This week's episode is one of those slightly recursive "documenting the process of documenting game history" episodes, but, hey... stick with what you know, right? I've been wanting to get Richard Moss and Evan Amos on the show for quite a while, since both of them have created some invaluable resources for anyone with an interest in the medium's history. And look, here they are together! At the same time! Talking about what it takes to put together a big ol' book about old video games.

For those curious about their work, you can pick up Evan's The Game Console 2.0 here and the new edition of Richard's The Secret History of Mac Gaming here (or you will be able to soon).

Wonderful interview. It never occurred to me that most Wikipedia console photos are by one person. Also, I want to read the books.

Somewhat on the subject of retro games in print, I vividly remember the first reference that I can recall seeing of the NES in print back in late 1986. Games Magazine had an early review of the then newly released console. The writer basically said to go out and get this thing NOW because the Mario game that came bundled with it was off the hook. The funny thing is that was exactly what I did! I had just graduated from high school and was working fulltime during the summer. I immediately went to Gemco, where I recalled having seen it. I was the only person that I was aware that owned one and introduced the system to many friends and family. I would love to revisit this article; the reviewer was not wrong about that Mario game!

During this episode, Jeremy mentioned work he had done for Next Generation. It would be great to have a full episode devoted to this amazing print magazine. It was unique in that it went beyond game reviews and playing guides and focused primarily on game development and the gaming industry. Some of the issues were beautifully executed, both in content and quality glossy print and paper. I was a subscriber and always read the new edition cover to cover. I was sad to see it go.

Loved this episode! Brought so many memories back. Great guests! I ordered Evan's book and Richard's is on my wishlist. I worked in Mac computer labs in college and even had an original iMac and the preview pages brought back SO many memories. I'm looking forward to hearing more about his upcoming shareware book, too.

Been rushing to catch up with Retronauts lately as I was so far behind. I have somewhat of an obsession with video game history books at the moment from the likes of ReadOnlyMemory, Bitmap Books and Geeks Line to name a few. This was one of my favourite episode so far and would really like to hear more along these lines. Great insight from everyone involved.
