I was working on TOTDC 2 last week, I have done some tweaks to the UI (experimenting with one of the suggestions from you guys for the maps), updated the Ren'py engine to a more recent version (thankfully nothing broke) and I worked on the galleries (image and replay galleries).

Once again, it's been mostly UI work (adding some categories for the images, changing things so that the UI fits better with the rest of the game, added more images while i was at it, fixed some bugs with the scrolling and a bunch of other minor stuff). I guess I might show it off next time I talk about TOTDC 2, so I can get some opinions (it will also be easier to see what I mean with having it fit the rest).

This week I should work on some Caliross-related stuff, instead (mostly, updating the walkthrough) and getting things ready for the bugfix update. The heat is REALLY starting to get to me, and summer hasn't really arrived yet, but the hot season will come and go this year as well (probably).

Anyway, nothing big on the horizon, but we should be getting more posts this week and the next (both for the post-mortem and updates about TOTDC 2), so there should be something to look forward to.

Until next time! ^_^

When can we expect a beta version of TOTDC 2? The interface seems to improve with each update 🥳👍.

I would like to have a little more content before a public release (ideally, one more quest as well as showing enough of the plot so that the "hook" for the main story is there), but maybe I shouldn't stress the details so much, we'll see. If I just focused on the content, probably 1 or 2 months at most, but it's a bit harder to guess how much time the UI improvements are going to take, because it's a bit "trial and error". For example, spending time to find and adapt new icons, but then once I put them in the game not all of them look as good as I hoped, or maybe I add tooltips and something is wrong (they end up over other UI elements, or the size needs some tweaking).

I forgot to ask: how would you connect the game to the first part? 🤔🤷. Since it's a new engine, loading a save file isn't an option 😅. Would a brief summary of the main plot points suffice? Or will you ask us several questions? Have a nice week 🫡!

Currently, if you finish the first game you get a string you can copy. In TOTDC 2 there is a .txt file where you can paste the string, and the game then reads it and figures out what happened during your playthrough. It's a bit more awkward and laborious than I'd like, but it comes with the territory of bridging two different engines (I wish I had made the string a bit simpler, though). There is also a questionnaire if you want to customize your starting point. I would like to have a summary of the plot of the first game (which could be especially useful for players new to the series), but I haven't written it yet.

Is the first TOTDC on itch.io somewhere?

mdqp

Not on itch.io, but you can find it on a bunch of forums like F95zone, Hypnopics Collective, TFGames... There is also a download link on my blog (buried among a bunch of other links XD): https://mdqpgames.blogspot.com/

Noted, thanks!
