Is the link working for everyone? "Unable to find video"

Matt Lynch

Link is just opening vimeo for me, not opening to the episode.

I remember seeing this in the cinema with my brother and that was over 8 years ago, you could run a movie night with this & the first Kickass ( not Kickass 2 that was utter shite)

Some Blockhead

Watched Scott Pilgrim vs the World when it was fairly new, and I remember it rubbing me the wrong way due to the angsty mid-20s teenage stuff. It had its moments with the style and video game references, but overall I went away from it let down and disinterested in anything to do with the franchise. Great review though, as it almost made me want to give the movie another chance.

I remember reading the comics years ago and really enjoying it. I thought the idea of normal people just having powers and epic fights .... because ?!???was fun. And when I saw the film I enjoyed it but agree with v1 that the characters wer allot more dislikable. Shame because in the comics it's allot more subtle and understandable. But all in all it's a great franchise and I plan to eventually get around to buying the books and dvd because fuck it I still enjoy buying shit I don't really need.

I loved this movie when it came out and it meant so much to me for many reasons. I saw it around winter 2010 maybe early 2011 in college. I was reeling after two dating relationships in two months crashing and burning. I was severely depressed, bitter, miserable and didn't even want to be around other couples. Even my best friends. I recall coming back to the campus after my internship and my mates demanded I joined them . It made me laugh, smile, tear up and gave me hope. While I am still not dating anyone (actually haven't ever since), I still does. And no, not that I'd land an absolute cunt like Ramona (despite her being super cute in this). All that baggage from her ex's AND she expects Scott to fight them? Fuck right off! Red flag! The band Clash at Demonhead, named after criminally underrated NES gem? GET IN! Scott is mega heel and may take Cunt of the Year XD I liked that it was shot in Toronto, seeing Honest Ed's was a nice bit of nostalgia. The Zelda sounds, everything. The Xbox game for this was a banger and am gutted it's no longer available. Whew!Thank you so much for reviewing this lads!

MoonSpider

Yeah yeah!!!! One of my fave films. Kudos :)

So what O'Malley meant was the ending of the movie was all Wright's (because he was writing and drawing the final volume while Wright was writing the screenplay) and the endings are very different. I really enjoyed the book's ending which made the movie's not quite as good for me. After Scott beats the twins he and Ramona break up. Scott then spends 4 months at his parents' doing nothing but playing video games. He then realizes that he's been an evil ex to all of his exes. We then find out Ramona did the exact same thing, and was also actually the evil ex in her relationships. Which explains why in the books the exes are generally nice people. The two reconcile, beat Gideon and get back together.

So as previously said Scott Pilgrim is visually great and I agree with Jay in that the soundtrack is rocking . I love the concept of the scenario being a retro video game story line and I do think the seven evil exes' gimmicks are great. But like you guys said the majority of characters really drag it down and only Knives and Wallace are likable enough, which makes this movie not something I would take out time to watch on purpose. Still I think the review work in that kind of gauntlet format and hit really all the key points. Honestly I should check out the graphic novel as at very least it may handle the characters better. Still solid review.

Joriss

Bad idea to 'listen' to this video during work, laughed out loud too many times and got a lot of weird faces from co-workers.

Scott Elizabeth Baird

Scott Pilgrim always reminded me of an old MTV cartoon called Downtown, which was a show about trendy kids in New York who mostly talked in movie/TV/video game references. I also always thought it was hipster wank bollocks, but I love you guys so I'll watch the review.

Reptilescorpio

Love the movie despite its differences from the fantastic graphic novels. BTW the movie came out between volume 5 & 6 so the majority of the story was done by that point! Well written 'oh I just realised the protagonist is a selfish bad person at times' story.

HairyKnacker

Whopper review lads! Not seen this but will have to look it up on Netflix or other streaming services- especially as it has the delicious Alison Pill- hubba, hubba!

Loved the review lads! This is one of my favourite movies. I remember a friend dragging me to the theatre to watch this and then from the universal screen I was completely hooked. I am from Toronto and when it came out I was living across Canada as a peripheral member of the Calgary indie music scene and it reminded me of everything I love about the city and all those locations and stores and venues that I've been to. It captures my late 20s so it holds a special place in my heart. Such a unique movie and Zelda gets so much of the attention but I have always enjoyed the Earthbound reference that is the Chaos Theatre. Anyway, before I start to ramble, another whopper review. Thanks for all the laughs.
