Gotta go fast, indeed: This very special episode about a very recent video game was scheduled for next week but a behind-the-scenes shakeup pushed it forward. It's like Sonic couldn't wait his turn, that rascal!

Speaking of "waiting," what's all this about a Retronauts episode in 2023 about a video game released in 2022? Was this scheduled for 2032? Did we mix up our years? Not at all, for once host Diamond Feit got sucked into the world of Sonic Frontiers, xe decided it warranted a podcast-length discussion. Turns out when you sit out 3D Sonic games for 25 years, your first outing is a doozy!

Helping Diamond make sense of this wacky world of speedy hedgehogs and fishing cats are Retronauts regular Stuart Gipp and Sonic the Comic the Podcast's Dave Bulmer. Despite Diamond's ambitions to make this an "average" conversation, the length, depth, and overall quality of this programme seems above-average by all measurements. We apologize for the miscalculation.

That thumbnail slaps and I will be genuinely heartbroken if and when it's replaced.

Gotta update that bio Stuart: Hello. I like every videogame (except Sonic Frontiers).

Listen, if you guys want to do a separate series where you run down and discuss all things Sonic with Steward as the host I'm absolutely down. Until then I'll make do with the odd episode here and there.

I love Retronauts, and I love this crew. You all create good retro gaming content. But I have to laugh at yet another Retronauts Sonic-focused pod where at least one of the guests (or hosts!) is lacking in basic experience with the character. This would never ever happen with a Mario pod, but frequently does with Sonic. I'm not asking for Sega fealty; I would just like a Nintendo pod once where someone on the panel says "Zelda? Never played it. Metroid? Kind of a bore. Mario 64? It's okay, I guess."

Great episode! Would love to hear a Sonic deep dive by Stuart!

Me, before listening to the episode: Oh yeah, I hear pretty good things about Sonic Frontiers. Might want to check out a Sonic game for the first time in ages! Me, after listening to the episode: ...Or not. Great episode, though!

Listened to this while working out and I couldn't be prouder.

Now Stuart has referenced Live and Kicking on Retronauts, is a Hugo Retrospective on the cards?

I just finished the game and had a good time, even though I felt I'd seen everything it had to offer by the third island. While you highlighted the challenges that are frustrating, for the most part I found them to be nice diversions from running and bouncing everywhere.

Damb it, I must stop sleeping on episodes that has Dave in them.
