Yolanda blinked. She’d walked into the training field of Cerulean to check out the locals, both the rookie crushers, the older types that liked the thrill, the Ace trainers testing out a style or set of new moves or a pokemon, or those like her.

New trainers on their Journey.

With this, only the third day of the season Yolanda knew that there were going to be a lot of people lingering. Not everyone got up and out of their hometown straight away.

One needed to win their local badge, or indeed build up a nest egg, before setting out.

She’d expected this and even accounted for it in her plans.

What she hadn’t expected was for people to pause and nudge their friends when she showed up.

“Hey! That’s her!”

“Yolanda from Pewter?”

“That’s the one! Heard she’d caused a tidal wave so big it washed out of the Cerulean Gym!”

“She’s a rock enthusiast, apparently!”

“The typing or the music?”

“Both!”

People… knew her… or something at least close to an idea of her. Instead of merely walking in and laying down some challenges, people watched her.

She’d come at the usual time she woke up, which meant that only Greta had been up as Crystal was still curled in her sheets enjoying the warmth of cuddling up to her Cyndaquil.

It was… concerning that such a rumour had spread about her so quickly.

She glanced around, suddenly reconsidering her approach to this morning. She’d come hoping to get her pokemon some experience with several battles but now… who would take her up on a fight?

An old gentleman approached her, twizzling his moustache.

“I say there young Miss? Would you happen to be interested in trying to best the second-best Rattata of last season?” he joked.

“Second best?” Yolanda blurted, unable to stop herself.

“Ah, I entered a… competition of sorts and came second,” he declared grandly. “Twas a hard-fought placing to be sure but we managed it!”

“Ah, well such a prized Rattata would be a suitable challenge for one of my pokemon! I’d be delighted!” she replied, agreeing to the fight and relaxing. You could almost always trust old folk that frequented such parks to be good people.

They were there to feel a spark and stay connected. Losses as much as victories for them could be celebrated.

The old man drew back his hand as soon as they had one of the city’s training fields to themselves. “Let’s go Rattata!” he declared as Yolanda sent Spot out.

She quickly catalogued her opponent. No odd signs of colouration, no significant size differences.

…

In fact, it looked like a normal run-of-the-mill Ratata if you discounted how shiny its fangs and coat were.

It was a particularly well cared for pokemon but… Yolanda wasn't seeing enough to impress her.

Not after she’d spent time with Mia and Silly Mouse, which… well Silly Mouse was a Raticate these days, so it probably wasn’t a fair comparison, but still.

“Flamethrower!” Yolanda barked, deciding to go hard from the start of the match.

“Dig!” countered the old gentleman.

Flame erupted from Spot’s mouth only for the Rattata to be just quick enough to escape.

“Switch it up with Agility! Random movements don’t slip into a pattern!” she ordered sinking into a state of extreme focus. Rattata would have a moment’s notice to attempt a strike which would make things harder for Dig to land, but still possible.

Spot began jerking this way and that, zig zagging and running in a circle. When nothing came, Yolanda began mentally marking areas where Rattata was most likely to be underground.

“Not there!” she called as Growlithe turned towards one patch of ground he had yet to treat.

Spot jerked back just in time as Rattata emerged with a furious snap of its teeth.

The attack grazed Spot’s leg causing him to yelp lightly before landing and dropping into a growl as their foe stepped back onto solid ground.

The older man started rubbing his moustache. “How on earth did you predict where my pokemon might have been?” he asked, bewildered.

Yolanda considered answering. It was perhaps the friendly thing to do, but at the same time she didn’t owe him anything. “I’ll tell you after I beat you! She announced with a smirk, flashing a signal for Spot to use Agility once more.

The old man twitched in surprise as Spot blurred across the field and slammed his body into his foe, causing them both to go for a tumble.

In that moment the Gentleman perked up and Yolanda just knew she’d stepped on a trap that he’d apparently laid.

“Thunder!” he intoned merrily, causing Yolanda to groan as the Rattata discharged a powerful electrical ability from point blank.

Spot was hurled back with a sharp yelp and when he hit the ground he skidded across the ground. He rose, twitching and growling, his gaze locked on his opponent but Yolanda could see that he was paralyzed.

“Items?” she asked, her eyes flicking up to the Gentleman.

