[⚠️ TW: depictions of self-harm ⚠️]

I got a baseball bat beside my bedTo fight off what inside my headTo fight off what's behind my medsI'm lonely, lost in pain

Well howdy y'all, happy Sunday LOL

So... I have a LOT of projects going that are in hard WIP territory that need more time to be finished and post-ready. I get anxious if I don't post for more than a few days, so I pulled this one from the depths of my never-posting pile at the risk of being cringe or making you sad.

Sometimes when I listen to music and sketch, I'll just freeball it with whatever image comes to mind, and on that particular day I was listening to It's Alright by Mother Mother. And that entire song is very Cooper-core to me, so I ended up pulling a literal interpretation of one of the lyrics during the worst period of Coop's life, which would have been around the events of Volume 1 of the Intern arc.

When I first sketched this, I looked at Babs and went "there's no way I'll ever post this, it'll be meme'd to hell" and, while maybe that would still happen, I find myself more at peace with all sides of my artistic personality. "I am cringe but I am free" and all that lol

So hey, here's some unfiltered darker art from me. Thanks as always for your patience while I work on stuff, and more to come soon ❤️

Nah it's great to experience a variety of vibes from media. I love sad songs and movies for the same reason I like happy ones, it's good to feel feelings. The ability to evoke those emotions is a trait of good art!

Ich hoffe die Krise geht vorbei

I don't think it's cringe at all personally.

Boris

Movies and songs that make you sad are a drain. Depressive people frequently gravitate toward this sort of stuff because it feeds feelings that are familiar. It's not good for you and steals energy from the things that being you joy. Stay positive.

Picture perfectly describes how I feel

Smiths of Light and Frye

As someone who was in that type of mood in the past, I absolutely love this sketch. Would love to have a poster of it with the lyric as a caption!

I don’t agree with Boris here, I think you need to engage with sadness and darkness sometimes as it can help you work through those things in yourself, or at least see you aren’t alone in those feelings. This is beautiful and tragic Jack, thank you. Do you feel this actually happened with Coop, or is it more a metaphor? I know it got better eventually, but I hope soon after this moment he was able to find some comfort with someone he cares about.

Nah, I feel this one. I'm in a pretty good place now, but I've been there. I appreciate this, raw and straight to the point. I'm glad you decided to post it

This is really good jackaloo, last year was my year, hell, depression, wanting to take myself out….but it’s like many say, you gotta hit rock bottom and put your shovel down if you wanna get out of the hole. To everyone here, keep your hopes up high, stay strong, the world is a bitch, but one day you’ll make it your bitch ❤️☮️💪🏼

This NOT cringe. Uncomfortable? Absolutely. But not cringe. I've never physically harmed myself, but there was a time in my life when I thought about it a lot. Seeing Cooper like this makes me think about what my current self would say to my past self during that time in my life, and it makes me feel grateful that I had support systems to keep things from escalating. Not everyone is that lucky. It's thought provoking and that alone makes this worthy of being seen.

Babs

I'm so glad ya posted this! <3

artistically, i love this piece. the black and white looks really good. i also immediately picked up on the song as soon as i saw the title.

This scene basically what Cooper would do. I can totally see this scene in an AU side comic "The Intern: What If...Cooper never got evicted?" This scene makes us realize that in the main comic...it's Andy. Andy keeps Cooper so distracted with all the gay love and sex that Cooper doesn't have the mindset to cut himself or do any self-harm like he did in this image.

Datdude1999

Wow, that’s actually pretty interesting when you put it like that, would coooer go that far? I know in volume 3 he mentioned to River saying how Andy is the only reason he quote on quote: kept from putting a bullet in his head. Makes you think

Cregon

Yeah, I guess we can say that being evicted from his apartment and staying with Andy in Volume 2 was the best thing that's ever happened to Cooper.

I think you don't need to feel anxious about posting such artworks, art can express a lot of things, be they positive or negative. Some people may think that life always needs to be sunshine and rainbows, but it never is, it's a bit of everything, also bad times and such artworks can be a reminder, venting and a help to understand and reflect such feelings. Not to mention it shows a whole different side of your artistic capabilities, it's good you posted it in my opinion and maybe rouse some discussions about this topic with it. I personally like the constrast in Cooper's character, he's strong in body and attitude, but has a quite frail and confused mentality sometimes. It adds to his character and his development and this artwork shows that quite well. You did a good job with this artwork! Never hold back your creations, every piece of art you create is a piece of yourself, after all. And as much as I love seeing horny work of Jack and Cooper and the others, as much do I like seeing artworks reflecting other sides of you and your characters.

I find myself speechless because of the emotional turmoil in seeing a beloved character in such a mental distress. But I basically wanted to say what your post said, and add: the character art of an artist summons emotions and feelings, that are linked to the character being portrayed in the art; and a whole character is made of bad feelings and moments of darkness too. I'm glad Jackaloo showed this drawing. .... I want to jump at Cooper, pin him down on the bed, toss that baseball bat off the window and shake him until he sees me. o_o

MasterDraco

That is very well said, I agree. That's the power of art, playing with, rousing and increasing our feelings and emotions, especially when it comes to a character we love and care for. Bad feelings and times shape a character just as much as the good ones do, like with people in general. And I feel the same with Cooper. He acts like the "big bad wolf", but needs care and love just like everybody else, even if he doesn't like to admit it.
