How to Build Kyokubiki -- 曲弾きの作り方 (Patreon)

Everyone, are you enjoying your Kyokubiki practice? As you are becoming more familiar with Kyokubiki, we would like to cover how to build Kyokubiki. Let's start by having the phrases memorized from your lessons and eventually be able to create your own composition.
Checkpoint 1: "Expand Your Repertoire"Even if you are creating your own original Kyokubiki, not every phrase has to be different from others. Composing music in Kyokubiki is like solving a puzzle of usable phrases, so the more pieces of fine phrases you know, the broader your composition possibilities become. Please try to copy phrases from various performers' Kyokubiki, arrange them into your own Kyokubiki, and that will become a valuable learning experience!
Checkpoint 2: "Maintain a Classic Flow"In Kyokubiki, there is a concept of a "good flow." Understanding what constitutes a good flow may take time and experience, so we recommend starting by assembling your compositions in the order introduced in Learn Shamisen lessons. Of course, you can rearrange the order to create a more impressive composition, and it can become your unique style. Always consider "What makes a good flow?" while creating your compositions.
Checkpoint 3: "Discover Your Individuality"Through practicing various phrases, you'll discover your areas of expertise. For example, you may want to emphasize the low notes, showcase intricate phrases, or play the melodious phrases beautifully. Creating highlights within your own compositions, which last for about 2-3 minutes, adds individuality. When your strengths shine within the framework of a classic flow, it leaves a good impression on the audiences.
Checkpoint 4: "Never Forget that Kyokubiki was developed from the prelude of Tsugaru Jogara Bushi"When creating your own Kyokubiki, it is essential to embody the essence of Tsugaru Jongara Bushi. Gaining a deeper understanding of Tsugaru Jongara Bushi in its vocal form, along with instrumental Kyokubiki, is highly beneficial for improving your skills in playing Kyokubiki. Listen to various people's songs and Shamisen performances, and try to identify the characteristics of Jongara Bushi. Imagine as if the vocal part continues after your Kyokubiki.
Contemplating what your unique Kyokubiki will be is an eternal theme for a Shamisen player. Let’s experiment, explore various possibilities and enjoy your Kyokubiki lesson!!
