Greetings world builders!

I wanted to ask you a question today -

What is your pain point?

Some of you have been around for years now, some of you joined just today, but something unites us all in this wonderful hobby - battle maps.

We love to unveil that beautiful, complex, mansion, the terrifying dungeon, that haunted forest. Watching our players enjoy those environments, cooked up in our minds, in uncomarable to anything else.

What I want to know from you guys, is -

How can Moonlight Maps make your lives easier/better/more fulfilled? (I know this answer will be different for a lot of you, but I'm curious). Why are you here? How can I save you more time? Are you looking to impress your players more? Do you want me to make assrts so you can customise your maps more? Do you want more specialised maps? A better search/library solution? Releases less often, or more?

I want to find out how I can be a better service, and you, my friends, are the oracle :)

I'll go through every answer in time, so feel free to open your mind in the comments below, my inbox, or the discord server.

Happy gaming!

A better search/library function would be great. Another thing that would be great: the ability to buy packs of maps by terrain, e.g. get the desert version of a bunch of different maps, or the underwater versions. I have a surveyor subscription (because money) but would really love to be able to add a set of maps grouped by terrain on Roll20, rather than getting 20 versions of the same map. So slicing and dicing packs in different ways, if that makes sense and is something you're open to considering. Caveat: I'm not sure if the way you currently bundle maps is because that's how you make them or because you think you make more money that way. I was just thinking about this because I'm working on a forest adventure (specifically, a magical forest infested by an elf supremacist cult, and the forest is very angry about the cult but can't distinguish between people, so it keeps moving around and will push people back to its outskirts when it can). I need maps for 14 areas, most of which need to NOT have roads/paths. Of course I have a bunch of your surveyor forest maps (and Atlas maps), and they are gorgeous. Thankfully, there are a LOT of forest maps, especially when you include the switch set, so it's relatively doable, though I'm still using the Forest Glade several times. But if I could easily buy a bunch of different forest maps (that mostly aren't forest by default) to add variety, I would. I suspect that being able to get a set of underwater maps or snow/ice maps, etc. would be similarly popular. Certainly I would be more likely to buy additional map sets if they were bundled that way, because I mostly plan for things by setting.

Thank you for your thoughts, Gillian! I do have a few theme/terrain packs actually, and I have someone building more of these for me at the moment (because, time...). So that's good that there's interest in that area! I'll touch base with my team and prioritise some more of those terrain packs. Fyi I release the map packs with this current format to offer diversity for different patrons campaigns - Forrest, tundra, and desert seem to be the most popular campaign settings so every pack has someone someone can use. I'm always thinking of new ways to improve what I do though, so feedback like this is really great. Your campaign sounds great! :)

2026-09-06 13:00 I use your maps on the weekly for my campaign and one-shots, and would love asset packs such as flame or water effects. Just groups of images that I can drop into my VTTs would be fantastic.

Water effects is a nice idea! I do have a fire spells pack which includes a lot fire, but general flames could be good too. I've started compiling general assets too, actually :)

Customizations would be a great addition, I feel. For the most part, I try to find maps that fit the setting as close as possible, sacrificing some small details here and there because I'm just, frankly, not good at making maps from scratch. I'd love to be able to take one that's built up already and just move things around to fit whatever image I have in my head, like playing with building blocks or something. I always use your maps because of the quality, and it saves me a ton of time on my Foundry games because I don't have to spend time adding walls and lightning. Of course, with customization, I expect that particular bit to be sacrificed, but if I can get even a couple steps closer to the way I envision a battle map, I'd sacrifice that saved time to play around with setting things down on the map and making it more accurate to what I've described. It sounds like you're compiling assets so maybe that's on the horizon! On that note, I definitely don't want to see those pre-made maps done away with or anything if I'm accidentally coming across that way. I love them, and I'll continue using them so long as I'm DMing -- I'm certain of that much.

Saelios

You do amazing work and I love it all!! but a few larger maps would be greatly appreciated. a couple towns with full buildings, larger castle maps, multi-room caves, that kind of thing.

MoonlightMaps

Thank you, Grey! Really glad you're getting so much enjoyment from them, that's really good to hear. Assets are on their way, yeah. So there'll be lots to play with. They work best for plain maps, really, but you could of course furnish an empty building to your liking, or make your own ruins, etc. Thanks for your thoughts!

UHDNRT

I'd love the option for some less 'full' versions of the maps.

MoonlightMaps

Hey Andrew! How do you mean? Emptier map versions for your own assets?

MoonlightMaps

I'll certainly look into it, Saelios. Larger maps use a different produciton setup, and take a lot longer to produce. They also make a larger file size which can be problematic for online VTTs/ Other creators do larger maps very well, which is why I focussed on highly detailed atmospheric encounter maps, but I'll see what I can do :)

An easier to search library would be nice. :) You make beautiful landscapes and battle maps, but I’d be interested in seeing a few more “people live here” maps.

I like the idea of more city maps, maybe some of varying cultures. I also like the idea of maps that are customizable, maybe make two separate versions with and without clutter and provide asset packs so we could apply them where we want. Dungeondraft Assets and asset packs in general are awesome so I'm always up for more of those. Either way, I'm here because your maps are well made and they inspire me to create things for my players and that's the most helpful thing at the end of the day. Keep up the good work.

MoonlightMaps

That's really useful thoughts, thank you Mellow! A good few of you have mentioned cities/towns, so I'll definitely line those up into the schedule :) Un-furnished maps also sounds like a nice option for you all, especially since I'll soon be releasing my assets (which in itself is a long process). I'm thinking of releasing them bit by bit so you all have something to use sooner rather than waiting for everything to be available!

Hey hey! I love the maps, but sometimes I'd like something a little more generic that can be rolled out for random encounters, or more simple areas. Elaborate maps with interesting scenery is great, but sometimes you just want something really well done, but simplistic. A simple cave or countryside scene, a well done alleyway, or selection of that type that can be easily inserted.

Christopher

My preference would be multiple maps that combine to make one whole, or one really massive map. Some of your maps are already large enough that within the Dynamic Dungeons editor I can right click and scroll, showing additional edges of the map. This has my players thinking outside the box, as sometimes they struggle to imagine that the world continues on past the edges of the screen. More recently I've even had them retreat to a different map to draw creatures into an ambush - so you have my thanks for that! The concept of different sections of the same dungeon, city, castle, etc. piques my interest for sure. I imagine it might allow for you to reuse some assets but at the same time I assume making some ungodly large image to match this concept would be a pain lol. Let me know what you think!

Nigel Smith

Love your work, but I do have two pain points: 1. Searching for stuff I haven't already downloaded is a real pain. Just the ability to sort it by release date would be a huge quality of life improvement! 2. I find that most of these maps are good for one-off uses - there's very little here that I take and incorporate into my campaigns permanently. A large part of this, I think, is that you're always going for novelty over utility in the maps... I may set a fight in my campaign on a random body-part of a titan once every campaign (if that), but I have fights in taverns, cul-de-sacs, city streets, farmhouses, camp sites and mansions of the rich-and-famous every other week. I mostly have to do those myself... which leaves this service as more of a luxury than a necessity. I think this is echoing some of the sentiments above - boring settings really beautifully executed would be excellent!

MoonlightMaps

Great views, thank you Nigel. I'm definitely trying to find that balance. Those locations you mentioned are maps that I have, but I'll certainly line more of those up +I just released another camp site yesterday actually). I've been thinking of ways to utilise searching in My Air Bridge, I think the best way might be to number each map pack so new packs add to the end of the folder. If you have any maps you'd like to see soon, do let me know :)
