"It took us a while to settle on how the Chimera would work. They went through several design concepts, until we realized that it just wasn't going to be possible to make someone who was both a femme-boy and a masc-girl. After all, those arent exactly androgynous so much as presenting as a different gender than they identify . We instead decided to make the Chimera a shapeshifter, still very cute and androgynous, but with the ability to shift into the form best suited for their partner."

FearTheDee

woah that is quite beautiful.. handsome? eh whatever its both lol

Gystes

So basically a monster purely for straight players. Not like I didn't see this coming.

Conter

Considering chimera needs to be able to breed, it's only natural since there is not enough funding (and wouldn't be fair for Chimera to get 4 scenes, same reason demon didn't get for despite having two forms). Heath mentioned chimera getting gay versions if genderbends are voted in.

Sleepnir

lol what are you talking about? If it's a shapeshifter, you can have it be whatever gender you want. i.e., male if you're male and want gay stuff. Bizarre complaint dude.

Conter

I'm sure he's more mad that Chimera got 'straight scenes' instead of gay ones. Thus being more for 'straight' players since Chimera is taking up a 'male' monster spot.

Gystes

Wow, I got replies far faster than anticipated. As for the replies: I’m not mad at this. As I stated previously, I saw this coming. Maybe I’m slightly disappointed but my expectations in regards to this particular monster were low from the get go. Though I will admit that gay men overall didn’t lose too much this round. I do feel bad for my gay sisters however. In regards to adding scenes for genderbend; No. Just add Golem into the game as a counterpart. I don't want to deal with this again. As for, "It's only natural," I don't agree with that. There were ways to have sex scenes with the player that did not involve giving Chimera visible sex organs. They simply chose to go about it in an uncreative way.

Dream Tree

As a gay sister, I'm not...entirely sure how gay women lose out more than gay men? Tbh since it took up a male monster slot, gay women aren't losing out anymore than they would be before. Honestly tho, I can get how people can think chimera is mainly for straight players (especially if they saw previous information that chimera only had straight sex as they were the ultimate breeder, which thankfully changed). But I like the compromise that chimera, a powerful end game monster, can breed with anyone, and I understand that chimera couldn't have been an easy monster to figure out.

Conter

Yeah, I had a huge reply to this but it seems patreon kinda F'ed it up and deleted it. Well there goes my giant 'why they made chimera a shapeshifter' reply :/ Unless it suddenly pops up. I see the 'load 1 reply' but it wont come up lol

Dream Tree

haha, well I see your comment now. Before I only saw 'Load 1 Reply' but it didn't do anything :p

Dream Tree

In fairness to Gyste, there was some information before that said this wasn't true, but it appears to have been changed.

Gystes

It's a good thing I can see that post via E-mail. When I said that lesbians lost this round, I was purely speaking about the animations. As a gay man I am quite aware that we lost more overall if more monster content is not added. The reason I'm not a fan of adding 'gay' Chimera content is because I can only see it giving minimum benefits while causing complaints. It also makes Team Nimbus look lazy because, as you said, it's only requires them to make 2 additional animations whereas all the other gender-bends actually requires the creation of battle animations and such. I also don't agree with the notion that you had to show the genitals for the scenes to work. Heck, had Chimera's male animation looked a little less vaginal I'd have had no issues with it. Tail peg would have worked with for the female animations as well.

Dream Tree

I'm sorry, I still don't understand the lesbian point. Could you explain a bit more? Not trying to attack you or anything, I do genuinely want to understand what you mean. Also, I disagree about it making them look lazy because they won't have to make battle animations. After all, for all the other genderbends, they can always reuse parts of the original battle animations to make the new ones, just needing to use a different sprite. It's a time/effort saver. And I think most people really care about the sex animations, where chimera would get an extra two just like every other monster, it just wouldn't have new sprites/portraits, simply because there's no need. It'd save time and energy and enable them to work on the next aspect of the game. The main complaints I could see are people mad that chimera would only get gay animations added, but c'est la vie.

