Lore Writer's Blog: Ambient Wildlife (Patreon)
Content
Greetings Patreons,
This months Lore-Writer's Blog will focus on Ambient Wildlife that will be scattered throughout the world of Jrakhon.
Whiskered Paddletail: These fish are found in fresh water ponds and lakes all over the world of Jrakhon. They primarily feed on insects, worms, and other small fish and are a favorite food source for Swamp Snappers and several dragon species.
Thornback Crawler: This little creature prefers to feed on tiny insects found in salt flats of the Lava Lands. Thornbacks are skittish and will run from any perceived threats. Their blood is toxic to most dragon species due to the high levels of toxins from consuming venomous insects, which is their primary diet.
Spined Scrab: This little creature prefers to feed on small crustaceans and amphibians that live in shallow rivers and streams. Spined Scrabs will size up predators, being not as fast as a Thornback they will often put up a good fight if they think they have a chance, but if the predator is large, they will try to hide.
Swamp Snapper: This medium sized predator can be found lurking in any size body of water that contains fish, which is it's primary diet. They particularly love swamps, but are also found in deep lakes. Swamp Snappers are opportunistic and aggressive, feeding on anything they can find, alive or dead. They have no problem attacking and drowning dragons that stop by their water source for a drink.
Dune Weaver: Also known as "Sand Cleaners," these slow and silent creatures slither across the sand dunes feeding on any organic matter it can find, including small reptiles, insects, decaying vegetation and even the occasional carcass. Their bony armor defense makes them an undesirable and difficult food source for most species who come across them. They are slow and timid creatures that "ball up" when threatened to protect their soft underbellies. They can go for long periods without water which is stored inside their bony plates which also allow them to tolerate high temperatures by keeping them cool and insulated inside.
Cave Cutter: These large crustaceans inhabit the frozen ice caves of the winter winds, they are known for cutting large caverns inside the frozen ice caves where they tunnel to feed on tree roots and hibernating insects and amphibians. Cave Cutters can be very aggressive when threatened or when their territory is invaded.
(To be continued)
This is a look at some of the creatures inhabiting the world of Jrakhon. We'll talk about the others in a later lore blog.