He considered her for a moment before nodding his head. “Rain Dance,” he called, his lips twitching as Yolanda flicked a cheri berry at Spot who devoured it.

Blast! The old man had done the kind thing but he’d still guaranteed he came out ahead with that set up.

“Charge in for Double Kick!” Yolanda called, backing her pokemon with its speed boosts.

If she’d had the chance she would have used that earlier but the Gentleman had been smart to use Thunder when he had and then lucky enough to get the paralysis effect kicking in.

Those were supposed to be slightly less than a one in three chance of hitting!

Spot shot across the field, feet raised up to deliver a punishing blow and he’d just made contact when the inevitable discharge flashed out again.

Both pokemon were hurled back and skidded to a stop.

Rattata struggled to its feet just as much as Spot did and Yolanda perked up.

“You can do it boy!” she called.

“Elegance is everything!” called the Gentleman as he too got in on cheering for his pokemon.

Rattata’s eyes hardened into resolve and rose fully while Spot staggered as yet another arc of lightning ran through him.

Yolanda cursed as Spot fell to the ground. Damn it! Twice in one fight? Urgh! That was just… such bad luck.

“I concede,” she called to her opponent and he blinked before perking up.

“Jolly good that!” he declared as Rattata turned and raced towards him, scuffed and covered in dirt. Despite that, the Gentleman still knelt and allowed it to cuddle up into him.

“You did marvelously dear boy!” declared the Gentleman as Yolanda walked up to spray Spot with Paralyz heal and give him a quick pet.

“You did too buddy,” she whispered. “You just had some bad luck. They were strong enough today, but they won’t be next time.”

Spot licked her hands and let his eyes close. His breathing evened out and Yolanda spent a moment checking him over. When nothing elicited a yelp or a growl in his sleep she nodded and returned him, slightly saddened that she’d started the day with a defeat.

You were supposed to triumph over the old people at the training grounds, not lose to them, she thought bitterly as she heard the chime of money transferring itself from her account to that of the Gentleman.

The man blinked at the amount and stared. “Hmmm, my goodness now I feel quite the heel,” he murmured.

“It’s the right amount,” she replied, feeling a slight flash of annoyance.

“Hmmm well, I shall have to buy my pokemon some treats. Usually we get in a few fights each day but I think you’ve rather wiped my poor pokemon out for the day. Do come back tomorrow if you’d like a rematch.”

Yoladna felt something spark within her. “Count on it,” she declared at the man smiled kindly.

“That’s the spirit!” he declared as he scooped his pokemon up and departed.

Yolanda watched him go only to sigh.

Whispers around her started to catch her ear.

“She’s not that good if she lost to Mr Harris…”

“Yeah! I reckon I can take her!” muttered another kid.

“Hey kid!” called an older man that Yolanda had identified as a rookie crusher. “Want to stay on the field?” he asked with a smirk.

The kids around her groaned. “Urgh! Nevermind Hank’s going to crush her.”

Yolanda’s eyes flicked over Hank’s form, noting the various items on display but the lack of callouses. His pokeballs were all ultraballs and he had a complete set of six.

Tilting her head so she could lock eyes with him she felt her heart beat a little quicker at the prospect of another fight.

Spot, for all that he was a good pokemon, was currently her weakest pokemon now that Flapper had evolved.

“Sure,” she replied, her hand drifting down to Slash’s pokeball. “Want to go full fight or..” she trailed off meaningfully.

“Oh I think three v three single match should be enough,” he drawled easily, confident in his victory.

Nodding Yolanda enlarged her pokeball and sent out Slash while he replied by sending out a Kadabra.

Hank stared across at the pokemon as Yolanda felt a smile stretch her face. “Oh! Unlucky!” she gushed as Slash, the Sneasel, leaned forward, locking into this fight as a cruel glint entered his eyes.

“Close the gap and go for the throat!” Yolanda called, unleashing her pokemon upon the hapless Kadabra with Agility.

“Teleport! Get out of there!” called Hank only for Slash to dig its claws as soon as he lost sight of his foe. When Kadabra reappeared in a flash of light Slash whirled about, ready to keep up the pressure.

“DP!” called Yolanda and her pokemon exploded with dark energy, causing the field to become tainted and Hank to curse and grasp for his pokeball.

“Return!” he called.

“Agility!” Yolanda called, more than happy enough to further empower her pokemon.

“Come out, Graveler!” declared Hank.