Conter

Ah okay that's cool. Don't know why patreon hide it tho? The lesbian thing still doesn't make sense. They didn't lose anything. Chimera was the male choice, thus even if chimera was all male nothing would have change for people who are into lesbians. They still have 5 female monsters, none have been removed. How does it seem lazy? Like I said Golem wasn't even voted for, and they only have one animator. And if people vote for genderswaps, well, wouldn't it be completely unfair to say 'oh chimera won't get one, we're gonna give you a monster you didn't even vote for instead'. To you it might not be lazy to add in a new monster and new animations, but it's certainly a rude gesture to those who actually like chimera and voted it in. They would lose out on what they paid to vote for. You might not have agreed, but MANY others did which was why the shapeshifter was chosen. It's to appease as many as they could, not just a few.

PervMASTER

Cool. Alright face but I bet that black ass with big tits will look fucking sexy!

Dream Tree

I believe on the HWYM blog QC was able to snag a screenie of a thicc chimera, showing off their shapeshifting abilities~~

noeinan

So excited for the chimera! I had some questions that I've been itching to ask since folks started talking about it a lot on the HWYM blog. If possible, I would love to get an answer on these! (I wanted to ask on the stream, but I always worry about derailing if I go on there and ask questions about something that isn't currently being drawn.) So, it was mentioned earlier that chimera was created to be the best possible breeder, and that there aren't same-sex scenes because the chimera is concentrated on fertility and "wouldn't allow that". (So the chimera will transform in order to make a heterosexual match with their partner.) This led me to wonder, is this transformation a conscious decision? Or is it instinctive? If it's conscious, then do chimera not have sex for pleasure? Like, if it's a conscious choice, you would think they would be able to choose to have non-reproductive sex just because it feels good, to please their partner, or whatever reason. If they *can't* or *won't* choose this, my question is why? Like, are they just really turned on by the concept of pregnancy, like a fetish, and aren't interested if there is no reproduction involved? If it's instinctive, what triggers that change? Is it triggered by their partner's sex hormones, or do they have some mystical/handwaved scientific way of "sensing* the other person's fertility? In either of these cases, penis-penis and vagina-vagina sex scenes could totally be possible, especially if you take trans people into consideration. For example, if the chimera were with a trans guy who was on HRT and the shapeshifting is hormonally triggered, then the chimera would shift to having a vagina. (And if the trans guy hasn't modified his genitals, he would have one too, creating a vagina-vagina sex scene.) (Which actually leads me to an entirely different question, about if there are physical transition options for trans people in this world different from our own? Like if a trans guy could get a penis through some kind of magic instead of surgery. But that's an aside.) If it was fertility based, and the trans guy still had his original plumbing, and his eggs were still viable, then the chimera would shift to have a penis. But the fertility-based instincutal transformation leads to another set of questions... First, what would happen if the chimera ran into a sexual partner who was infertile for whatever reason? Would their body just not react? Also, let's say there was a monster race with only one sex, and each individual has both eggs and sperm, similar to slugs. Would the chimera shift to have similar physiology with them, to maximize fertility and go for a double pregnancy?

Gystes

Okay when I was talking about the Chimera x fmc animation, I was JUST referring to the animation itself, not the spot in the 'male' category it took. For the Chimera x mmc animation you can sort of ignore that it's vaginal. Chimera's maleness in the fmc animation is right in your face. I also didn't realize that there was a poll/survey that was dedicated to finding out what popular opinion on this topic was. I wonder why I didn't get an update about it. Or why this post made it sound like it was a completely internal decision.

Dream Tree

Ah, now I see what you mean. The chimeraxEvan animation looked very much like a vaginal animation to me (due to the position) so I didn't make the connection. Still, I wouldn't say gay ladies are losing out more, again since it'd just be a straight animation anyway if a male monster was picked. We're really just in the same boat as we would have been if a male monster had been chosen. And there was a lot of discussion on the Patreon about chimera, with many people writing in what they wanted/didn't want/other suggestions. It wasn't really announced, just something you might've seen. And at the end of the day they were all just opinions, the team made the final decision, but I'm sure they did listen to them since originally they were going to go the 'hide the genitals/what's going on route'.

Conter

Okay, sorry, I still don't see how the Evan/Chimera's genitals being 'ignorable' means lesbians lose out due to the dick in the Eve one. Like, the vag in the Evan one is right in your face too... And yeah, when chimera was first chosen people were asking/discussing how they would work in the posts. And when Heath posted up the option to 'hide' the genitals people flocked to saying no. He brought up a few more and probably discussed with the group what would be the best corse of action based on the posts afterward. Shapeshifter wasn't an option he gave that in feed (if I recall correctly) but it seemed the team felt it was the right choice given the replies, that may be why it's worded as a more 'internal decision'.

