Time flies quickly, it's already 2018. I hope everyone had a nice new year's eve! ^_^

Following up on the polls, I have been working on the jobs available in the game. Specifically, I tackled the bakery store. Now Clark has new looks (including a face during dialogues and a bust), I re-worked how the job progresses (now you can actually say no to Clark, and have a pretty boring job), you can progress further in your "relationship" with him (meaning you can become "sex buddies", basically, and you get a selection of 3 random scenes before the usual work shenanigans happen, and all the new scenes are sexy in nature), and I also gave people a way to earn a bit more through it (if you become more than friends, he pays 70 G all the time, while if you keep some distance you can earn a bit more, but you have to show up everyday, or the raise will reset. You can earn 80 G max this way).

One of the scenes also has illustrations to go with it (more on this when I'll show off this month's art commissions), so overall I think the job is much better now. There are things which I am unsure about, and I'll need your feedback to address. For example, I mentioned the sexy scenes will play out before the usual bakery scenes, but perhaps this makes the job too long, and maybe we should keep the sex scenes and the work separated. I also mentioned how you can say no to Clark, and how the job becomes... Well, boring, maybe we could add a mini-game to make it more interesting and earn more? I assume people will just take on the job which has the more fun content for them, but maybe something extra like this might be what the game needs.

I'll probably try to address the Dragon inn job as a maid next. It does have a fair amount of content, but it might need to be re-organized a bit, and we should get a few follow-up scenes to some of the unfinished encounters.

I also would like to polish up/expand the last quest I added a little bit, because I feel it was a little short. I already have a couple of additions I know I want to make, which should improve the experience/add a couple of puzzles and scenes to the whole thing.

After all this is done, I'll see how much time I have left, and decide on what to work next. There are some other unfinished/unpolished parts in the game:

for example, I blocked the mountain pass in chapter 2, but you can still take the cart to ride between Tarkas and Rahib. This was there mainly to ensure I didn't strand people by mistake, since the content is fairly new and there might be bugs, so I left this as a safety net. I'd like to have ports in the games, so you can sail between east and west, as an expansive but possible way to address this issue if you can't find a merchant pass or other solutions to the closure of the normal route. This of course means having to map at least a port in Rahib, and prepare a new town/city in the eastern area of the continent.

Speaking of which, sooner or later I should expand the map a bit more, maybe this wll be the topic of the next poll!

As you can see there is plenty of stuff to do, you guys should always make sure to remind me if there are glaring, obviously unfinished stuff, since the game is quite big, and I don't play it myself, so such simple things might still slip my mind.

Anyway, thanks for all the support during last year, I hope I at least gave you some enjoyment back with my game, and I hope things will keep getting bigger and better. See you next week! ^_^

Looking forward to the new job scenes! I don't think I'll ever not opt for the "Sex Buddies" option if presented though. ^^; Here's to a fine year of Caliross, happy New Year!

AlwaysGrowing

Personally can't stand anything but F/F. So I'll continue opting out of the bakery. ;o Dunno why, the male figure (other than myself) just turns me off instantly.

Keep up the good work into the near year! The game's come a long way so far, and I'm excited to see it continue to grow.

One job I would love to see is a priestess job for those who picked Santhora's blessing during character creation. I don't think that anyone will like my suggestion for the new year, but I'm gonna give it a try. But before I do... ERICA AS A HYPNOTIZED LINGERIE MODEL! Ahhh... Everything is okay, it's out of my system. Now onto this years new thing. This is related to the Queen of Hearts. Now, as we all know, Erica is being prepped for naught fun at the casino/strip club/brothel. Nothing wrong with that. However, with all the other hypno humping going on, I would offer another suggestion. For that, watch this scene: <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy5THitqPBw" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yy5THitqPBw</a> Now imagine: Erica in that dress, those heels, and with that hair. Come on, you can't tell me that wouldn't turn your crank. The Golden Cup has the classy singer, the Queen of Hearts needs a sexy, sultry one. Have Erica get a few off screen singing lessons, and bang. She headlights at the casino at nights. We could even have her parents walk in on her. And of course once she is done singing, then the customers can pay extra to drag her up to the VIP room. Just a thought.

mdqp

I kind of get it myself, I wasn't too much into "traditional" porn for years, although recently I have started to like it more (especially since I figured I really like the "pregnancy fetish").

mdqp

You know what? Maybe, just maybe we might get something similar to what you want (as in Erica being hypnotized to model stuff), but it's just an early thought so far, so if it happens it will be a while. As for her singing at the QoA, between the waitress job, the future stripper job and whatever I plan to do for the VIP area, adding another activity there might be overkill. Having some NPC do that might be something to think about, though, especially since we already have a piano player.

