This week I have been doing some basic stuff in TOTDC 2 to get things started: finding/adding some sounds, editing dialogues, fixing minor issues, that sort of thing. It's been a while since I touched TOTDC 2, so I wanted to start with the kind of things that doesn't require much thinking. I also did some boring stuff, like checking the quality difference between setting the images to lossless vs 90% quality (webp format). I honestly couldn't find much of an issue visually, and in some cases the images were 4-5 times smaller in size, so I'll probably continue doing that going forward (I already changed a good chunk of the images to the new quality setting). It might not matter right now, but I am sure it's going to be relevant in the long run, and as I said the quality seemed just fine.

This week I'll be back on Caliross to check what's left to do. I already have a couple of bugfixes (related to the Abyssal), but I do have some content left to address as well, so we'll see how that goes.

The Caliross patch should be out next week, so you can look forward to that. I might also write a bit more about TOTDC 2 next week, to paint a better picture of what the game is going to be like.

Anyway, that's all for now, stay tuned for more! ^_^

Do you think programming will be easier than it was in the early days with RAGS? The original had menus and descriptions everywhere 🤣. I remember when I first got to the shootout scene and the RPG part started with numbers everywhere; it was confusing at first, but I got used to it. You said you were going to use a new engine, but I can't remember if it was Unity or RPGM. I don't know much about engines, but I know that RPGM has newer versions that end in "M" or "Z". Is that right? The new engines allow you to achieve a higher quality in the game. I mention this because, even though I still haven't played Caliross 😅, I remember you saying that the original images are high quality, but the game is only 720p because it's an old engine. Have a great week 🫡!

RAGS was overall simpler, but a bit more limited (although you could still do quite a bit). The new engine for TOTDC 2 will be Ren'Py. The idea is to have a similar experience to the original, with UI that is a bit more streamlined. RPG Maker MZ is currently the latest version, and it's significantly better than the one I used for Caliross (except maybe the sprites/tilesets, which I think are slightly better in the old engine). Yeah, Caliross has a VERY low resolution (544X416), because that's the only resolution RPG Maker VX Ace supported. With MZ, I could do 720p or 1080p (The only reservation I have with going 1080p, would be that the game would also be bigger, due to the size of the assets, and the fact that the maps might look empty with all the extra room on the screen (although maybe that can be "hidden" by using UI elements). Edit: Have a great week as well!

If you've chosen Ren'Py, it no longer matters whether MZ supports 1080p 😁. Ren'Py supports up to 4K resolution, but 1080p should be more than sufficient 👍.
