OSW 79 (Rumble '19) Show Notes! (Patreon)
Content
Hiyoooooooo! Thanks so much for your lovely feedback on the 2019 Rumble review! Here's a couple of tidbits about it :D
- It's not on YouTube yet because WWE haven't given it the all-clear yet. Usually it's just a few days but I dunno, maybe their youtube guy is on holiday! As soon as it is it'll be going live. I don't know when it'll be available on YouTube, just sometime in the next month. But you can download it from Vimeo or the showpage here! If you're wondering how come we can use WWE footage in general, we went back and forth with WWE's lawyers back in 2014 and they said ok. But they don't specifically help us with youtube (we appeal blocks like everyone else on YouTube!)
- Not counting the let's watches/Q&As, the 2019 Rumble is the longest episode we've ever done! The 2nd longest is Mania 34 (at 2hr12). Hope you loved the length (*V1 squeeze noise*)
- this is the first episode to have Maffew in person! We flew him in from Newcastle to Dublin and rented a place for the night. Hopefully u can notice in the review that it's more personable! Plus I'm able to put him off while he's trying to make a point, while being silent & making finger-sex motions!
- The original audio has a decent amount of reverb/echo, the final audio is a mix of just hearing 1/2/3/4 person's microphones, levelated (which is just all audio tracks laid on top of another) and mostly the Auphonic mix (which is a paid online service that digitally "subtracts" other people's audio when you're not supposed to hear them. It's not 100% (it routinely mutes people laughing) so that's why I meticulously comb through the audio to present the best version possible!
- it was pretty cool to hear Maff's thoughts on "Botch Club" , WWE's version of Botchamania. How surreal is that? Maybe we'll get "Old School WWE Review" with Becky, Sheamo and Funley :D :D You can read Maffew's extended/in-depth thoughts on it here on Botchamania.com
(Screenshot of the preliminary video scoping out the timing and general look of Jockswatch)
- Jockswatch is so much fun. A devil to edit but it's hilarious seeing them all together. The Ronda animation for it was done by @McKodem! (who also does our animated segments)
(We give Kevin Dunn some awful guff, it never stops being funny to me! You can see him being the only one with a non-picture avatar on the WWE corporate website!)
- When Swagger had his first MMA match, I got a ton of people contacting me "from the future" telling me he'd won! Hilarious, thanks brahs :)
- How many people from Chad do you think watch WWE?
- You can see Kacy Catanzaro's awesome ninja warrior performance here
- I think OOC would've been much hotter on Becky if he watched the weekly show or caught her stuff on twitter. But from little he did see he was impressed. Also I think i'll get him to review the 205 Live match next time he's on, I bet he'd love it.
- We actually did a review of RAW but it was a bit low energy since it was hour 4 of recording! It made the episode overly long and a bit all over the place, so I just incorporated bits/references into relevant parts of the show.

^^ Some initial artwork deciding on the style of Becky (left) and the timing of the ABQ animation (right)
- The Dragon Ball Z comic artwork and Ad Break Q animation was done by Lewis Sawyer aka JackDaSlayer! He included a schneaky OSW reference in his DBZ fan-film Invasion of Tradick. Cool that he got his Goku voice actor Jorge to do lines for us, and did the 'scream' himself :)
There's a ton of wrestling references sprinkled throughout the film. Here's a quickie rundown from the man himself!
The main villain, King Goji (Named after both Goji Berries, as most dbz characters are named after food, and KingGoji was the name of the Godzilla suit used in Godzilla vs King Kong), Goji was completely based on Finn Balor's Demon king gimmick as well as Venom which all kinda tied in there.
Here are some artworks of him so you can kinda see the comparisons.

and a few I did of Finn for comparison

In the movie:
at 7:41 ( https://youtu.be/Rq4zLwuwu1g?t=460 ) you see Goji or the first time and his room has a lot of subtle bullet club and balor references, like the giant eye of balor on the floor and the bullet club (let's call them teeth) on the pillars and his chair when you later see him stand.
Also at 14:20, he calls his beam attack the coup de grace (or however you spell it)
At 32:15, when he explains how he gets his power, he emerges from the smoke, crawling on the floor, and gets the red veins on one side of his body and one arm like Finn.
Goji's theme song which was basically a cross of Finn's theme and his Devvit theme in the DBZ music style which a bit plays at 7:41, 12:40, 14:20 and 33:17. But if you want to hear the full version it is here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk8L7ao4_zo and part 2 for the fight bit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQTRFOOMztg
35:00 to 36:00 the whole scene is Goji killing Saibamen in the style of Finn - using the slingblade, footstomp, Pelee Kick and various finny things!
And one other random thing, not finn related but his voice is based on Xemnas from Kingdom Hearts and he was voiced by a guy called Stefan Johnson.
Thanks Lewis/JackDaSlayer! He's appearing at the UK DBZ convention Saiyacon in September, where they're screening his movie on a giant screen!Bonus! Here's the initial RR '19 artwork, note the removal of "OSW Review" in favour of just RR'19, the typo (RRumble) and also it has Alexa Bliss & AJ. I asked to have Rey in there (and removed Bliss/AJ) to make the final poster more symmetrical!
---------- Alrighty that's it! Hope you enjoyed it brah! Catch ya later in the week for an OSW update :)
Love Jay