Instantly Yolanda perked up, knowing that she had to make a good showing. Thankfully, Slash was well-equipped to handle this situation.

“Low Kick!” she called and Slash blitzed across the space only to drop into a sliding kick that sent Graveler to its knees as the powerful fighting type move hit the ground.

Murmurs from the crowd once more caught Yolanda’s attention.

“Oh, she’s doing better this time around.”

“Hank’s gonna knock that pokemon out,” muttered another kid.

“Tch! Explosion!” Hank called,

Rather than panicking, Yolanda snapped out her next order. “Protect!”

A small, by Yolanda’s estimation, explosion rocked the field and washed over Slash only for a powerful shield to block all of the attack from doing anything.

Hank grunted in annoyance as a gust of wind blew away the dust and smoke to reveal his pokemon out of the fight and Slash still untouched.

“Damn it!” he growled, returning his pokemon and considering Yolanda. “Hmmm grass types are no good and another rock type is just asking for trouble. He muttered to himself.” He reached for the last pokeball on his belt. “Guess it’s up to you… Gyarados!” he announced as he sent out a giant pokemon.

“Urgh! Hank’s the worst!” wailed a kid as Gyarados emerged and roared upon taking to the field.

Yolanda grimaced in pain but stared ahead, not allowing herself to back down from the challenge as others backed up from the fight. That in itself was revealing.

Sadly, unlike her brother’s pokemon that had established training routines that they’d been working on for years at this point, Yolanda only had a team that at most she’d had for less than a year.

Terra was strong, but even she only had four moves to call her own. Unless she bought or traded for a more experienced pokemon, which she wasn’t going to do, it wasn’t possible to cast a surprise move.

Slash was a bad match for a Gyarados.

But that didn’t mean she was going to back down or trade her pokemon out to put them at a disadvantage.

“Go for its throat!” Yolanda commanded and Slash gave her a pleased smirk before sprinting straight at the powerful pokemon.

She knew how to do this! She’d even shown Slash an awesome video of a Meowth doing this with an Onix!

This could work!

“Dragon Rage!” Hank attempted to counter, causing a wave of fire to build up within Gyarados’ maw.

Only for Slash to catch it in the throat and begin swiping its claws over and over into Gyarados’ body, catching under the scales to dig in and draw blood.

Gyarados howled and writhed, rolling and trying to dislodge the terror that had locked onto its back. Slash thankfully was up to the challenge of avoiding the crushing forces and flailing tail.

Slash even went so far as to hop on Gyarado’s head.

“Headbutt!” snapped Hank, and Gyarados lunged at the ground in yet another attempt to smash Slash.

Instead, it got a Dark Pulse to the eyes before Slash flipped his way off his opponent.

Gyarados slammed into the ground and caused a minor shockwave that bounced both Hank and Yolanda into the air.

When they landed, they both staggered, with Hank going down to one knee and bracing with a hand while Yolanda bent her knees and absorbed the shockwave.

Slash landed after them and lightly on his feet while Gyrardos roiled like a serpent, twisting in on itself until it faced Slash, hissing and snarling as it did so.

“Surf!” declared Hank, and Yolanda clicked her tongue in annoyance.

“Close in!” she ordered, trying to limit the damage by having her pokemon once more ride Gyarados.

Sadly, Hank adapted to this. “Throw yourself forward into the wave!” he ordered of his pokemon as Slash began to claw his way up Gyarados once more.

Gyarados rode the wave high only to leap down in front and allow itself to be washed away with the tide. Slash didn’t come out of this as well.

When the Surf retracted, much of the area was sodden and slick, meaning it would be that much harder to get moving.

Gyarados rose, growling and searching only for Slash to stagger to his feet.

“Heabutt!” “Backflip with Dark Pulse!” ordered Yolanda.

Slash backflipped and attempted to detonate a Dark Pulse to throw himself further back only for it to be mistimed as instead he barely moved.

It was enough to not take the Headbutt straight on, but even a glancing blow sent him flying.

Gyarados, in the meantime, landed flat in the mud and stayed down.

Hank sighed. “Damn, another one?” Then he spied Slash’s down form. “Hmmm might have gotten us back in the fight, though! Nice work Gyarados!” he declared as both he and Yolanda returned their pokemon.

