Stuart: I am pathologically obsessed with The Flintstones. I find everything about the show inherently funny. Not the actual comedy—heavens, no. But the concept, the way it’s executed, the character designs, the voice work, it’s all glorious, it’s wonderful. It “rocks”! Get it? Ahhh, ya don’t get it.

This is a fairly old episode that I’ve had in the bank for some time, but isn’t that kind of appropriate for a Flintstones thing? Because they’re old? They’re from the past and such. All your cartoon friends are here. Fred. Barney. Wilma. Betty. Pebbles. Bam-Bam. Dino. The Great Gazoo. All your cartoon favourites, starring in a succession of surprisingly interesting games across a number of systems.

It seemed such a deserving subject, given that Flintstones games are wrapped up in conspicuous rarity on NES, baffling genre confusion on Master System and microcomputers, and genuinely enjoyable quasi-board game action on Super Nintendo. There’s plenty here to dig into—like Fred, as part of his employment at the quarry by Mr. Slate. See? I know my onions. Enjoy!

Time for a Winston break.

Wow, my mic is quite bad in this one - many apologies for that. It sort of benefits my terrible Fred impersonation at the start I suppose. But, yes, apologies.

Regarding the popularity of the Flintstones... it is just a cavemanified parody of The Honeymooners, one of the most popular sitcoms of the previous decade. I think people thought it was funny that they were seeing Ralph and Alice Kramden in the stone age. Then it just became a force unto itself.

It's hilarious that children likely eat Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles with absolutely no knowledge of the characters on the box.

STU CALLED IT THE NOUGHTIES <3 They were followed by the twenteens and now we're in the twenenties.

It’s an episode with John and Thomas, therefore you know it’s going to be a good one.

I feel like John was sick of Stu's shit as soon as he brought up bubsy. That exhale lol.

Super fun episode - more from this bunch, please!

The Flintstones' premise assumes that humans and dinosaurs coexisted, even though dinosaurs died out about 65 million years before humans evolved. You might not appreciate how big a miss this is. The magnitude of this error is on par with believing that Haley Joel Osment was a sedentary agriculturalist who lived 8,000 years ago during the Early-to-Middle Neolithic transition.

Just wanted to say that I really love the episodes with Stu, John and Thomas. The perfect mix of technical, historical and practical discussion between a trio with great chemistry. Always learn of some game that I missed back in the day that I go pick up now. You folks had me hanging on every word of a topic that I don’t really have any interest in. Awesome epi!

Total slander against the Game Gear Mortal Kombat 2, which is way better than the Game Boy version. MK3 is awful on the Game Gear but it was never even remotely finished. It also has playable Goro.

I have a soft spot for Teque and Tiertex. They made a lot of indefensible junk but you could tell when they were really into something and had the time to make it good.
