Jeremy: This week, we have an episode with a difference. This is not simply a complaint session about bad video games. What purpose would that serve anyone? Negativity is easy! Video games are meant to be fun. Why just complain? Instead, our host of esteemed experts (that's myself, Stuart, Diamond, and Kevin) put our heads together to contemplate why the games we hate playing are so dire and how they could have been adjusted to be better. Maybe even good! I will refrain from mentioning the games in question here so that they can be a fun surprise, although I guess it probably somewhat spoils the effect to have their names spelled out in the musical interlude list below. Ah well! Maybe you can file that away to add to your own list of potential improvement suggestions for the "worst podcast description posts you've ever read (and how to save them)" game you make someday in order to bring the circle complete.

Anyway, as the lady says, let's positive thinking!

That art is fucking terrifying. Good work.

Goof episode. Glad the NES Where's Waldo games came up. I got the first of those for Christmas in 1991 (think it was the only video game I got that Christmas) and it was so disappointing that I finished it by the end of that day. There was no way to save that game imo (unlike some other bad games from that era I could think of like Fester's Quest)

why just Spotify?

Fun and engaging episode - would love to listen to a part 2 !

This episode could be improved by admitting that Jaws is fine. The music is great, the minigames are fun, and it looks nice. It just doesn’t really explain what to do an once you do know what to do, the game can be beaten in 20 minutes. But yes please do a part 2.

Doory

This was a fun episode! Please do a part 2

OMG Jeremy... your "Little time, l..i..t..t..l..e money" reference pinged the FF Tactics part of my memory cortex instantaneously, and I immediately knew what you were doing. I just want you to know that, even if somehow nobody else got that reference, it made me lol IRL. Well done 👏

NES X-men was a game that came immediately to mind. A terrible game that could have been saved. I should point out, though, that Uncanny X-men was indeed Marvel's best-selling comic book in 1989, and second only to a movie-boosted Batman across all publishers. (In 1988, when the game was presumably green-lit, Uncanny X-men was #1 overall.) When Jim Lee took over as regular penciler in 1990, he didn't "revive" a struggling comic; he helped an already popular book become even more popular.

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

This has to be my favourite combination of Nauties. (Why yes I am from a Commonwealth country how could you tell?)

Sebastiano Gerace

Sequel! Also Vincent D’Onofrio was robbed of an Oscar nomination for MIB. Cuba Gooding Jr won best supporting actor in 1997 which was a good pick but D’Onofrio should have at least been in the running.

In response to Jeremy’s comments at the end: please DO ever talk about this again! Fun chat, fun crew, and would love to hear more from this group on this topic.

“Worst games” Stuart has to be on this episode… there he is! 😂😂

Tall Rob

Excellent episode! Much more interesting than just slagging games to be contrarian or negative. The fact that some of these games just needed a little more polish or a slight nudge in control schemes to be better shows that you've all put plenty of thought into this idea. Loved it.

JJR

Great episode! I have a big soft spot for bad games. I guess it’s worth mentioning the MiB movie PS1 game is PAL only :(

As requested: yes, I really enjoyed this! I think the focus on how they could be redeemed is really fun and takes it out of the shouting at old games genre!