Yolanda sighed. “Nice work buddy. Two for one is always a good trade and you did it against a powerful pokemon both times.” She then reached for her second last pokemon as Kadabra once more took to the stage.

Hank looked confident, right up until Terra took to the field. His face twitched. “Wait… Pupitar are rock-ground type! We’ve got this in the bag!”

“Dark Pulse,” Yolanda ordered, more than happy to disabuse her opponent of his victory. Kadabra twitched in surprise as the dark type move slammed into its face and knocked it out with one hit.

Hank stared. “Huh? A single hit? That… no, but we got six badges… we’re not…” he eyed Yolanda. “Urgh! Alright! I can respect the hustle.” He nodded and returned his pokemon as Yolanda’s transceiver chimed with her winnings.

Hmm, that went a long way into fixing the dent she’d taken earlier.

Her eyes slid around the area, intent to continue her efforts.

Others met her gaze, and she locked in for a round of fights to fill her morning.

“You’re covered in mud, why?” asked Crystal by way of greeting when Yolanda trekked into their room.

“Been getting in the thick of it,” Yolanda replied easily as she collected her toiletries after depositing a tired but extremely pleased Terra into a chair across from her friend.

“Puuuuuu!” greeted Terra causing Crystal to turn her attention to the heavy pokemon.

“Hmmm get a few wins?”

“Pu! Pu! Tar!” Terra happily began regaling Crystal with a story about the five fights she’d taken part in along with getting to watch Flapper’s fights that had actually been kind of easy up until someone had dried out the field.

Turns out having a wet field made it harder to use rock type moves to knock a flying type out. Who could have guessed.

Yolanda smirked into the mirror as she slid into the shower.

She knew, of course and she’d made the most of that to win a handful of matches before Flapper had gone down.

With two losses to seven victories she had to admit that today had been good, even if the first loss still rankled.

A less than one in three chance, and she got it twice! Urgh!

She quickly rinsed off the mud and changed clothes into something more comfortable to lounge around in only to find Terra still chatting away at Crystal who had a glazed look on her face.

Crystal shot her a pleading expression, and Yolanda giggled. “We won a bunch of flights, didn’t we Terra?”

“Puuuupitar!” cheered Terra happily. As the only pokemon that hadn’t gone down, Terra had a lot to celebrate.

A chime from her transceiver had Yolanda perking up. “Right! The rest of our friends are healed up! Shall we?” she asked as she scooped up her starter.

Crystal rose and followed. “So nine fights before lunch eh? Hmmm, I’m going to have to get out and catch up.” Glancing around Crystal hummed. “Where’s Greta?”

“I think I saw her doing some work in a lady’s garden.”

“Urgh! Lame! That’s not how you’re supposed to earn money when you’re on your journey!”

Yolanda smirked, knowing that it wasn’t money that Greta was after but the chance of being taught some pokemon moves that she might not have access to. Like Bubblebeam, Aqua Jet, or something like that then spending a morning weeding a garden would be no issue. The trick was making a name for yourself and earning good will with the locals. Then they’d open up.

“So fights for you for the rest of the day?” Yolanda prompted her friend as she collected back her team from Nurse Joy with a quiet thanks.

“Hmmm yeah. Seems I’ll be soloing it if Greta’s busy. Unless you want to ditch your thing?”

“Can’t sorry,” apologised Yolanda with another small bow of her head. “I need to check out the venue and acoustics along with practise with the band that are going to be backing me up for the coming months.”

Crystal hummed. “Now, that sounded cool the first time you mentioned it, but when you told me about how you were just going to be practising the same four songs over and over again…” she shook her head. “Pass!”

“As long as you’re good for the show, I’m not bothered," Yolanda replied with a shrug.

Terra, on the other hand, wiggled, more than happy to spend the day listening to Yolanda play.

Finding themselves a cafe, Yolanda ordered some treats for her pokemon and a small snack for herself, only to watch on as Crystal made the most of being back in civilisation.

“I’ll have the big breakfast with all the sides, along with a brekkie burger, a pancake stack, and then I want a jug of juice, a bucket of coffee and… I think that’ll do. Oh, and what Yolanda ordered for the poke poffins?” she said, finishing off her order.

The waitress stared at the much smaller girl who merely smiled back. “I’m a growing girl.”

Nodding, the woman headed off to give the order while Yolanda giggled. “She probably thought  that you were sharing your breakfast with a team of six pokemon you know?”

