So, it's come to this, has it? The Sony PlayStation has hit the alarming milestone that is its 10-year anniversary. Well, OK, we missed it by a couple of weeks if we're going by the Japanese launch date, but at least we remembered! Unlike a certain someone we could name whose name starts with an S and rhymes with "baloney." But that's OK. Even if its father is cold, distant, and incapable of expression affection for its most gifted child, we know the score—and just to bolster our bonafides, we invited the most outspoken of all Vita lovers: Sandeep Rai, who just wrapped up a successful Kickstarter campaign to complete his comprehensive print retrospective series on the Vita's existence.

Edits by Greg Leahy and charmingly nauseating artwork by Nick Wanserski.

Let us spare a thought for the injustice of Superfrog HD no longer being available for sale on the PSN (I re-downloaded it as soon as it was mentioned in this episode and will dutifully play it all weekend in fond memory).

I tried every possible configuration for PS Vita remote play, and simply could not get anything close to decent performance. As a control experiment, I finally hardwired my PS4 to my gigabit router, and tested on my smartphone. When this did not give me any improvement, I finally concluded it must be something with the PS4 hardware itself. I didn't really even need this feature that much, but it became a quixotic quest for me over time. Still love the Vita. As good as the Switch is, it's nearly twice as heavy as Vita and 3DS. Steam Deck is even heavier. Having such a quality gaming experience in a compact/lightweight package is something I wish Sony never abandoned.

I was literally playing Persona 4 Golden in bed with my Vita when this dropped. I only got my Vita this year so I can have a good portable all-in-one emulator. Good system, but I can't imagine how frustrating this would have been without having it jailbroken when it was being supported by Sony

Fun episode! Another underutilized feature was crossplay, which required you to buy a PS3 and vita copy! I used this a ton when playing Trails of Cold Steel I and II - for a brief (well, a couple hundred hours - long games!) time it really felt like a proto switch as I "switched" between playing on the go and at home on my TV.

I listened to this podcast while playing Persona 5 Royale on my Vita via remote play as God intended. Also - how is the Vita already 10?! This aging thing is no joke... I just got that thing at launch yesterday and now I'm 38 and confused.

Just like with the PSP, I found myself a lot less interested in the Vita's original games and more interested in the PlayStation home console ports. Like Stuart said, though, the Vita was also the best way to play indies pre-Switch. I also feel like the only person in the world who thought that PSP games looked worse on the Vita. I've used both an original OLED version as well as the later model, and PSP games always looked slightly blurry to me. The only times I would use the Vita to play my PSP games were for games like Peace Walker that benefited from the dual analog sticks. PS1 Classics, however, look amazing on the Vita, and it's still my preferred way to play those games.

I bought a Vita TV for $30, thinking it was my opportunity to play games I missed out on and get in some PS1 nostalgia while I'm at it. When I got around to playing it a year or two later I discovered 8 gig memory card included no longer worked! I certainly wasn't going to pay the exorbitant prices for other memory cards, so that left me with 1 gig or so of on-board memory. And that worked fine until it kept giving me weird errors when I tried to launch games and I had to delete and redownload them. Then my Final Fantasy IV save file was corrupted. Oh and I learned the Vita TV has connection issues with PS4 controllers after hours of frustration in Klonoa. At this point, hacking the damn thing is the only sensible option.

I bought into the Vita immediately, and even bought a second model and 2 PS Vita TV's, which were on sale at Best Buy for $15. I always thought the Vita was an amazing way to play PSP and Playstation 1 games, because the screen was so small that it hid the worst jaggies. Obviously, there hasn't been anything new for Vita for a while, but I still feel like I go back to it constantly. The biggest tragedy, of course, being the proprietary memory cards... which still plague me to this day. I have hacked my second Vita and everything worked fine, except for the fact that I never got it to recognize third party memory cards. I hate it.
