While Bob is busy traveling, the rest of us have decided to get together this weekend and record an episode in which we field questions and comments from you. Yes, YOU. The person reading this post.

It's going to be pretty much a free-for-all! So have a look down the page at the topics Jeremy, Nadia, Diamond, and Stuart have hosted recently for inspirations, or just toss out some sort of random retrogaming-related question for the heck of it. You can post here or send an email to jparish@retronauts.com. We'll most likely be convening Sunday morning Eastern Time, so be sure to pen your vexing inquiries and dazzling observations by then!

Love,

Us

It will never happen because: Capitalism; BUT; In a perfect world; What would be a unifying set of standards you would like to see all game developers sign on to related to game preservation? Examples could include; a Commitment to submit materials associated with development to an agreed upon library/archive - a commitment to hang on to all associated documents for x-years - a commitment to emulation/open source support - a commitment to contract Jeremy Parish and the 'Works' series to capture the history of each game.

What GameCube, Wii U, or 3DS games would the Retronauts crew most like to see ported to the Switch and other modern systems?

Eric Chrisman

What absolutely impossible retro compilation would you like to see happen? (I.e. probably can't happen due to something like licensing issues)

Craig

Your podcast seems to have the momentum of a runaway freight train. Why are you so popular?

Craig

Also, when is the Grandia episode?

Kevin Hardyman

Now that Sonic Frontiers has released, what are Stewart's thoughts on the new game?

Thomas Young

I've noticed that classic pc gaming has gotten short shrift over the years, although Stuart has given the UK micro and Amiga big love. Are we going to see discussion of the US PC side of things? It's a vital part of the story, after all.

Joseph

Hey yall, "Studies" show that kids who grew up with Sonic and Genesis, have a higher chance of experimenting with mind altering substances than kids growing up with Mario and Nintendo. How do you think this came to be in reality? What about Sonic drives humankind to these substances? Do you think with the rise of Sonic in modern pop culture again, we will see an entire new generation of Doob' smokin', Rude Dudes with 'Tude? Thank you, I look forward to your analysis.

Grant Baxter

What new sport, game genre spin-off, or Rabbids-esque crossover would you like to see Mario and friends try next?

Johnny A

What are some games that you loved when they came out that you think held up particularly well over time? And what are games that you loved when they came out that you think have not held up well over time?

blim

I have two questions, and you can disregard the first one: When will you do an OC Remix episode? Wouldn't Virtual Console on PC be a money printing machine?

Scott Schneider

Any interest from the crew in a Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light and Bravely Default episode? The 4 Heroes of Light is now 13 years old (!), but it was "retro" the day it came out. I look at it and its successors as almost an alternate Universe version of what the PlayStation era Final Fantasy games could have been. They are a fascinating line of games with their own strengths and flaws. The games share obvious similarities such as art style and four heroes who always fit the same archetypes. And, each game is based around some twist that subverts the normal story structure, using time travel or some parallel universe trickery to "redo" events.

preppy_prince

If you were given the a blank cheque to make any game you like (or enlist someone to do it for you), what would it be?

Steve Martin

I've been listening to Retronauts since it's beginnings on 1up.com and yet still we have no dedicated Odyssey 2 episode! Folks need to hear about it's unique board game/video game hybrids like their Lord of the Rings knock off, Quest for the Rings, and also its parallel choice (like the Intellivision) to have a pricey add-on for voice synthesis. Now that you've got Kevin Bunch on as an occasional guest, I'm sure it's be a much easier topic to cover.

Mark D Myers

Do you think there's any chance of a retro collection of sega saturn or deamcast games.

RossCoolCat

Retronauts has been my go-to podcast for video game discussion. I always loved the character-centric episodes where they talk about a specific character from a franchise such as Toad and Wario from the Mario universe. Man I cant get over how much I laugh so hard at you guy's Toad impressions. Plus, I love Wario and his legacy. (P.S. don't hesitate to put out a Waluigi one.) Since you have also done podcasts about Moogles and Chocobos, it would be nice to see episodes about specific Sonic the Hedgehog series characters like Tails, Amy, or even Eggman and Rouge, and Blaze too.

vcr_linear

What is your favorite console to USE in the tactile sense, and does this always correlate with build quality?

