Lore-Writer's Blog: Singe Crest Wyverns (Patreon)
Content
It's time for another lore-writer's blog. I meant to get this out yesterday but got distracted. So without further ado, I'd like to introduce you all to the Singe Crest.
---
Hailing from the tropical islands of Jrakhon (coming in our aquatic world expansion), the Singe Crest is an invasive species of the mainlands found anywhere there is water, or more specifically, anywhere there are fish. Due to their tolerance of both temperate and warm climates, they adapt very well to the lakes of the Forgotten Forests and the oases of the Desert Dunes where many have made their homes. The Singe Crest is one of the smaller dragons, categorized as a Class 3, and not adept at fighting larger or even similar sized dragons. But what they lack in combat prowess they make up for in their great speed and agility. Though not great at fighting, they are, however, excellent at hunting fish and other aquatic creatures in the lakes, oases, and the oceans of Jrakhon using their large grasping talons, excellent eyesight, and great speed and agility. Once they see fish near the surface of water, they often dive and snatch them from the surface and sometimes plunge themselves into the water to catch deeper fish before flying off with their meal.
Singe Crest are often seen in mated pairs flying high in the sky over lakes and oceans searching for food, but can also be found on the banks of lakes and rivers enjoying a fresh meal. They prefer to nest in the sides of tall cliffs, far from the reach of Drakes and hidden from other predators. If wounded, the empathic Singe Crest releases special pheromones which cause the brain to release chemicals that cause hyper-active somatic cell division when resting which increases healing and regeneration to not only themselves, but any dragon that is close enough to inhale these pheromones. If bleeding, the Singe Crest will fire it's focused cauterizing flame to stop the bleeds which it does with pinpoint precision. Singe Crests are often seen tending to the wounds of their mates and even other wounded Crests. Some have even been seen tending to the wounds of other species.
While clumsy on the ground, the Singe Crest flies with incredible speed and agility. Being one of the fastest dragons in the skies, they have little to fear from predators. Their greatest vulnerability comes from ambushes from Drakes and other predators lurking close to the waters where they hunt, or in being hunted while nesting in the cliffs, which is why they prefer small cliff-side crevices that predators cannot enter.
Due to their benefits, most species welcome the Singe Crests in their territories and tend to leave them alone and even invite them to their thunders. Jrakhon is a dangerous world, survival is part of life and death, and in this world, the Singe Crest has the tools to save lives, coupled with their tremendous speed, makes them one of the least-predated species in all of Jrakhon and every hunter and prey's favorite companion.
