OK, what is that hunk of fluff doing hanging from my hat.   Well, it manages to hang on for the whole episode.  Enjoy this behind the scenes prep!

I am bummed I can access live stream. Says it's private.

Brigit Zent

This is such fun! Thank you! Really great seeing behind the scenes!

Julie Esper

Thanks Jon! Great info as always!

Matthew H

This was fantastic! I was wondering how a 4lb cake could cook in 15 minutes, but then you rolled it out. These look good! The ginger overpowered the nutmeg though sounds like, so maybe a whole nutmeg is to be used?

Matthew H

Also yes a live cook would be fantastic! Even if it took 3 hours, Id sit through the entire thing!

Lisa Fittinghoff

The German Kitchen set is wonderful. Thank you for going through the prep for a cooking video. It's helpful to see how you work out what isn't specified in the recipe. I'm ready to make this recipe (as soon as I replace my out-of-date ginger).

Brigit Zent

and such a long, in depth one! So good!

john crews

Tks...This is awesome.....and I tk a cooking segment would make a great live!!!

Vicki Stevens

Thank you so much for allowing us to see how you prep for a cooking video and how you work through a recipe for the test run. So very interesting. All the research you put into everything you do is so very much appreciated.

RG de Stolfe

This was great! I like cooking anyway, I’ve been experimenting with some turn of the century recipes myself doing much of the same type of reasoning and adjusting of the recipes. I keep thinking with some of these cooking episodes that I hope you have a sink with running water in the set!

Craig Beaty

Thanks for taking us "Back Stage" with you! Seeing the kitchen as a set was such a cool peek behind the curtain. I loved watching you work through the creative process. I agree the a live stream cooking episode would be so much fun!

Wesley Heidel

Thanks it was really great seeing behind the scenes, and I appreciate all the work you put into the videos.

Spencer Kleyweg

Thank you Jon for taking us behind the scenes, I really enjoyed this video and I hope you continue to do these longer form, casual videos with us!

Richard Kimberly

I really enjoyed this video. Please do more like this.

Leigh McGill

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing you play with the recipe to make it right/better. I love the longer videos. Thanks for sharing

Vusmeree

I love long form/video essay type content! If it isn’t too much of a burden, I would love to see more!

Terry Iseli

This is great! It is very interesting to see how you do the background work to prep for a cooking video. Thanks for sharing it and I love seeing the German kitchen "set"!

Lane Andress

I loved this behind the scenes video! I can't wait to try this recipe!

Catherine Bradley

"...small mess" 🤣 Oh I can definitely relate to that. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us what goes into your videos. All the hard work is really appreciated!

Squatch79

Loved this! Thanks for letting us in.

Laurie A Kretschman

Stop eating the dough! xD This looks delicious though. Great video! Can't wait for the episode!

Winfield E. Johnson

I can't believe you didn't put the full nutmeg in....Lol, maybe on the full production version.

Noelani Nomiyama

Interesting to see what goes into making a cooking video thanks Townsend!

Mary Guiso

Watching you kneading the dough... kinda reminds me of how the "Grannies" bring together dough for pasta. (Channel on You Tube is called "Pasta Grannies"). This cake dough has leavening and butter in it.... but the concept seems similar. More flour than liquid brought together with kneading thing. The butter fat would break up the gluten where in pasta it is only eggs to activate the gluten. As for flavor.... I don't recall any salt ???? I may have missed that. And did they use spices as liberally back then? It may have been enough ginger and nutmeg for their tastes at that time. Good luck messing with the recipe.

Inês Santos

I've felt like i was actually in that kitchen crossing fingers for a good result. And I don't even like ginger...

Lane Andress

The regular episode was AWESOME!!!! 🔥📖🎃 Thank you for sharing with us to have the full back story! Great job guys!!!

David Kaff

Deborah Scotland

Great video - made me realize just how much work goes into the finished episode!
