Of all the fighting games Capcom made in the 1990s that didn't involve streets or alphas, DarkStalkers made the biggest splash with its all-monster cast, experimental gameplay mechanics, and exquisite animation. With only three arcade releases (plus two more exclusively in Japan), the series didn't last long, but it left an impression on fans that lasts to this day thanks to DarkStalkers alumni appearing in other titles, not to mention the recent Capcom Fighting Collection which brings all five arcade games to home consoles and PC for the first time.

You couldn't stop Diamond Feit from hosting this episode, welcoming first-time guest Ant from Gaminghell.co.uk (check out their Twitter & Twitch pages) to engage in two hours of DarkTalking about vampires, succubi, Frankensteins, catgirls, samurai, mummies, hopping corpses, fishmen, wolfmen, yetis, beegirls, little girls with guns, and much much more. Step right up and grab your tickets to the Gloomy Puppet Show!

Love this game, I hope they bring it back someday. It seemed like the place that Capcom put all the ideas that were way too weird for Street Fighter.

I remember seeing this game for the first time when my family went to see mouse hunt and thought "they made a game out of that cartoon on Saturdays.

Excellent episode. I still think the roster in Darkstalkers is unsurpassed in fighting games. Also, I like Donovan.

I apologise for being unavailable for this recording so I will place my entire planned contribution here in the comments: Hsien-ko is my waifu

Eyyy - I thought I was the only Hsien-ko fan! Unless you like Chinese horror/monster / wuxia flicks (look up Mr. Vampire 1985 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JojYPtVqfXY ), you won't see characters like this. The tag on her hat is a kind of binding ward to keep vampires down. (You'll see Sailor Mars use a similar thing.) Part of Hsien-ko's lore is that her sister is incarnated as that ward, and of course games like Super Gem Fighter/Puzzle Fighter double down on the cuteness, and draw a little face on it.

This was fantastic fun! Thanks for a great podcast - well done!! :)

Great episode! I've played a lot of Vampire Savior since it was included in the Capcom Fighting Collection. I had no idea they put so much effort into the transformation spells.
