QotM: I want a One Piece fighting game in the style of Dragon Ball Fighter Z. There have been so many over the years of varying quality (the last one Burning Blood was solid but slight but I miss the old Power Stone clones). A big budget, animated 2D fighter (preferably by Arcsys) would make me so happy. Also the conversation surrounding my comment last month reminded me of the other defective game incident. Had to return Ratchet & Clank Going Commando multiple times too but it never worked after the 3rd planet. I eventually got the Greatest Hits version and it worked fine.

Chris (not Benoit)

With all of Stu’s love for Peter Griffin, if/when he goes to Osaka, I’d hope the DF and Stu team would consider doing a This Month in Retronauts from the Drunken Clam near the Dotonbori area!

littleterr0r

UPDATE! My daughter has since beaten Silent Hill 2 and 3 multiple times and cosplayed as Lisa Garland from Silent Hill 1 this weekend wearing my wife's old cosplay at a con.

QotM: Since playing both series separately on Dreamcast as a kid, I've anyways wanted a Marvel VS Capcom VS SNK. I know it'll never happen, so I've moved onto hoping for an all horror character MK style game. If Dead by Daylight can get all the licenses, so can WB, right? Also, last month's question about a sleeper hit: Buckshot Roulette. A steal at $3, just play it.

TheLupineOne

James Brown overlaid with Doom sound effects might be the best closeout Retronauts has ever had. Trying to work out if playing Doom on a sex toy would be a real life example of John Romero making you his bitch.

QotM: As someone who loves fighting games, but is terrible at them and never got into the world of high-level play, my ideal fighting game would be a modern, refined version of Soul Blade or Bushido Blade. Fighting games that prioritize a robust story mode over the viability as a tournament game. Throw in an assortment of famous monsters from folklore, literature and movies ala Darkstalkers, with the transformation system in Bloody Roar, and I'd have a new favorite fighting game.

Nat

As someone who is the child of immigrants from Hong KongKong, I’m suddenly interested in playing 1000xResist after learning about it for the first time.

Tall Rob

QotM: The mention of Ancient Roman's English patch made me think of America Daitōryō Senkyo for the Famicom, which is not fully translated. It's game that is a simulation of the 1988 U.S. Presidential election. The 2024 U.S. election is particularly contentious, so why not making a fighting game featuring presidential candidates? You could have the president and vice president as a tag team pair. There could be early rounds where you have to select a political party and then fight through the party primary to make it to the ultimate challenge: a 2v2 general election brawl against your rival. The game wouldn't need to be limited to this year's candidates either. You know you'd love to see Abraham Lincoln roundhouse kicking Richard Nixon across the screen, or Obama piledriving Reagan into dust.

Shrunken Shrine

I will not be silenced (by 50%)! But I will break my comment into chunks so you can ignore me at your leisure. 1000 Eggs Resist: Made me think about how games offer unparalleled narrative freedom compared to other media. I've never played anything quite like this, but I hesitate to call its interactivity 'gameplay'. I think it conveys isolation and alienation more than a mystery, but oh boy is there a lotta walking! Striking visuals though. Delicious in Dungeon seems to have brought with it a new wave of interest in proper fantasy anime (like Frieren, which also has a lovely tone and artstyle). After years of isekai slop, unironic fantasy is back. Stop being afraid to have your characters authentically live in a fictional world, cowards! If anyone is waiting for DiD season 2, do NOT sleep on the manga. Its final volume just came out in English and Ryoko Kui's artwork is frequently stunning in its scale and composition. She's also a noted CRPG sicko and turns out fanart for a bunch of games. QotM: I NEED a first-person jousting game with Bushido Blade mechanics. Let me customise a lance's weight for balance, aim and power. Let me perish for my kingdom's dignity, which probably has a silly name like Cockshonor. One good hit, instant death. One bad hit, tell me if me or my opponent was taken by sepsis in their tent days later. I want this. You want this. This is video games.

Jeff Peterson

QotM: My pitch is for a fighting game between B-tier and lower platformer mascots. Who will be the best: Bubsy? Aero the Acrobat? Gex? Croc? The battle up the ladder to reach the final boss, Mario, to become the Mario killer that they all dreamed of becoming. Of course, the controls for the characters will be exactly as bad as they are in their respective platformers. This would be made specifically to pander to streamers and people who lately, and confusingly, seem to unironically like Bubsy and Gex. I’m sure it’d be a hit!

Shel Freezes Over

My pitch for a fighting game: we already had a mediocre sci-fi fighter in Star Wars Masters of Teras Kasi. Why not have a Star Trek one? Spock with a special Vulcan Mind Meld Move, Riker with his patented backwards chair sit, Odo shapeshifting into any number of Trekkian beasties, all facing off against each other. You could even recreate in fighting game form iconic scenarios like Kirk convincing a computer to self destruct. Add exciting arenas based on classic episodes and you’ve got a niche, nerdy hit on your hands.

Craig

Not gonna lie. I felt cringey typing IP.

Also I cannot gush about LI Gaming Expo enough. Great venue.

Stu, when the seagulls attacked you, did you run so far away? I’ll see myself out.

QotM #1: I realize this may be niche, but I would want a fighting game based on the works of Horror Master John Carpenter. Who wouldn't want to see Halloween's Michael Myers facing off against the mystical powers of Big Trouble In Little China's Lo-Pan? Or Snake Plissken going toe-to-toe with The Thing wearing helicopter pilot MacReady as a skin suit? Or "Rowdy" Roddy Piper muttering "Life's a bitch, and she's back in heat" while firing shot-gun blasts at Christine, the cherry-red 1958 Plymouth Fury? Jeff Bridges as Starman could resurrect characters between bouts with his healing touch, and the final boss could be the King himself, Elvis Presley, from Carpenter's justifiably forgotten made-for-TV biopic. Let's make it in the style of the original MK arcade game. After all, Raiden was based off characters in the aforementioned Big Trouble. Honestly, the more I think about this, the more I wish it was real. QotM #2: 1,816

James Couche

QotM: I would love to see an AKI-style fighting game (think Def Jam: Fight for NY) that's set in the Kowloon walled city. The KWC was a visually striking, lawless place that would meld perfectly with the brutal fighting style that made AKI's games so beloved. The game would have all the standard modes: arcade, versus, training, create-a-fighter. But there would also be a story mode where your character stumbles onto a gang war while hiding from the law in Kowloon. It would take place over 72 hours with multiple endings and tons of possibilities. Basically, Way of the Samurai (PS2) but with more drop kicks and improvised melee weapons.

Multiplayer Dungeon

Woke my girlfriend as I started my day with a podcast about screaming. 10/10

Nuno Amaral

QotM: A fighting game to end all fighting games. A fighting game centered around Game Developers/Designers. Just picture it, Kojima attacks with "Heavy Narrative," Miyamoto counters with "Anti-Narrative." Yuji Naka could fight just like Cody in Street Fighter Alpha 3 costume and all. Gabe Newell starts of strong and then does nothing for the final two rounds. Endless possibilities, endless fun.

We've already recorded our August episode Nuno but thank you for chiming in on this one. - DF
