Tomorrow, I'm ending grand-daddy cable's stranglehold on my internet and switching over to fiber. Other than our internet, the only reason why the wife and I still have cable TV is, quite literally, so that she has something to fall asleep to come bedtime...or watching something while having dinner. On that note, I can't justify paying nearly (soon to be over) $300 per month for a sleep aid or dinner-companion any longer. The only time I ever watch regular television is....well, I don't. A fiber connections is faster, more reliable, and non-laggy...that slow decent into madness when, at peak usage hours, you and all of your neighbors are essentially trying to use the same party line. Not to mention cheaper....twice (or more) the gig-rate at (less than) one quarter of the price.
Also, regardless of having an 'unlimited' data plan, my soon to be un-dearly departed cable company started instituting across-the-board data caps....unless you're willing to pay more....which I'm not....so go fuck yourself.
And, yes, I can see you slowly shaking your head at your screen/device, and saying: Jesus, Phil, you still have cable?! Yeah, I'm a slow learner like that. Hey, don't mock me....several of my neighbors still have landline telephones. I recently discovered that one of them even has (dear gawd, deliver me from 1995) ye olde DSL.
So, I already have Monday's and Wednesday's posts scheduled, but I don't know if there will be any interruption between tomorrows fiber install and cutting the cable off shortly there after. We'll just have to wait and see how the install goes tomorrow....and the inevitable cursing and gnashing of teeth when I switch every device in the house over to a new network.