“I don’t care!” replied Crystal, only for her mankey, Cyndaquil and Eevee to pop out and claim chairs next to her.

Rolling her eyes fondly, Yolanda released her own pokemon who claimed seats, or in Flapper’s case, the back of a chair.

Spot gave Yolanda a small bow. “Growllll,” the little dog pokemon whined.

“It’s alright! You fought hard and just had bad luck.” Spot peered up at her with big watery puppy eyes that had Yolanda melting. “We’re going to work on your Agility cause I’d like to get that to a proper Extreme speed instead of just a buffing move. From there? Well we’ll see what we need but I’d like to solidify what we have. Don’t worry. You did great!”

Yapping happily, Spot perked up, demonstrating that he had a memory like a Goldeen when it came to defeats. It was a good trait to have.

Brunch passed quickly enough and while Crystal was still working through her meal Yolanda returned her pokemon and hefted Terra onto a collapsible carry pack. “See you later!”

“Wib me lug!” called Crystal and it took Yolanda a moment to translate her friend’s mouthful of food.

“Good luck!” With that done she started jogging towards the hall that had been hired. She was kind of looking forward to her first true debut. No more house music or chill beats, but a proper rock show!

___________________

“Uhm… Howard… I thought it was a little hall?” Yolanda asked, staring at the performing hall she was in. “Like you know? Couple hundred people tops?”

“Yolanda, you don’t need to worry about filling those seats. You’ve got prebookings. This place is going to be pumping. This is just the hall we need to accommodate them.”

“Ah?” Yolanda swept her gaze around the hall. There were several sitting areas along with a proper mosh pit in front of the stage. “Right… right, that’s good I suppose?” she squeaked out.

“Good? It’s fantastic! You have some good music, and those posters with the direct links to your tracks were a big hit! I’ve been tracking site traffic and you have a consistent couple of hundred people always logged in! And the numbers are growing as people spread the word! For a girl that’s only been out and about for a few days properly this is meteoric!” gushed Howard as he made huge expansive gestures, earning a small nod from Yolanda.

“Oh? Alright then… that’s wow.”

“Yup! If you can ride this, you’ll be a true rock star I have no doubt!”

Howard clapped her on the shoulders lightly and began steering her into the hall. “So! Let’s meet the band members who will be supporting you!”

They walked up to the stage where several technicians were working on various items and there were three people lounging around on chairs. Two boys and one girl.

They were all older than Yolanda but only by a few years at most.

The girl of the group, a spunky pink-haired girl with her head shaved short, grinned and popped up to her feet. “Yo! It’s the girl herself! Nice to meet you, I’m Delta! I’m your backup singer and bass guitarist!”

She twirled around Yolanda. “Are you carrying a Pupitar plushie? That’s so cute!”

“Pupa?” replied Terra uncertainly causing Delta to blink. “Oh… that’s actually your starter, isn’t it… Aren’t they like, heavy?”

“No?” Yolanda replied only to cough. “This is Terra, by the way? And I’m Yolanda!” she bowed at the waist. “Nice to meet you!”

“Yo! I’m Draven!” called a blue-haired boy with his hair slicked up into jagged points. He jerked his thumb to the side. “And this is my bro Drake! I’m the male vocalist and keyboardist if you need it, while my brother is the drummer!”

Drake, a taller, thicker set teen, raised a hand only to retreat into his hoodie so that only his nose and a few dark locks of hair peeked out.

Draven snickered. “Don’t mind him, he’s just shy when he meets people for the first time and likes having other things to focus on.”

“Oh? Well, nice to meet you too!” Yolanda replied before tilting her head. “I’m sensing a theme with the D names… hope you’re not expecting me to change mine?” she glanced to the other girl only to find her staring blankly off into the distance.

“Not heavy?” the girl muttered under her breath.

Howard snorted “Ha! Rebrand you? No! No! No! You’re the star with the band as your support. I assure you we’re all professionals here! They are getting a sizable cut of the profits as well as their name on the boards. See?” He produced a poster for the upcoming event.

On it in bold, Yolanda saw her own name, while a small tag after was also visible. “The rockets?” she asked.

“Yeah, we were small-time, doing covers and small performances in some restaurants when we got scouted for this by Howard!” Draven declared with relish.

