Actually, an everything update. With the new cruising season impending (OK, April ish onwards), I have decided to upgrade a few bits to bring hopefully even better videos to you.

So, if all goes well I intend to start filming in 4K resolution (ie very detailed images for those who stream to their big TVs), on both the bow camcorder and the handheld one. As part of this, I'm swapping software from my much-beloved Sony Vegas 13 to the immensely powerful Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve Studio 15 (as seen above except I only get the software not the massive mixing desk and TV...)

I've also bought new memory cards for the camcorders to cope with the file sizes and a 4TB portable hard drive for the same reason (4K filming means MASSIVE files). I suspect the "not a vlogs" will still have to be HD because otherwise the files will be too huge to upload but the vlogs will hopefully go 4K without any issues.

One final bit of new kit I'm rather looking forward to using is a Tascam DR-05 stereo audio recorder which will go at the bow to pick up really nice, good quality stereo sound to go with the bow footage. I've never been happy with how much engine noise and cratch-cover rustling the camcorder's built-in mic picks up, so a standalone device should bring a really nice improvement with good stereo image and lots more of nature and less engine. Anyone watching with headphones on or a good stereo setup on their computer should hear a world of difference.

Anyone interested in a Patrons-only video showing this stuff in action, let me know; and thanks as always for your support because it's that that makes these kind of upgrades possible.

Very interested to see your new equipment, David. I use a Zoom H2n for recording acoustic music. It will be interesting to see how Tascam shapes up for you

I like it so far; splendidly simple to operate and sounds fine. Stereo soundfield maybe not as pronounced as I'd want but that's probably a good thing, nature shouldn't sound like a Queen track... ;-)

As an indie film-maker, my only thought it it might be worthwhile buying do automotive insulation to add to your crouch plates to reduce the amount of noise coming from your diesel motor to your audio feed. For £30 or £40 you'd be able to reduce your dB level by 30-40% or so.
