Heya!

Just got this email -- Apple users' new pledges to Patreon after November will have a hefty 30% Apple Tax added. They're also forcing creators to move to a subscription model by November to enforce this.

I've lots of questions so i'll need more info before I found out how much this affects OSW (I'm hoping not much), but I thought i'd keep ya in the loop! For advice for pledging to new creators after November: if possible, pledge on a non-iOS device (eg laptop) and then log into your iPhone app to access the content. Boom!

Appreciate you brothers. Apple users really get screwed with their "Apple Tax" -- have you noticed looking at prices on eBay, Amazon, making accommodation reservations on Booking etc is more expensive on iOS devices? Particularly an iPad!! It's fookin' mental. Anyway hopefully this won't mean too much change I'll let ya know when I do! All the best, Love, Jay 💚

p.s. I'm doing final editing for the next OSW so i should have good news for ye over the next week!

Thank you for the update and relevant info, Mr. Hunter.

While I'm an Android user and this won't affect me, I always appreciate you being so transparent with the background stuff with Patreon, YouTube, etc.

The finger thing means the taxes

I'm intrigued how this can be enforced globally. I thought I read the EU will only allow 10% tax for in-app purchases? And places like South Korea ban anything that doesn't allow alternative ways to pay for purchases. Disappointing that Patreon constantly passes these kind of headaches to the creators and their supporters rather than tackle it themselves

That's so scummy. 30% is so much money

Irwin R. Shyster is sweatily enjoying this.

Guys Tim Cook needs money for that new extension/conservatory he’s building, won’t anyone think of poor Tim.

Apple does this for a lot of subscriptions if you do it through their devices. Like if you have YouTube premium via the iOS subscription it’s closer to 18.99 but if you go through YouTube’s website and signup it’s closer to 13.99 It’s a weird practice to take an extra bite out of the customer purely for the benefit of Apples wallet.

Not having a mobile app? Who cares. I can still use the Patreon website.
