Here's a direct link, to keep under your hat, as a special secret bonus video - and it's just under three hours long (yikes).

It's not a "Patrons-exclusive" video but at the time of posting you are the only people with the link; I will later be adding it to the video description in one of my vlogs, as a bonus for those rare folk who read the details, like I did with the last one :-)

The footage is the real-time recording of my trip up the Avon from Tewkesbury to Comberton Quay, albeit with ad breaks (two) placed at the times when I went through a lock (otherwise you'd just be staring at the lock gate for fifteen minutes)

Special Bonus NotAVlog: real-time cruising on the River Avon, from Tewkesbury to Comberton Quay

This is a special bonus video and it's a biggie - three hours of "real time" cruising from my trip last year, here on the River Avon going up from where it joins the Severn at Tewkesbury, to my overnight mooring at Comberton Quay. Any wobbles in the steering are probably me filming something at the back and thereby being distracted. Got a question? I enjoyed this. More importantly, I let the ads run so you got some revenue. What helps you more? Ad revenue from youtube or affiliate links from amazon? I spend $$$'s a month on Amazon and would be happy to trigger that from an affiliate link just to let Amazon subsidize your life. If 10,000 people think like me, you have a retirement set up for you!

Fantastic. Almost like using Google street view to look at things along the road, albeit with live video instead of still images. One question: Is it permissible to moor most anywhere along the River Avon like one can along a canal? Thanks for your continued great camerawork.

David Johns

Hi. Thank you. Unfortunately you very much cannot moor where you like on the river (and indeed on all rivers, as far as I'm aware). That's because unlike the canal they do not have a towpath which is land owned by the canal owner and therefore available for mooring. Rather, the riverside is (generally) owned by whoever owns the plot of land next to the river and they have absolute rights over who can stop there. On the Avon there are labelled mooring places, some owned by the Avon Navigation Trust, some owned by other people with whom the ANT has an agreement. If you moor anywhere else, you might get away with it (if you can even get near enough to the bank to tie up) or you'll get an irate landowner coming to have a chat with you :-)
