Hi everyone! I hope you have a peaceful, lovely end of the year. I wanted to run something by you guys for what to expect next on here. First, some context:

I’ve been having a slow-motion epiphany over the last few weeks while trying to come off my breakdown (see this post for those who missed it). At the day job, I do art for my company. On the furry side, I do commissions and comics that have a set story/direction that I’m committed to. All these projects have something in common, but I couldn’t quite figure out how it was related to my struggles to feel better. Then I had a moment of clarity.

I’m not… doing any personal art! There’s just no room!

I never draw my sona anymore, make new characters, and have shelved several ideas/stories. What I once thought of as no big deal and a hindrance to my productivity anyway, I’m starting to consider the absence of creativity unrelated to how I make money as detrimental to my well-being. Thus, leaking into my professional work too. All my work takes longer than normal because I have a harder time with it, which means that my Patreon content and quantity of output suffer.

It isn’t the most comfortable thing to express because I feel like I’m being ungrateful for my career that is largely creative work. Work is still work though, and I’m bound by rules and the will of others in every corner. I think for me to get back to a healthy relationship with everything I make, I NEED to make room for open creativity, which means changing some of my Patreon content.

I want to indefinitely stop the character Q&A. The Q&A is a lot harder on me than it seems. Because I have to sift through all the questions, make sure I’m being accurate with character traits and background, coming up with something fresh but within canon, etc. it doesn’t have a natural flow; it has a structure. And art-wise, my life right now is nothing but structure. I know the Q&A is fun for you guys (which is why I’ve been putting off admitting this), but I am at my limit on my capacity for creative labor right now and it would be a big relief on me if I could just release it from haunting me.

In replacement, I would use this section to fill in my own personal art and new polls/games/Patron engagement. I could do little comics about my life, random new characters and stories, sketches, request polls, and more. They would still be furry-esque, so you can still expect similar content to what you came here for, just not always specifically related to the interns comics!

My theory is that… if you guys give me the leeway to pad bonus content on Patreon with open personally-driven stuff… this could potentially ignite future projects, pick up the speed in which I can get through the commission line, and grease the rusty wheels on the comics.

I love my day job, and I do not see it ending in the near future because I keep getting pulled into interesting projects that I'm proud to be a part of. I never actually redid my schedule to accommodate it in tandem with Patreon/commission content, which used to be my only focus. If I'm gonna get through this and find a new balance, I need to make some room for myself in order to keep consistency for you. I hope that's okay. It matters a LOT to me because Patreon is literally my financial stability. The day job would not be able to sustain me alone so if pitted against Patreon, Patreon would win with zero hesitation. (many artist get paid beans irl). But I WANT to pull off both if I can...

So, if you guys are cool with it... starting up from here, Patreon will consist of Main Comic, Side Comic, Commissions, and personal content. I'll do my best to keep it heartfelt, entertaining, and spicy for you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read, I hope you have a nice weekend and more to come soon! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment.

glad to hear this, we all support you ;)

Milo Smith

I absolutely love the sounds of you injecting your personal art back into the feed! I support it 100% and would love to see more of your sona and some slice of life fun things too💜 do you think you’ll do pin-ups anymore or do you feel like those don’t fit into the new format?

Tuclas

Take all the time you need buddy! ❤️

KyonFoX

I am glad to hear that, Jack. We support you a lot :)

Insomni-act

I for one would love to see more of your Sona and other OC's you come up with. You know what they say, the more the merrier.

DJ Wolf

Absolutely do personal content! Id love to see your own ideas! Remember were all supporting you and were happy to do what we can!

Jackaloo

I’ll put them into the mix! They may not happen every month, but I’ll certainly include them when the inspiration strikes :3

Milo Smith

That’s all I can ask for! I hope this helps you take care of yourself and your own well being long term 💜

Insomni-act

This also explains what happened to that other series you showed glimpses of a few years ago. I think about it every now and then but all I remember is some edgy guy and a graveyard.