James Couche

If you could bring back one dormant gameplay style/system (including ones that only appeared once or twice and never caught on) what would it be?

Stephen Faulkner

What is the crew's history with music rhythm games? Did you ever master any of the physical-movement games such as Konami's Dance Dance Revolution? What are some of your favourites games or memories from the genre?

Ethan Fridmanski

What are your recommended/favorite books on video game history? Do you know of a decent bibliography or historiography that documents solid print resources of video game history? I have been re-listening to the podcast a lot the past few months and it has me in the mood to binge read video game history. Not my area of historical expertise and have no clue where to get started. The historical side of games and technology is what keeps me interested in the hobby these days. Your podcast has been invaluable for this! Thanks!

Ryan Hanley

What does the group think the next big innovation in gaming might be?

Wood Duck [Legacy Edition]

I wish I could think of something interesting and insightful but I can't. So here it is - playing the Super Mario 3d collection on Switch I admit BOB WAS RIGHT, SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE IS BAD AND WE WERE JUST DESPERATE FOR GOOD GAMECUBE GAMES.

Drew Kestell

I'd like to know more about our hosts' gaming battlestations. I see what appears to be Jeremy's research station in his YouTube videos.. but I'm curious how you all play games. I assume it's different depending on whether you're playing something for fun or for research, but maybe I'm wrong. Where do you all play games?

VanDiagram

Hello Retronauts! Loved episode 506 about collections. I recently got back into 80s arcade games after playing them on the original hardware and noticing how much better I did. This led me to seek out the collections on PS4 and discover The Namco Collection Archive that showcases the Namcot NES ports along with newly-written retro versions of Pac-Man Championship and the Galaga's sequel, Galpus. Do you know of any other collections or releases that have an extra 'new' game like that? Also, will we ever get an episode on the SNK Ikari Warriors trilogy? Lastly, please pass along my thanks to Benj Edwards - his knowledge of controllers led me to reconsider playing games on their original hardware. Thank you, all!

Dave Dalrymple

Great Performances in Live Action FMV segments in Video Games: who are you nominating for the shortlist?

Andrew

I love Jeremy’s Retronauts Radio episodes (I hope he does them more frequently), I would like to ask which game soundtracks would the crew like to see & hear on vinyl (with an official pressing release)? I would love Nintendo’s soundtracks to get the same live on vinyl that Data Discs has been doing with Sega titles on vinyl. I’ve been a listener since Retronauts 0 video back on the 1up Show, keep up the great work.

Dungeons and Dragons Animated Series is 40 years old this year. Despite plans for a Season 4, the series only made it to 3. D&D owner Wizards of the Coast announced at their recent shareholder meeting that D&D is under monetized. We may finally be able to save those children, or senior citizens depending on how time works in their trapped realm, through the powers of capitalism and corporate greed. What would be your pitch for a video game based on the D&D animated series in the year 2023? The possibilities are endless - A reskin or Shredder’s Revenge treatment of the Capcom AD&D arcade beat ‘em ups, a tactics RPG in the style of Fire Emblem or Shining Force, a PG-13 take on Dragon Age, a Legend of Zelda clone. This may be our last chance to free those kids from the realm of that small, elderly, hair follicle deficient man, the self proclaimed “Dungeon Master”... yikes!

Haitani

Hi everybody! Thanks for all these years of infotainment! I recently found out about the Japanese "Tomy Slimboy", one of the early LCD handhelds. Apparently it was released in the same year as the first Game&Watch devices. Do you think this is a topic worth exploring in an episode? Obscure primordial consoles and handhelds, which *could* have ended up being what Nintendo eventually turned into? Who knows, maybe Gunpei Yokoi actually saw people playing with these and he mistook it with a calculator back then :D Thanks for everything!

