This video covers the details about the very important nail care, and more importantly… the  Itomichi (groove in the nail, to hold a string).

When you move your left hand on the 3rd string with your index finger, you hold the string with your fingernail. The groove that is made to the nail to make it easier for the string to fit and produce a more clear sound is called “Itomichi”. You will also learn how to make Itomichi on your nails. Let’s try to make one on your nail to upgrade your level of Shamisen play!

三の糸を人差し指で移動する時に、爪で糸を押さえています。その際、爪に糸がはまりやすいように付ける溝を「糸道」といいます。糸道とは何かを動画を見ながら学びましょう。糸道の付け方も実践していますので、ぜひ糸道を付けてワンランク上の三味線が弾けるようにお稽古してみましょう。
