I have been playing shamisen for only about 4 weeks and it is also my first string (and percussion) instrument, but I would like to begin learning Rokudan by the end of the year after learning all the songs and skills in the lessons leading up to it to get really comfortable.

My shamisen will arrive in a few weeks. It's my first time playing, so my goals for this year are to build up good techniques and get in the habit of practicing often. I will also be going to Japan this year and hope to do at least one thing related to shamisen like attending a lesson in person, going to a concert, or visiting a shamisen shop!

I got into the habit of keeping a shamisen progress journal during the lockdown. I’ve continued keeping the journal. During 2024 I began making video clips to monitor my progress and figure out where improvement is needed in 2025. I'm also focused on mastering the complete Rokudan, Nambu Tawaratsumi, Kyokubiki, and keeping up with the new lesson plans (unfortunately work gets in the way of practicing). Sometime later this year taking my first trip to Japan hear shamisen music played live for the first time, visit the shop that built my shamisen, and hopefully meet Ki&Ki.

遅くなりましたが明けましておめでとうございます。今年は春にカナダのモントリオールに引っ越す予定で、引っ越したら当分日本に戻りません。三味線を練習したり、演奏を聞いたりする時間を確保できるよう、新しい生活を立ち上げることが1番の目標です。 技術的には、曲の中でユリを入れたいとか、ねじめ、ねずみをマスターしたいとか、色々ありますが、ぜひ、唄をしっかり聞きながら伴奏できるようになりたい！と思っています。今年もよろしくお願いいたします。