Bwo

What's the one series you truly tried getting into but it never did anything for you?

CROWNLESS

Thank you for the years of research and entertainment! Are there any plans, digital and/or physical, where we can view all of the pieces of artwork made for the episodes?

Virtual Balboa

Any plans to cover classic Sports titles? I can't remember a single episode that discussed the history of Tecmo Bowl, 4D Sports Boxing and such. Japanese devs have created just as many sports games as Western devs, if not more. It's not a meathead dude-bro genre the world over.

Michael Thornton

Please force (persuade) Jeremy Parish to talk about Shiren the Wanderer. Would he consider Shiren the Wanderer: The Tower of Fortune and the Dice of Fate (hereinafter referred to as StW:TToFatDoF) to be the best roguelike? What does the series do right/wrong compared to other roguelikes?

Ryan Hynes

Was there ever any particular games that you would've loved to see end up on a compilation, but somehow it just never made it onto one in the end? Like a rare arcade holy grail title, obscure racer or even just one you would think would fit nicely onto a themed compo but was looked over? All my love to the retro crew!

Robbie

What's the best d-pad ever made for a console? Thanks to Mini console madness, I now own more controllers than I thought humanly possible and seek the wisdom of the (not so) ancients.

Guillermo Jiménez

Has the Retronauts Discord changed your approach to the podcast or the way you think about certain topics and subjects in any particular way? Thanks your hard work, really appreciate the show!

Andrew Webb

What are the gangs thoughts on Metroid Dread? Any Metroid ranking hootanannies coming up?

James Krusling

I know you guys weren’t on this one but what are some of your favorite retro collections? I’ve been a fan of them going back to when I was 6 and got Super Mario All-Stars with my Super NES for Christmas, which introduced me to the wonders of actually being able to save in Super Mario Bros. 3 and the absolute punishment that is the Lost Levels (which admittedly I also enjoy). Namco Museum was also really great, mainly because actually exploring a museum in a first person view made it more tactile in a way? And more recently stuff like the first Mega Man Legacy Collection and TMNT Cowabunga Collection have really impressed me, rewind is just a game changer! Just curious which ones really impressed you guys over the years?

littleterr0r

Diamond's comments on the Gaming in the Year 2003 episode made me think, have you guys ever made an episode on GDQ or speedrunning in general, and if you haven't, could you?

El Pescado

I’ve seen some awful original GameBoy had no good games takes lately. Now I’m of the belief that the original GameBoy has some of the greatest games ever created, but I’m a handheld sicko. What are some of everyone’s favorite GameBoy games? On another note, that Metal Gear Hootenanny killed me with the horrendous takes on, arguably the best Metal Gear, Ghost Babel. Does anyone else other than me consider that their favorite Metal Gear?

Lambda

Hi y'all, thanks for the podcastin' What correct opinions did you guys have before they were cool? (eg did any of you see through Bioshock Infinite's hype) What opinions did you have in the past that you consciously consider incorrect, flawed, etc today? (eg were any of you swept up in the fervor of Bioshock Infinite) What are things that you still haven't figured out your opinion on? (eg I still don't know if I like Fable or not) (parentheticals are just examples not necessarily things I would want answered specifically)

Life Patterns

It feels like Retronauts has gone on long enough for people who are now hosting or guesting to have started as fans of the show. I would love to hear from those folks how listening to the podcast informed their relationship with retro gaming, and if or how it affected their career paths in any significant way. Cheers from a long time fan, Retronauts got me throw some pretty dark times in the mid 00’s.

Seán Foley

Phrases such as "We'll keep moving as we're short on time" always intrigue me when, at least theoretically, you could put out a 4 hour episode if you wanted! 😊 Would it be possible to give a high-level overview of how you go about structuring / planning an episode? Is it down to the host themselves or is there a general formula to which you try to adhere? Thanks!

Seán Foley

Also, what do you *really* think of Bob...?
