I haven’t listened to this one yet, but many games contain a “Training Mode” - hopefully this will be addressed.

Of course this episode arrived during a week where I am particularly salty about the shitty service of the local transit authority (SEPTA).

Talk of the TTC, the Vancouver SkyTrain and Coles Notes make this the best Retronucks ever.

I saw a funny post about this year's Spirit Halloween subway-themed display that said something like "Public transportation. Every American's biggest nightmare."

This was a fun episode! I would put this episode into the category of "let's pick a left-field topic and follow the through line through decades of video games," which I really enjoy. Kevin covered my favorite fun facts about the DC metro, but for the train enthusiasts, I did want to add two things, only one of which is related to video games. I didn't hear it mentioned during the episode, but Transport Tycoon (Deluxe) is one of the greatest transportation/train/business simulations out there. An open source version, OpenTTD, was created by fans many years later, which I highly recommend. Also, for enthusiasts of trains and Japan, I can't recommend enough an NHK World show called Train Cruise. You can watch it for free in HD at NHK's website. Just Google it and watch an episode.

This helps me feel better. My local public transit made a friend of mine 15 minutes late a few times and now he's loudly proclaiming he will not be voting to give it further funding. He wants these trains to burn down and be rebought by some rich person so they can be more like trains in Asia. I hear a lot more transit hate than transit love around here, but I guess the reality is people often hate their public transit if they take it every day

Meant to write it a month ago, but this episode was such a joy! Really some of the best of what Retronauts has to offer--the odd corners of retro gaming hosted by a passionate and informed crew. Here's to a renaissance of train games in 2026...

Listening to this while on the Max in Portland lol. Not quite as glamorous but it gets me to where I need to go. I’m with Nadia, backseat all the way.