ABox OfDeth

I would 10,000% rather you be happy and doing art you truly enjoy (and somewhat paying you to do this) in exchange for you getting back to enjoying art again, than watch you suffer. Please do what you need to do

Jonathan Santana

I think your personal art is a great idea. We love your sona and keep this in mind. The ones that been here for the long run although we love your content, we also want to support you in whatever is comfy for you. ❤

Damie♥

Please do this! I'm happy with whatever you want to make.

OllieOtty

I’m absolutely on board with this! Can’t wait to see what you have up your sleeves

sunkawakan

Why is it that so many artists feel that they have to produce what they FEEL their subscribers want? I support you because I enjoy your art. Not because you produce some particular thing I want. Yeah, I love the 'Interns' series, and look forward to it. But, you know, I also like your commissions and your personal art that has nothing to do with 'Interns'. Do I like it all? Of course not. But I like your artistic STYLE, and that is what I support. PLEASE, do what you feel you should do. I wish all artists would relax about what they BELIEVE their patrons want

Arkuden

100% on board! I actually subscribe to patreons to see artists personal work! That's where all the fun watching artists comes from!

Webb

This sounds great – do what's best for your quality of life! It sounds like fun and I'm totally down for personal art. 🙏

larkin aaron

Of Course. I came on here to support you as a artist with freedom and liberty. Whatever decision you think is best to make the art we both love go for it. It will be interesting in the future to your more of your personal creatively.

Jackaloo

I still wanna do stuff for that 😭 Timbercreek

Insomni-act

Ah I'm really looking forward to that. It really grabbed my attention.

Jackaloo

The honest answer to that first question is that every now and then Patrons message me threatening to pull their support if I pair certain characters together or do this/that etc. It's a jarring reminder that to some degree, yes, I do have to consider pleasing as many as possible to keep up support. Thank you for being around with expectations of imperfection, it really takes a lot of pressure off!

Ryan Thompson

You are an amazing artest and your work is hot, fun, a amazing. Whatever you have to do to be the best you ... I think you should do it.

Ezra Ark

I'm here to see your artwork. Whatever you create I'll appreciate :)

sunkawakan

I'm really sorry people feel they have the right to do that. I see being a 'Patreon' akin to the renaissance idea of patron, where we, collectively, give an artist an income that allows the artist to create without concern of having to make rent or eat. This may be idealized but it is why I support artists. For people to use this as a form of blackmail is unconscionable. As I said, I am not in love with ALL you produce, buit I support your right to produce WHAT YOU FEEL APPROPRIATE. I condemn those who feel they have the right to dictate your creativity, and hope they read this response.

sunkawakan

By the way, I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

Greenbeans

Good luck to you! I love seeing personal work and learning about the artist because it often helps me understand other things about their art/writing (traits of the artist contributes to characters, life events that shape your world view, why you chose to take a concept in a particular direction, etc). Happy to see what you choose to share with us.

Stark

I signed up because I love your work and I feel my tail wag whenever I see an update from ya. Do good for you and I'm sure plenty of us will be thrilled! We're here for you.

Greenbeans

Replying to Jackaloo's response: wow, how incredibly shitty and entitled. This is the only fandom (admittedly I am not in too many) that I see people so emboldened as to actually contact the artist about how the artist depicts their own characters, pricing of artwork, rate of output, etc. Sorry you're dealing with that.

