"If we were to cover another anime, which one should we do?" Uh oh... Be prepared for an avalanche of weebs' suggestions now.

100% do not risk a strike on the main channel! Bonus points for DL option!

Very interested - this is one of my favorite movies of all time but it's a bit of a jump into the deep end!

I love anime, I love Ghibli but this is gonna be a hard watch as this was the film my first girlfriend put on when she had me do mushrooms with her and it made me think I was in the movie 😅 For fear of being derived a "weeb" (which is odd seeing as we're all here to because of our love of wrassle bollix) I'm sure loads will point out classics like Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Perfect Blue and so on but can I suggest Mob Psycho 100. Not even really as a suggestion to review but more to check out in your own time as it is a great twist on the classic "schoolkid with powers" premise and it has so much heart and fun to it all. It's also my daughter's favourite anime (so im a bit biased i admit) It's only 3 seasons of 12 episodes before you fear I'm reccomending a One Piece/Naruto-length commitment 😅 and it is definitively wrapped up as a story too

Steve Yurko

I'm ready to give you your first annoying answer to a question you raise! The version you were watching probably only had English subtitles for the translation of the Japanese audio, and didn't include subtitles or closed captioning for the English dub.

Weekend plans confirmed!!

Movie-wise, I'm gonna give you a bit of a swerve and recommend the original animated "Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade." It's a grounded, realistic political thriller about an alt-history fascist Japan and a soldier questioning his role in it all. No supernatural anything, no "lol trope" stuff, it's just a very serious drama with some absolutely dynamite action.

Brian Buchmeier

I'm guessing you want movie suggestions for other anime as opposed to series. I would recommend something from Satoshi Kon. Perfect Blue or Paprika specifically, but Tokyo Godfathers would be good if you do it around the holidays. If you do another Miyazaki movie, I'd go with Laputa or Nausicaa.

Cecil Miller

If you ever do another Miyazaki film, my personal favorite is The Wind Rises.

Akari, absolute classic Anime film

I think the weird, monotone dub has a strange charm to it. In the same way that Hades and Hades 2 pull that trick off, whether or not it's by intention (and it probably isn't). The voices are still very distinct and the strangeness makes you pay more attention to the dialogue itself. Which doesn't make it good, but I'd much rather have a weird dub than a forgettable one. Like all entertainment, there's all kinds of anime for all kinds of people. And the most popular stuff is often the prettiest stuff that's also pretty boring and/or depressing or horrific. Because art. For things that aren't like that, if we're talking movies, maybe Redline or the Gurren Lagann movies (the condensed version of the show) work well. Anything with Lupin the Third, First Contact's a great one. There's other more Ghibli-ish stuff out there like Sword of the Stranger or A Whisker Away or The Boy And The Beast. As good and pretty-looking as any Ghibli film, but they've got all the same self-seriousness and occasional slowness too. It's rare to find anything without that. I guess older OVAs like Ninja Scroll or Vampire Hunter D were a bit more high octane. To get proper old school wrestling review, there's Kinnikuman...which I love for its own brand of weirdness. I know there's some movies of it too, some of which you might actually be able to find somewhere subtitled. Maybe. But Kinnikuman's more of a novelty than a must watch, unless you're really into jokes about hyper-specific 80s Japan pop culture. And occasional racist caricatures.

I want to Request an anime Film that has the bombasity of Wrestling. Obviously there are some anime I love but they're a bit of an ask for you guys to cover. If you want to dip your toe in one of the big franchises, I recommend any of the One Piece Movies from Strong World onward (there's 5 to choose from). For more classic stuff I recommend Ninja Scroll. And as a shitpost, I recommend The Laws of the Universe: Part 0 and/or 1.

Alexander Kalil

Yu Yu Hakusho be an awesome anime review. Dark Tournament is just a wrestling tournament!

Khrisna Lunandi

There's lots of great anime like Evangelion, Bebop or Madoka Magica. But if it's not your thing, you guys should instead review a wrestling related anime like Tiger Mask W with all the New Japan lads. Loved the analysis of my favourite Ghibli film by people who don't like anime. Gives a really different perspective.

Lloydy1916

Porco Rosso is my personal favourite Ghibli movie, you guys would have a blast with that one

George Gutt

Downloaded to watch on the plane. 1.5 gigs in like a minute over cellular connection, what a world we live in. Other anime to review . . . Grave of the Fireflies; Trigun Badlands Rumble, but I don't think you guys like westerns; Ghost in the Shell, even though you have seen it before.

Marcus Sewell

Man .. if yall do an anime video again, I would love to see a Dragon Ball Z review .. or if I do get grab the 50 a month .. it’s gonna be Dragon Ball Evolution ;)

Carl Sciacchitano

Loved the video! I'll offer a few tidbits you might find interesting: - Suzuki's infamous "no cuts" threat to Weinstein/Miramax was largely because Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind had been butchered for its American release, chopped up and altered into what was released as "Warriors of the Wind". It completely soured Miyazaki on foreign releases until they tried again with Mononoke. - This is all very easy to miss if you aren't needlessly familiar with Japanese history, but Ashitaka is a member of the Emishi people, an indigenous group who lived in northern Japan in a region now known as Tohoku. Like a similar group, the Ainu, the Emishi were pushed north and subjugated by the encroaching Yamato people, who were a later arrival to the archipelago and now make up most of Japan's population (this would include the emperor and lady Eboshi). So Ashitaka is truly an outsider, ethnically and culturally, which is why, for example, he doesn't carry money that people recognize, dresses differently and doesn't use a katana. If the character were real, he wouldn't have even spoken Japanese. - Also, during the Muromachi period, the imperial court lost quite a bit of its authority and eventually control of the country was lost to regional warlords (the end of this period is when the TV series Shogun takes place that you mentioned). So in addition to the conflict between nature and modernity that you mentioned, there's also a sense that nearly everyone is representative of a way of life that seems to be dying out, even the emperor as represented by his envoy and desperation for eternal life.

Having watched the Eldin Ring and dlc video half a dozen times even though I'll probably never have the chance to play either, hearing you guys talk about Zelda for a while made me a happy man. Cheers lads

J-Boogie

If you do another Ghibli, can't go wrong with Howl's Moving Castle.

Maurice Bear

Final Fantasy also took some inspiration from Studio Ghibli the Omn from Nausicaa as enemy bugs. Also glad you guys dipped into Ghibli it is one of my favourite animated films.

Knobiknows

This is brilliant! I really enjoy these reviews of the more out there contant like Kung Fu Hustle or Hard Ticket to Hawaii

Knobiknows

Just wanted to add that a lot of Japanese movies might feel jarring or oddly paced because they don't follow the usual hero's journey plot development. We're so zoned in on the standard 3 act structure with the default ups and downs that something like the absence of a clear villain makes the movie feel off.

Stavros

Do some Makoto Shinkai like Your Name or Suzume. Love to hear you guys grapple with those. Mainly because at least one of you would feel like you were tricked into it 😄

PhoenixNoKiseki

I think reviewing Evangelion would be interesting, but that would be a super long video to cover the series, movies and rebuild movies. Grave of the Fireflies is great but a super hard watch.

Ross Vincent

I will always mark out to Jay marking out to Shadowrun.
