Thanks for your patience! This page was actually really fun and interesting to sketch since it was uncharted territory thus far ^^

(tbh this page scared me to post LOL so thank you in advance for being chill and letting me try different "combos" so to speak. Remember I try to make this comic about 50/50 story/porn)

Jeez I didn't realize how much people dislike the River and Coop ship. I think its fine and I figured this was gonna happen. The tension between those two is thicc as hell. Also if Andy can sleep around with Emery, I think that Coop can sleep around with River and whoever else he wants. I'm pretty sure Andy and Coop are endgame so I'm not to worried about this. Well, Cooper just fucked everything up. The person that Andy is the most jealous of, and that Cooper didn’t even tell he was doing this job with them. Maybe some people like them, but River is easily my least favorite character in the story. They seem to exclusively exist just to cause this drama moment right here. Kind of undid any growth on Cooper’s part for me, ngl.

The key difference is that Andy told Cooper about what he was doing. Their a whole big thing was, let’s just be honest with each other. Not only did Cooper not tell him what his job was, now he’s fooling around with the person that Andy is the most jealous of. Cooper is absolutely 100% in the wrong in the situation.

They've been pretty instrumental in setting Cooper straight (lol) in terms of confronting his sexuality. River's called Cooper out numerous times on his internalized homophobia and checked him several times about his tough guy front. They have also been very patient (giving Cooper the time of day after being called a slur) and supportive (the book, helping him with the dancing, providing advice, offering to listen to Cooper vent) of Cooper while he figures things out.

Be interesting to see where this goes. There has obviously been an undercurrent of attraction here between the two of them. It could just let them get it out of their system so the can continue to be friends, or it could lead tto more. But - It had to happen at some time or other. :)

Yes, and as I said, they seem to exist only to be this exact character moment for Cooper. Literally exactly the right thing for him, which feels very unrealistic. And, as I said, coming into the plot in this way 2/3 of the way through the story. The way Andy is written also seemingly changes whenever it’s involving River to make them look the best. I guess I just totally disagree about the whole making him more himself when River’s whole thing Cooper likes is their femininity. Especially when this comes off almost as like emotional revenge against Andy by Cooper.

Not really - once they both get the initial 'fuck' out of their system they can continue as friends, or it could lead to more. They are both sexual adults in a very sexualised industry. Hormones and tensions are sure to be there.

Emery is more of a father figure. Cooper and River seem to have some genuine romantic connection. I really don't feel like Cooper ever had real feelings for Andy, besides sexual. Sadly, I think Andy knows that, which is why he's so jealous of River. He sees a spark that he hasn't had with Cooper. It sucks, because I think we all want Andy and Cooper to work, but really Cooper has been nothing but harmful towards Andy.

Not surprised this is happening right now. There's been sexual tension between these two since Coop's birthday (if not earlier). Coop and Andy also agreed to be able to see other people in an open relationship type status. Heck, they haven't even HAD a date yet. Andy may feel some jealousy depending on how far this goes, but Coop's already been in that boat with Waldren. I have my concerns/thoughts about how this may play out, but I'm in it for the long haul. If anything, the real issue is STILL Coop not telling Andy what his job currently entails. Do your thing, Mr. Aloo! <3

The whole point is Cooper keeping River and his job involving them a secret. Which is something people keep ignoring or trying to distract from by bringing up Waldren, who Cooper was deliberately told by Andy he was doing a FWB thing with. Emotionally he wants to be with Cooper but now Cooper seems emotionally connecting with River. Which, again, is totally fine if Andy had ever been told this at any point.

Cooper knows about Waldren. He had suspicions but Andy deliberately told him. That is not the case with Cooper and River. That's the key difference.

In an earlier scene in the bar from Volume 1 (I think?), it's all but stated by Cooper using the words that he's in love with Andy. But that was also before River showed up in the story being exactly the character specifically created for Cooper, which is why they fall so flat for some of us.

If River didn't seem like such a mary sue introduced exactly to cause this drama I think they'd be such a better character. But they're not. And a lot of us got invested in the story about Cooper and Andy and this is just not it. If the next month of posts are just going to be a sex scene with them I'll probably just dip out until later.