Don't know. I've been described as "super straight", but even a man standing in the corner of a room (fully clothed) and I am unable to enjoy whatever else is going on. Anyways... Another short list of stuff. (dialogue, I'll save bugs/whatnot for when I feel like I've covered a lot) Dragoon Captured "The pok(é)bottle..." *Wrong direction for the accent. Elaine (Quest accepted) "I hope you'll have fun doing {this little favor for me!}" *Slightly reworded, don't recall what you wrote but it sounded 'rigid' and improper. Cafe Working Desk (After getting fired) "The owner welcomes you with a/n/ hostile look," *a hostile look "You wonder what exactly /did/ they (told) her you did," *Removed "did", past tense of "tell" --> "told" Possible option: "You wonder, what exactly did they tell her, about what you have done." Temple Scene (Tarkas Slums) "Wow! I wasn't expecting to find /such/ a temple in a place like this!" *The word "such" has no descriptor. EG. "such an ancient temple in a place like this!", "such" on its own makes little sense here. You can simply remove the word or add an adjective. "yet it's in pristine condition/s/," *condition isn't plural Poor Lodging (Tarkas Slums) - Young Man "you wouldn't think someone so old could be so energic!" *"energic" isn't a real word. (Energetic?) Suggestions: Strict, Stern, Fierce. **So I looked up "energic" and some dictionaries have it while others don't, even google suggests "energetic" and spellcheck does not have "energic". So it is likely a relatively new word. Do with that what you will. Burly Guy (Tarkas Slums) "Since all you want is (to) get stuffed with cock," *Added "to" since the sentence was disjoint/improper otherwise. After all of this I'm starting to remember how complicated English can get sometimes! Edit: Was second-guessing myself on a piece of grammar. Edit2: The temple scenario depends on more context. "Such a man." means nothing on its own, but if you state, "Honor, Bravery, Strength. I could adore such a man." It makes complete sense.

mdqp

As I said, I kind of get that, it's been very similar for me for years. :) I have fixed most of the typos/grammar mistakes you pointed out, but I wasn't sure about the one in the slums (temple. When I use "such", I used it to mean "this kind of" temple, as in, she isn't surprised that a temple is there, but that a temple of that kind was in the slums (without specifying what kind it is to the players). Should I remove "such" regardless? What should I substitute it with?

AlwaysGrowing

You can leave it, sorry. I had some difficulty thinking about it myself. Depending on what you want the statement to imply. *While I have mention it needed "context" (in my "Edit2:") that context can still be the visual the player sees when entering the temple.

mdqp

No need to say sorry, you are helping me, and it was a bit ambiguous, so it's no surprise you couldn't be sure of how to interpret it. I am also not a native english speaker, so certain habits from my language can show up and make things worse.

Gonna add my own idea/theme suggestion. An old woman/hag (Made to look ugly, perhaps a little bit rude at first due to harsh living conditions). Tasks the player with seemingly mundane/tedious activities with small rewards (10g/5g). Should the player continue helping her she begins to look slightly more youthful/healthy though still quite old and ragged. Rewards somewhat improved (potion or similar, perhaps 50g+ or a similar amount to an actual job). If the player still has the time and patience to offer her assistance her overall 'appearance' improves, etc. until she eventually becomes a 'stunning beauty' of sorts. Elegant, Graceful, Charming. Shows great appreciation for what you've done. *Other notes* Location: Likely in a more rural or barren area with few people. Possibly a poor town. Distant from any major cities. Appearance (Before): Old/ragged, White hair, somewhat hunchback, partially torn clothes. Appearance (After): Vibrant pink hair. (<a href="https://tinyurl.com/yd3sde9n)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://tinyurl.com/yd3sde9n)</a> Perhaps a stronger/darker 'pink'. Regal, though somewhat revealing, clothing. Features: 'Chapter System' that you have been working on. Starting in an early chapter, her improvements should alter after completing all of her tasks and once the associated chapter is completed. (I'm under the impression you will have roughly 5 chapters) After Completing All Steps:* Story: Young enchantress was cursed by some corrupted 'shapeshifter' magic. (not actual shapeshifters but a dark form based off of their magic). Has no memory of this 'curse' or what her real life was until she is fully reverted to her former self. Choices: Upon being fully restored, potential options may be: -The enchantress is so grateful she becomes your willing lover and moves in with you. -She moves to Tarkas (possibly in the house where the guy is looking to sell for 5000g) and becomes a close friend (and sex buddy). Perhaps spending nights at the Queen of Hearts (as a guest, not an employee). -Becomes a willing slave and moves in with you. (Believing she owes you her life, though I don't know how much room you have for more potential 'slaves') *Keep in mind these are just a few suggestions and you may do whatever it is you want with the character depending on how you want it to fit into the game.

AlwaysGrowing

changed my patreon name... (no need for people to know my real name, is there? :P)

mdqp

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't mind having some kind of "Sorceress" figure in the game, I think it will all depend on the tasks and how we are going to lift the curse (there should probably be a reason why performing the task is breaking the curse, especially if she has no memory of the curse and so she can't be planning to remove it).

