I’ve been a fan of Evercade for a while now and this episode has been something of a long time coming. I was concerned to some extent that I like Evercade a bit too much, and that any interview would be essentially me saying “why are you so great?” over and over again, but I think this turned out more interesting than that.

If you’re not familiar with Evercade, it’s a system that primarily sells itself on compilation cartridges, a few of which are discussed here. What drew me to the whole thing, of course, was the likes of The Oliver Twins Collection and the later Bitmap Brothers/Codemasters sets. It’s not just that these are pretty laser-focused in appealing to me, it’s that the games simply aren’t available on any other contemporary system.

Hopefully Evercade will keep releasing cartridges both niche and broad in appeal; I never thought the DOS Duke Nukem games would get anything like the attention they were given here, so I’ve got my eyes perpetually on their new releases. That said, I’m running out of pipe dreams. Maybe if they got the Miner Willy games on a cart, somehow? That’d be neat. Though with 64-bit games having landed on the system now, the sky is the limit. Though we’re probably not getting Castlevania…

Hahah, knew it was only a matter of time. Excited to get into this one!

Fun episode. I bought my Evercade Vs because I really wanted to play Combatribes which I spent loads of quarters on as a kid. I popped it in and realized the game was awful after the first stage. Thankfully Evercade has dozens of other genuinely good games and I love collecting the little boxes.

I can't justify the Evercade, but would definitely pick up many of the games if they were released on Steam... Also, it drives me nuts hearing Discord notifications during podcasts.

Stu, I agree with your guest’s idea of weekly Retronauts streaming! I’d increase my Patreon tier for that.

Maybe I was too hasty to judge Piko! If Evercade are lending a hand ;) to fix up Glover, heh.

I had to get an evercade exp after listening to this episode. Time to Kill is still really fun and Total Meltdown is nice (even if I miss some jumps due to the choppy framerate) And since the Exp came with lots of capcom games I tried Mercs for the first time. And it RULES!! Gonna give Glover a go later today. And Boogerman! Don't know about Sword of Sodan though. Maybe for a laugh if nothing else 😅😁 Thinking of getting a VS too btw 😄