“Oh? Good, that’s good then?” Yolanda licked her lips and looked around. “So we’re just going to practise up here then?” she asked which earned her a round of nods.

“Is the stage the best place to do this? Wouldn’t a studio work better?” she asked, only to twitch, uncertain who she was addressing.

“Hmmm, nah. This is good as you get used to the ambience of the hall. It’s better than the garage and small stages we’ve worked on. Kind of crazy that you’re garnering this attention, but then again with the songs you have…” Delta shook her head.

“This feels very rushed…” Yolanda asked, eyes flicking around.

Howard raised his hands. “I admit this is jumping several steps, but you have the skills. Now we just need to harmonise with the band. They’ve been practising with the music you made. I’ve had a few people create sheet music for them but it’s your song, so...” he gestured expansively. “Which song did you want to begin with?”

Yolanda nodded again. They had a few days yet… “Right, let’s start from the top then?”

Delta grinned. “We will rock you?” she asked and Yolanda smirked back as she deposited Terra off to the side.

“It’s a good song to start with,” she replied, knowing that it both paid homage to where she came from, while also being a great show starter.

Yolanda nodded, then drew out the guitar she’d been practising with in secret for the last few weeks.

 Not even Sabrina…

Well, she probably knew, but everyone else would be shocked when they saw she’d put aside the acoustic guitar!

“Nice strings, so count us in?” Delta called as she and the others took up their own instruments. Yolanda was amused to notice that Drake really was a big guy. His hair dripped down into his face, keeping his face obscured only for him to tie it up into a ponytail.

When he looked up and noticed Yolanda watching him he blushed and ducked behind his drumset.

“R-r-r-ready when you are!” he called from behind them.

Cute.

Yolanda turned away, letting Drake come back up.

“Alright countdown from three?” she asked and got weird looks.

“Oh, was that wrong? How do you usually count it in?”

Drumsticks began to click behind her in a countdown and Yolanda grinned, knowing that things were going to work out great with these guys.

The stage began to rumble as they all stomped and clapped in time before Yolanda cut in with her guitar and a few beats later came in with the lyrics as loud as she could go.

She had a huge grin on her face for the entire song and while she felt a bit more tired after the song than normally, she quickly took a sip and nodded at the band. They had been able to keep up which was good.

Howard shot them all thumbs up. “Nice. There were a few points missed but you all just keep jamming out, we’ll go over it properly after you have your fun!” he announced.

Yolanda blinked. “Are you sure?”

Howard nodded. “Have fun first then get into the boring stuff!”

Delta hopped up to the front. “So, next song?”

Yolanda coughed. “You tried playing Thunderstruck yet?” Yolanda replied, earning a huge grin from the rest of her band. “Then we’ll go into Crazy Train.”

Yeah, this was looking like it could work out great.

By the time she was finished with their set she felt exhausted but alive in a way she hadn’t experienced except from winning pokemon fights.

Howard nodded. “You’re going to need to build up for what’s to come. I’ve spoken with others and there is a regime you will need to follow for singing practise when you’re not performing or practising.”

“So when I’m on journeying?” Yoladna replied, accepting the small book.

“Woah? You’re doing this and your Journey?” Delta asked.

“Ah, yeah. The performances are being set up ahead of time for me to reach while travelling around.”

“That’s awesome!” cheered Delta.

Drake, nodded once, only to hide behind a set of sheet music that he began studying seriously.

Draven chuckled. “We hang in Vermilion City, so when you come there, make sure you crash at our place when you come aorund, yeah?”

“That sounds nice,” Yolanda smiled back. Even without the victories and the songs, the fact that she’d made some more friends was just the cherry on top of her slice of pie for the day.

She stretched and looked out over the hall.

Three more days… then this place was going to be full.

She really hoped she was ready by then.

“Lets try again?” she suggested, earning a round of eager nods from her new friends while Terra squirmed in delight, more than happy to continue ‘rocking out’.

A.N. Thanks go to my patreons for your continued support!

It also goes to Twmmy for proofreading this chapter!

As I mentioned before the poll, I had another batch of Yolanda chapters written up that I’d like to run through before anything changed as per the poll that we had. Expect things to shift around for April!

Comments

Jordan Belmont

Thanks for the chapter, but I'm not reading it can someone give me the cliffnotes on if there's anything relevant to past plot threads. Thanks guys

Alexander Gofric

A little Yolanda is great to see. Looking forward to go back to Brock and Sabrina soon but appreciate the new perspective every now and then.

