?" would strengthen their bonds to him.

Eliseo Rios

Ok, I know this is my second(or third?) Post but I'm here re reading cc, and I just realized...it's Jing isn't...the source of the life qi...

Eliseo Rios

Yay! I'm not normally first for anything!

Jameric

The set up for Ashe to be gone is obvious, the questions are how long for him and how long for everyone else. Is he going to come back find, he has a son, and he asks dad to please bring his mom home....(Jia kidnapped by her family back to middle realm). Tons of ways he can play with time here.

Drew Risch

I loved the entire book except for the very ending. I didn't care for the imprisonment thing, it felt like the start of something crazy and new that then just ended abruptly, instead of the end or a cliffhanger. Otherwise I loved every second!

Worlok

Imprisonment may only be the lead in to another arc.