AlwaysGrowing

Yeah, well I didn't go too in-depth in a little blurb, but its good to know you understand how storytelling works. Because of that I originally thought it would be that she doesn't have the ability to attempt to communicate her curse in anyway. I guess I thought that felt too specific.

mdqp

Well, it's a standard idea in stories, being forced into a bad situation while unable to tell anyone about it (curses in fantasy settings definitely use this idea as well). I would probably not extend the the "old lady" part through all the chapters, so we can have time to enjoy a rejuvenated sorceress as well. I am sure we'll have plenty of settings which might fit the bill, hopefully I'll be able to find the time to squeeze her in somewhere.

AlwaysGrowing

Yeah. What I thought of for the player was a scenario where there is someone you can choose to assist, but the 'rewards' are clearly NOT worth it. Making it seem like a waste of time more-or-less. I also thought the curse being based on Shapeshifter magic could find a way to tie into the world, including certain questions. How has this 'corrupt' magic affected shapeshifters? Is it part of why they disappeared? How did they develop this magic as non-shapeshifters? Were there 'evil' or corrupted shapeshifters? etc. I felt the 'memory' loss was best as the intent for this character was to 'seem' like a waste of time. Something easily overlooked. If the character was able to talk about how they were 'cursed' that may offer a lead for the player as a potential long-term reward. The idea being that the player should not know that there even is any reward for the continued aid. (Though I guess I would know though. :P) But this just results in further questions. How was she cursed and who cursed her? What about your tasks helps undo the curse? Why would Erica help her? etc. Anyways, if that is something you wish to use at some point, feel free. *I know she shouldn't be 'old' forever but I felt at least 2-chapters of looking like a useless and 'unrewarding' NPC would be enough. Beyond that it should be clear that there is more to it than that.

mdqp

The lore for Shapeshifters is already established (even if I haven't added it to the game so far XD), but I can think of a few ways to link this to it, possibly. There might be issues as well, though, so I'll have to think about it carefully. Well, no matter how trivial a task might seem, if it's in the game, players will try it, so I wouldn't be worried too much about it being a secret. If the developer took time to put it in the game, usually it's either supposed to be fun or rewarding, after all. Yeah, the memory loss is a fine tool to get the ball rolling. Eventually I'll have to address at least some of the curse's origin, so that people get their payoff story-wise, but this will change a lot depending on whether I want to tie it to Shapeshifters or not (there are a few plot reasons that might make it more of a hassle to explain, if I do). Yeah, 2 chapters sounds like a reasonable time frame for this. :)

AlwaysGrowing

Yeah, fair point. Unless you made a lot of random 'useless' NPCs to condition the player into expecting more 'useless' NPCs the player would at least figure out that there is 'some reason for this'. To that end the entire 'memory loss' plot-point is moot. Which may lead to other ideas for why you encounter/help her. (Perhaps she is in a home not visible to people and can not be known without 'detect magic' to figure out that it is there, and can only be accessed by shapeshifters, similar to the temples.) Which would lead her to asking for your assistance in freeing her as she is trapped inside, with her reverting to her former self as the curse weakens. And I don't know what that shapeshifter lore is, so I guess I can only guess/assume based on what else I've witnessed. So modify the idea if you need to if it doesn't fit.

mdqp

It's usually fairly easy to give hints to people. Just using portraits vs not using them is enough to mark certain NPCs. Tying them to any optional activity is big enough people will want to see where things go. The memory loss can still be fine with her asking you help on bizzarre tasks and when asking her why she would possibly need that, she would reply with a confused "I don't remember" masking the curse with senility at first (it could also be played up for laughs). She would remember more as the curse weakens, so we can still get the info we need on the situation as we progress. Don't worry, I am not asking you to handle a lore you don't know, I just mentioned because I might have to change that part even if I follow your suggestion, I figured I should let you know. :)

Donastray

An alternative for the backstory - some enchantress is trying to use/access shapeshifting magic, but her experiment is interrupted by her assistant, whom she knows in in love with her, and who has finally gotten up the nerve to tell her. Enchantress cruelly refuses the the assistant, mocking them for their love, and explains that the enchantress was just using the assistant as free labor, trading on their infatuation; now "gtfo I am about to succeed in my quest!" and she succeeded alright...in opening a divine connection to the shifter deity. who listened to all this, and is disgusted by the Enchantresses actions. So, she wants to change forms? be old then! You acting kindly towards her, and having that kindness returned, is the action the deity set to break the curse. Sort of a beauty and the beast deal. Being a Shifter yourself just means the process is faster, since the deity can listen in through you. or something XD

mdqp

This is something worth considering. :) I think the idea of an angry assistant could work, although I am not sure if I want to make the Sorceress an ambiguous figure (considering the reward will likely be becoming her friend, maybe it would work better to keep her figure mostly good or neutral). As for the shifter's goddess... She is a secret for now. ;p
