The Muppets have been with us in some way for 70 years—yes, really—meaning Jim Henson's fuzzy, slightly demented puppet creations essentially grew up alongside the medium of video games. And while turning the Muppets' pun-based humor into an interactive experience went about as well as expected, there's a few notable adaptations that show just how much their creator would have thrived if he lived to see the go-go '90s. On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Drew Mackie (of Gayest Episode Ever and Thrilling Tales of Old Video Games) as the crew assembles to answer that immortal question: "Dad, what's a Muppet?"

Really enjoyed this one. I don't seek out Muppets but if a new movie or show pops up, I'll give it a shot. I feel like it's one of the few franchises that can speak to all ages and didn't have to really change to stay good. You can show those movies to kids of any generation and they'd be entertaining while the adults will still get the warm fuzzies and the more adult jokes.

Enjoyed hearing about the Muppets on here. I highly recommend going back to Muppet Treasure Island. Tim Curry gives just as great a performance in that as Michael Caine did in Christmas Carol. Also need to try out the Electric Mayhem show one of these days.

Loved to hear Henry on the show again! It feels like it’s been forever!

Is the way the narrator says "Pigs in Space" the reason why Jeremy says "in spaaaaace" the same way he does?

I could see a “Muppets World” for Kingdom Hearts 4 as a thing. Sora, Donald, and Goofy with Muppet forms and teaming up with Kermit, Piggy, and more on some sort of adventure. Today’s graphical fidelity could certainly render the felt convincingly (Nintendo has already proven it so with Yoshi Wooly World), along with the flappy mouths for speech.

Finally listened to this. Great episode. I think you guys chose the right games to cover. Although I will say that I enjoyed the cart racer at the time.

Ragdoll Muppets was a thing! We had the LittleBigPlanet 2 GOTY edition, which included a Muppets DLC with a bunch of levels (including a few Pigs in Spaaaaaaace! ones!), costumes, and a bazillion stickers. Definitely worth a YouTube watch, and a trip to the Fandom page just to see the Statler and Waldorf Sackboy costumes.

Bringing up Speedstorm reminds they had a Kermit in that Disney Mirror verse game as a banjo knight.

(I foolishly left a comment before the section about view master was done) we did a Muppets View Master game on hg101 some time last year! It's fun to hear others talk about it! Thank you for the lovely show!