Lucian Greywolf

Yes Jack! Shake it up and do what flows for you. I'd love to see more personal art and takes from daily life. We are your audience but the show belongs to you my friend. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and wish you nothing but the best from here on out. Keep on rocking 😎

James Marquardt

a Restitutionalism. :The act of putting One's soul, back into their body. But in this day&age. It is said, mearly that we need a Rest. Im glad you found a lead on how to put your soul back in.. Also. If you happen to pick up an episode of the Legends of Tomorrow. Where John Constantine, performs just such an act on Capt. Sarah Lance. You wont be disappointed.^^

Lurkybot3k

Pretty sure the majority of us won't be leaving because of your decision. We love your works, even if Q&A has to go with no promise of return. Find the balance that works for you because what's best for you HAS to matter the most. Your honesty and trust in us with your feelings is humbling. We'd put you at the center of a group hug and tell you it's alright if it were possible. We hear you, Mr. Aloo. Hear us now because we've said it before. Play it back on repeat if you have to: WE NEED YOU TO DO WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU!

David Ihnen

I commission a little bit to help you with you making art. That's no particular art. Just art. Personal art? Actually, I REALLY like personal art from artists whose main output is so professional. Its so dramatically different and artistic it makes me happy.

TheAngelicBard

I am all for more personal work and side comics :3!! Heck yes my dude

Bullstorm

Take care of yourself and do what you love!! ♥♥

Something Cat

Take some time do some personal art. But most important get dem belly rubs and snoot boops. Also nuggies, lots of nuggies.

Air

Dewit

Leafside

i think is a great idea, giving you time to unwind and enjoy doing something for yourself to enjoy

Marcwolf

My Friend.. because I think of you as such. My contribution via Patreon is to support YOU, doing the things you love. Not to dictate what you do. Even if you decided to do The Intern in black and white I would be happy. Please do what you enjoy doing and let us be with you on that journey. Sincerely.. Marcwolf

DeegenPDX

My dude, you do you... the joy you bring to life for yourself will reflect in your art, and then we get to experience your joy with you... nothing would make me happier!

MasterDraco

I support those changes 100%, plus it's very interesting to see your own ideas as well. So the viewers have things to look forward to they don't expect. You are no machine to produce art, you are an individual and individuals need to express themselves without restrictions. So you make a good decision with that. The Q&A is nice, but I understand it's not easy to maintain. Doing YCHs from time to time is also a good idea wo create your own ideas and use your own characters. You could even use Jack for them. I wouldn't mind seeing more art of your handsome dingoat, for sure. ;) In any case, I hope everything will work out well for you and I will definitely continue to support you.

Ropufu

Can't wait for the changes to come about. I've always loved the personal stuff you post... the art is absolutely adorable and moving. Hold on, we're here for you :^)

GreenDreamer

I'll admit, I am a little disappointed that the Q&A isn't coming back, as that always a little fun slice of life for the characters. But you know what, you're absolutely right! I almost NEVER see anything that was just for YOU. I had ZERO idea what your fursona even looked like for at least two years! It makes total sense, deciding a change like this. We're so focused on the day-to-day lives of the creations, we lose sight of the day-to-day lives of THE CREATOR. So, I'm thrilled to hear about this chance, as not only would it be a great way to express yourself and change your pace, but even better opportunity for me to get to know you; as I don't know a damn thing about you, and that's sad!! I hope this will be a great window of opportunity, one that shines both ways.

Verager

You have a very cute sona, so please show him off more! And I love it when artists fuck around in general. I see this as an absolute win

Thingymabob

Always appreciate the level of honesty you always show Jack. While It's not something I'd have thought of off the top of my head. That makes total sense. So I'm whole heartedly behind the change if it's a positive step for you.

Afadi Chionesu

I like the idea, Jack. I would love to see some personal work. :)

Serg

Go for it, I don't know about everyone. But I wholeheartedly encourage your need for posting personal content in whatever capacity. I may not personally interact with it or look through it all the time. But that doesn't mean I and many others won't look at it and show an interest in it. It simply may not be as popular. Or hell, it could even garner enough attention for its own side project or investment. The point is, I can't imagine you giving life to your personal projects to be a bad thing unless you completely neglect your main focus or some such nonsense. Either way, you do you and have fun. Nobody wants boring stale content, variety is the spice of life.
