Weekly dev blog: A game of dice (Patreon)

So, this week I took care of testing for the new temple, which lead to fixing several bugs, as well as improving some of the content (thanks to the testers ^_^). There is still some stuff to control, but I believe this is already pretty nice! I also worked on the gambling den more: Gaspar will re-appear here, and he'll be the one to introduce you to the den.

I have the mechanics ready for a simple dice game, and I am considering what else to add (feel free to make suggestions!). The NPCs are mostly finished, and soon I'll be able to focus on the consequences of getting in debt here (which can also end up in slavery for you).

Hopefully next week I'll have a release ready, but for now this is all. Look forward to it, and see you next time! ^_^

If you want to keep the gambling games fairly simple, you could do a basic blackjack game

An easy high or low game would work. Draw a card, pick if you think the next card drawn will be higher or lower. If you are right you either get double your bet money, or you can guess again with the new card to double it again. If the house wants to be mean, they can force you to lose if you draw a card of equal value.

I'll have to look up the modified version of that game I ran into in a movie. Short version winner of the previous round can pick if the "winner" is the one that's higher or lower than the other in the following round. Turns it into a bit of a psycological warfare game. There was something about the betting as well but I can't remember.

1 vs 1 blackjack is pretty easy to make, true. Heck, I am sure there is a script already prepared for this... Yup, there is one, so I'll probably add it to the game, seems appropriate. ^_^

Is the slavery going to be a bad end, or playable?

It should be both. Giving the player a chance to get back to a normal playthrough might be awkward (I can't imagine how to get out of slavery, unless your master is a nice person), but I'll give players things to do when they are enslaved. You might be traded off as well, so hopefully it will keep things interesting.

He picks after checking his own cards in the following round. The first round I believe was played just high/low with the winner being the higher card then the deck. Let me go rewatch it.... Kakegurui is the anime. Oops, I got that wrong. The orginal game is a modified version of poker. You are given 5 cards, Whoever bets the most determines if the winning hand is higher or lower. Ergo, if it's higher normal poker rules apply. If it's lower, the hands values are reversed. In lower a hand of nothing would beat a royal straight flush. Additionally you can only bet or raise. Though my other idea would work as well. :P That's a good anime if you want unusual betting games, and it's on netflix.

I think I know that game! I played it myself (or a very similar version), actually, but it might be too complicated for a simple side-activity in my game. I also need to make sure players don't have it too easy (although being a gambling den, they might cheat anyway :^).

Do you make the chin-chinorin dice game ? like Suikoden 2 ?

You mean the one where you can roll 3 dice up to 3 times, and you need to get two of the same number to have a possibility to score (simplifying it a lot for brevity)? It's probably a bit too late to start adding that in (it's not overly complicated, but it has a lot of specific exceptions). Maybe I can do it in the future, however.

I hadn't thought about it (I was just thinking of you getting a different owner depending on how you had become a slave), but that's probably a good idea. I'll have to figure out how that would work, however.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but seemed the most active. I'm a bit stuck at the noble kidnapping quest, i've been to the inn and gotten a clue to look for a bald man with a tattoo but i can't seem to find anyone who matches that description. Any hints for a poor historian?

Let's see: they told you he was supposed to meet someone, but he never showed up. Still, it might be worth talking to that person anyway. She is a stripper at the Queen of Hearts.

Well why not make a possibility to be a willing slave in the slave merchant in Rabib ? ( And be auctioned of course )

I think you meant to reply to another comment, but anyway I'd like to have a reason for becoming a slave (debt, being forced by criminals, breaking the law in some way, etc), rather than just offering making it possible from the beginning.

Maybe a slave troyan horse if you buy it, it's a slave hunter and force you to become a slave and you finish poor and , of course, enslaved ... It's a good way for be slave with this story line ?

how do i get my inhibitions/willpower/intelligence up/down

A lot of events/jobs can lower your inhibitions/intelligence and willpower here and there. Inhibitions can't be risen at the moment, you can raise your willpower by training at the bazaar (you need to reach the max health bonus, first) and you can study at the mage guild library to recover intelligence. There will be more ways in the future, but for now this is about it.

well there is the non legit way of using the travel sphere and talking to the object in the top right corner in the debug room it sends you to, but as I said thats non legit :P