River first appeared the very beginning of Vol 2/pg 69 and we're 238 pages in, so they've been around since just under the first third of the pages we have so far. They have their own story (which I suspect Jackaloo has wanted to expand upon given the fact that they've seemingly always existed--River's silhouette has been a tier for years, polls where River-centric stories are offered, etc. Despite the fact that, point blank, Jack has had people drop or angrily threaten to drop their subs because they don't like how he's writing his story and probably cost River a lot of their exposition (? I'm sure there's a better term to describe this) in the story, I still feel like they're a pretty well-rounded character). I guess I don't understand what exactly people referring to when they say River is unrealistic. How would you have written River to make them more believable?

I feel like Cooper cares about him as a friend (and as much as Cooper has matured and become a more likeable person over the last chapter, it's still not saying much) and finds him sexually attractive, but that doesn't necessarily make them a healthy fit, romantically. Andy has always been more into Cooper than vice-versa.

Okay then you can't see how narratively unsatisfying that is for the audience if 2/3rds through a story it's just, 'Oh the whole build up was just untrue, ectectect?" People can like River all they want but there's this weird idea that people who find them narratively unsatisfying are not allowed to dislike them. Also I don't think your last sentence is true whatsoever, there have been so many hints to the contrary

Give River some actual flaws. We have two moments where it seems like somebody should have pointed out that a.) River flatout lied to Cooper's face and told him they didn't tell anyone they overheard him and andy fooling around at the party. Nothing comes of this. And then b.) River just stringing along the son of the store owner for free stuff by doing sexual things with him is played off as like a silly or cute goof when it's pretty gross. And it's not even just that Cooper or whomever else doesn't call them out in the story, it's that the story itself doesn't REALLY frame either of those two things as something bad. It's meant to just be like, "Oh River. hahaha. What a card." But every single thing Andy does seemingly gets scrutinized to the moon and back by both the story and commenters. River seems perfectly written to be exactly the thing for Cooper which feels really unsatisfying from a storytelling standpoint, at least for me. I'm happy other people like them. They're just not why I started following the story, because Andy and Cooper feel like actual people and River's just a plot device.

No, I just don't think Jackaloo's writing follows a clean, predictable Disney-like formula where the characters that grew up together are fated to marry and live happily ever after. The complicated, messy characters are what make this comic interesting. I feel like people just want Cooper and Andy to fall in love, link, and be done with it. And they might very well be endgame, but I'm just a little surprised at how adults are reacting to a story that isn't straightforward and boring. People are absolutely allowed to dislike River. I just find it interesting that they seem to be the only character that gets accused of being a 'mary-sue' or poorly-written.

You missed when River revealed that their motivation to help Cooper wasn't wholly altruistic. Are you saying somebody in the story should have pointed it out (it doesn't seem like much time has passed from those events; there's still plenty of time for things to come back and bite River in the ass) or the audience should have said something? Because between here and FA people have pointed oit their shortcomings out (along with every other character. The criticisms for Andy, I've noticed, get a bizarre response from a handful of people as though everyone is being hateful towards him).

I have a pretty interesting suggestion for you... regarding an artistic choice. ^_^ You know, the little white reflection (white dot) in the character's eyes looks way more vivid and dynamic if it's not a simple, perfectly round (normal brush) dot. For example, it looks much, much better in panel 4... this is by far the most believable reflection. And yeah... it's a comic but that's no excuse! :-) I figured in my own drawings that they eyes are super important and I just wanted to share my opinion on this reflection detail.

Always funny to see all the negativity and near hatred for a Coop & River ship. So hung up on Coop & Andy that nothing will get in the way. Has no one here ever been with someone and you were absolutely convinced this was it, they were the one you wanted to spend your life with. That you'd do anything for them not realizing how bad they are for you, how toxic the relationship was. Only realizing it, maybe many years, down the road. And maybe, just maybe, the right person for you, someone who would have made you extremely happy, was right there all along. Personally I think Coop & River compliment each other better then Coop & Andy do.

I wish they would commit to each other OR don't have anything official and be free to explore with others... This might sound a little strange but what if there's a possibility that Coop doesn't actually love Andy that way, or rather never did. What if Coop just liked the thought of Andy because he knew Andy was gay. Like Coop pretty much saw Andy as a way for him to let out that repressed part of him bit by bit and confused himself into thinking it was love. I feel like him being completely unphased that Andy is banging Emery is a hint to that. (I could go a little deeper into this but I feel like that's long enough.) I wouldn't quite say that he loves River yet, but he is so much more open with River and acts so much different with Riv than he does with Andy.
