It's the end of the month! Literally! That means Lore-Writer's blog. This month we delve into the Fire and Ice Behemoths. Enjoy!

-------

In the world of Jrakhon, there are many sights to be seen and many wonders to behold, but perhaps the most notable of the sights and wonders are the Behemoths - giant dragons that grow much larger than other species.

The two most commonly seen Behemoths are those of both fire and ice. Jrakhon once led an army of Behemoth Ice Drakes in the Lava Lands against the Nharogki. The Ice Drakes were instrumental in saving the Fire Dragon kingdom from destruction during the Fire Purge, but since the loss of Jrakhon by the Sandslayer Queen, the alliance between Dragons and Drakes fell apart. In the aftermath, the Ice Drakes returned to their homes deep in the Winter Winds, and are rarely seen by other Dragons. Their losses were great that day, having lost many mature adults. Adult Behemoths are very rare, they mature slowly and often struggle finding mates. Losing one Behemoth alone is devastating to the species, but losing several can take the species hundreds of years to recover from. Fighting other species' wars proved to be too costly for the devoted Ice Drakes, and returned again to their homes in the ice caverns.

The Fire Behemoths on the other hand have never been known to socialize with other species. They are just as hostile if not more so than the Nharogki, but tend to stay within their own borders in the volcanic regions of the lava lands tending to their queen and aggressively defending their territory. The Fire Behemoths were cast out of the kingdom of Jrakhon in the First Age, even though they are larger and more powerful than normal dragons, they fled being their numbers are few and were not able to withstand Jrakhon's armies. They are said to still dwell in the volcanic regions, led by their queen Zemohra, though few other species venture into their territory as they would most certainly become the queens next meal. As no male Fire Behemoths have been seen for centuries, their species is on the decline and all but doomed to extinction, this has made the Fire Behemoths all the more dangerous to outsiders.

The Ice Behemoths share the same problem as the Fire Behemoths, all but slightly different. While Fire Behemoth offspring are almost always Female, Ice Behemoth offspring are almost always male. A few females exist in the Ice Behemoth kingdoms including Queen Sequoia, wife of King Ikioh, and their only daughter. Their strong warriors would protect their queen and the queen's daughter at any cost, as she is the mother of their species and they both the keys to their species' very existence. Their homes are well defended, should any threat brave the deep cold of the Winter Winds, they would have to fight their way through the giant ice caverns, home of the Behemoth Ice Drakes. But no known threat exists, howbeit, there are rumors that the Ice Wyverns would seek revenge on Vhrelhyn's behalf, but that does not concern Ikioh as much as the whispers he has heard of glaciers attacking and killing young Ice Drakes. Could it be that there are other Nharogki, not made of fire, but of ice? Perhaps Ikioh will need to call in a favor of the Fire Dragons one day as they once called on him.

 Only time will tell.
