Lore Writer's Blog: Micro Feathered Dragons (Patreon)
Content
In this month's lore writer's blog we'll be talking about the Micro Feathered Dragons, the official species name is still being debated, but it will be small and have feathers and it is a dragon!
The Micro hails from the Forgotten Forests, it loves the trees, especially the Redwoods where it makes its nests. The Micro is able to attach to Redwood tree trunks, sit on certain branches, and make nests in the Redwood trees.
It's element is acid, it does not spit on other dragons like the Acid Spitter, but throws up acidic saliva and bile onto egg shells which then begin to dissolve the shell so it can feast on the contents. This process takes a little time which is why the Micro rarely feeds on the eggs in the nests of others but will often grab the eggs with its prehensile tail and fly them to a safer location such as large tree limbs where it can feed without fear of becoming food itself.
The Micro is 100% insulated from acid, and often coats its body in its saliva through preening to provide protection from other non-acidic elements.
Micros come in a variety of colors, making them one of the most beautiful of all dragons, albeit one of the smallest. Being a class 1 dragon means that every predator in the world is a threat to their survival, they do not provide much food to adult dragons but are often hunted by juveniles and even hatchlings of some species... that is, if they can catch one. The Micro is a quiet and agile flier, with very few species able to catch them before they can get away.
Some non-predatory species such as the Nurse dragons actually welcome Micro's to their nesting sites. They have learned that nesting mothers are able to drop eggs more often when Micros are in the area. In return for this fertility perk, the nurse dragons are more than happy to allow the Micro's to clean up unwanted eggs left behind in abandoned nests.
There are other species that have attempted to persuade the micro's to aid their nesting and population efforts, but far too many micro's have become food by these carnivorous friends, making the Micros very untrusting of non-herbivorous dragons.
That's all for this months lore writers blog. Let us know your species name ideas for the Micro Feathered Dragon and we might just use them.
