This patron-requested episode comes to you courtesy of Jeff Vlasek, whose topic suggestion resulted in a conversation that went in some unexpected directions... interesting directions, but not the ones we really anticipated.

Description: Jeremy Parish and Bob Mackey talk to USgamer's Caty McCarthy and Polygon's Matt Leone about modern-day takes on classic series—their history, the best and worst of them, and whether or not they're even necessary.

May I ask where the download link is?

Tim Cooke

yes, doesn't look like the RSS feed has the episode yet

Frank Keller

Show file isn't attached to the post, that's why no feed yet

Good to know it’s not just me who’s not getting the episode to register in my feed. Hope it’s up soon, sounds promising.

Sorry, everyone. First time using the auto-publish feature to set up a post in advance and... there are some kinks in the system.

Man, I gotta step in and defend Ratchet PS4. The first game was fun but it lacked most of the cool stuff associated with the games like weird secrets, evolving weapons, etc. Porting everything that made Tools of Destruction and Up Your Arsenal so engrossing back into the original story was a HUGE improvement IMO

I happily woke up this morning to see a new Retronauts post and was extremely eager to listen to it on my drive to work only to see the file wasn't there and had to spend the entire drive listening to local morning radio and now I feel I want financial compensation. From morning radio, not you guys.

I think the conversation was a fair treatment of the topic. I guess there was a time when the idea of revisiting classic franchises seemed more appealing, especially when their previous versions were less accessible. For me, living in the Disney/Marvel age of entertainment, where IP is run into the ground with rare instances of creative risk, I kind of like the restrained approach. That said, I do appreciate opportunities to revisit games I missed the first time around. But, my preference would be to see more support for re-releases via virtual console and classic compilations than remakes and reboots.

Nothing about the new Mutant Football League? Aw... No one talks about it and its a fun game... T-T

Bionic Commando has the best remake and a great reboot. There I said it. Rearmed is nigh perfect, and the Bionic Commando sequel/reboot on PS3/Xbox 360 is an insane guilty pleasure. It's better than people ever gave it credit for.

This episode is clutch.