Jordan Belmont

I just wanna see Brock, if I still got a hard enough chapter with these Yolanda snippets I'd not care as much but I hate the replacements

Alexander Gofric

I agree but it’s hard to have two new chapters every week for such an expansive story like this. If these chapters help motivate viva or provide a unique perspective that can’t be seen by Brock I appreciate it. Also we have had plenty of chapters in hard enough that have been completely in the perspective of other characters besides Brock: this is the same thing it’s just getting a little more coverage as there will be more frequent perspective shifts to Yolanda.

Sean

I need to know what the last song is! What do you close with when you’ve already played Queen, AC/DC, and Ozzy?

AkiraKeoro

So what did win? I got to say I like these lower stakes breaks. Also nice to see the Ratatta man thriving. Wonder if his Ratatta can beat Joey’s legendary Ratatta.

Tommy Tsunami

Ex Rockets filtering out from the Brainwash Academy have been established as relevant and recurring supporting characters. Also Yolanda had her first proper on screen loss *and* her first off screen loss.

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Edit: Then they’d open up.” The " at the end is unnecessary as no one was talking, Yolanda was just thinking to herself

HoldTightAndPretendItsAPlan

Edit: “As long as you’re good for the show, I’m not bothered, Yolanda replied with a shrug. There should be a " after 'bothered,'

Jordan Belmont

I agree with everything you said I just don't like that the character we're following is Yolanda. If it was AJ, Claire, lance, professor oak, Agatha or Karen I'd love to see it but Yolanda comes with too much spoiled rich girl vibes and it reminds me of viva's favoritism with female characters. Other then that I said in a previous comment section that I miss the interludes where we got to see things from the Pokemon's pov. But if viva needs to do these types of chapters I won't complain too much lol

Alexander Gofric

I mean I understand variety is great. I did love the last lance pov chapter where he shutdown the elders. Also the Pokémon perspective chapters are also always awesome. Surprisingly few Sabrina pov chapters, but she must be hard to write given how much her powers must impact her thought processes. Yolanda I wouldn’t say is spoiled but she is privleged which takes away from some of the hurdles others have to go through and I admit other characters like those you mentioned, plus others like Ash would probably be more interesting.

Raven

Rockets ? Does anyone else think that’s a little suspicious. That’s like waving a red flag in front of a bull. I’m surprised that Brock hasn’t reviewed who would be around his siblings… also a band with the same name as a criminal organization, you would think the cops would investigate them.

Onean

I'm still not really understanding what people have against a Yolanda story, despite having read quite a few explanations from them by now. This is great, and I'm enjoying each one just as much as Brock's chapters.

Eli

Thanks for the chapter!

Oddities

I hope not, after Mt. moon, that feels really forced. I might be remembering this wrong, but wasn’t Mia a red herring rocket spy? Did she have zubat and ekans alongside little mouse? Our am I mistaking her for an other kid/trainer?

DragonRage

The rockets. Pink haired girl, blue haired boy, guy in a full body concealing outfit. Yolanda’s backup band are Jessie, James, and three Meowths in a trench coat aren’t they.

daniel wingborg

Edit: Crystal shot her a pleading expression, and Yolanda giggled. “We won a bunch of flights, didn’t we Terra?” flights -> fights

FiveBoxes

Isn't Visquez also a good singer? Janine was sneaking around to listen to her. Thunderstruck would definitely fit her. (But I don't really remember what genre she sings.)

ElricFlairgold

Yoladna forgot to tell Mr Harris about how she figured out where the Rattata had been digging. Of course, Mr Harris also forgot...

I have no idea how Yolanda is playing Thunderstruck and Crazy Train, given that - unlike Brock, she doesn't have memories from our world and thus never heard the originals - maybe Brock sung them to her in the past, but he wouldn't have played the instruments - the vocal melody is at most half of what makes those songs, the guitar melody etc. are crucial - I'm doubtful Yolanda managed to get the electric guitar skills of the AC/DC guitarist at her young age while also having only recently practiced the electric guitar, and in secret at that - both originals are sung by very distinct sounding male voices that a barely teenaged girl wouldn't be able to even approximate, and both them and We Will Rock You would lose quite a bit of impact from being sung with the kind of voices she'd be able to do