CloudMeadow

When Genderflips or alternate sex scenes are voted in then there'll be gay versions added. ~JH

CloudMeadow

Something to bring up, if you guys see something stated anywhere except actually in the game? Then it's not fully decided upon. Anything tagged "Art" is preliminary thoughts, not final canon, and anything stated in the stream chats should be considered full on fuzzy-canon until it's actually made actionable in the game. A lot of stuff is going to change between now and the final launch.

Foxy Paladin

We definitely do listen to our audience. The decision was a tough one with a lot of consideration based on feedback. Our decision was to go with what majority of people wanted for the Chimera and went from there. That would be why it's worded as an internal decision. As for lazy, regardless of what direction we decided to go in, the amount of effort put into it would be the same. With us limited to one animator now, adding any other animations would put more work on Diesel than necessary. I can, however, understand your position.

Foxy Paladin

I'm getting some more intel on this. I'll get back to you on answering your question the best I can.

Vinick

The only thing that really bothers me with this, is that it appears that there won't be a 50/50 split anymore. Or at least not until genderbent and alternative scenes are added. Of course I'm not going to stop supporting, as I don't know exactly what the plans are, may be surprised later, and want to see this game succeed. However, this is one of the only games that would appeal to both sides of my sexuality, and this is making me somewhat cautious about future scenes. I appreciate the hard work going into the game though, and look forward to the future development plans, both for the adult content, and the gameplay content.

Gystes

Okay, I need to apologize here. It was not my intention to imply that any member of cloud meadow was being lazy. I know full well that the people creating this game are putting a great deal of effort into it. My comment was more aimed at how some may perceive the additional animations for Chimera months down the road. I am somewhat confused about the diesel part of your comment though. I never stated anything about additional animations so I'm not 100% sure why this came up. Or are we talking about the battle sprites for the potential future monsters?

CloudMeadow

Understandibly so. It'll only be balanced out when more stuff is voted on, but chances are, it's going to be genderswaps voted for. It'll happen eventually, that's the best I can say really. It all depends on resources and direction.

CloudMeadow

There's a lot of discussion we've noticed on gender issues and some statements made on the picarto that were based around miscommunications both internally and externally. In our lore, Chimera were made to be the ultimate breeding machines by ancient Wizards, to repopulate devastated monster groups. However, their transformations have far more to do with getting a partner to accept and like them, than making babies. The advantage of making babies is a happy side effect. Equally important is the difference between Feral and Domestic Monsters. Feral Monsters, those you meet in the wild for example, are saturated with magic and driven mad by it. They are not sapient, though they are sentient. Those chimeras are entirely driven by instinct, and with that, they can't control their gender transformation. Domestic Chimera change to best suit their chosen partner, so a Chimera that has chosen a lesbian as a partner is probably going to take on a female form, unless by some disaster they're oversaturated with magic and goes feral. In this case, they're more likely to kill than mate with their partner as ferals see all other creatures besides their own species as threats. We hope this clears any confusion. ~JH

Vinick

Thank you for the reply, and the information. I appreciate knowing that it's still planned to be 50/50.

Afflickted

As a pansexual, I support everything you guys do. I think a lot of people think too much into gender/sexuality. In the end it comes down to the fact that straight sex has to be the most represented aspect for breeding reasons. Everything else is an awesome bonus. I do love my androgynous creatures and traps though.

Zeph

I'm just over here ecstatic that this is the closest to trans this appears to be getting.

Pinpenny the great lithian

Nice! Though the tiny in-game avatars of the chimera make it look like a trench coat flasher. I like to think this is intentional and raised more than a few giggles in the team Cheers!

noeinan

Straight sex =/= reproductive sex Ex: cis gay man + trans man (reproductive + gay) cis bi woman + AMAB enby (reproductive + queer) cis straight man + trans woman (non-reproductive + straight)

noeinan

Okay, just because the difference isn't important to you doesn't mean it's not important to other people. As a trans person, it is important to *me* that reproductive sex isn't treated as the same thing as heterosexual sex. As an issue of personal taste and investment, it's important to me that trans folks get acknowledged outside of the very narrow and often physically impossible fetish stereotypes. (Ex. we can be catered to as consumers of porn instead of only ever being subjects of porn made for cis folks.) Obviously, gender/sexuality topics are important to other people, and we are also fans and patrons of the game, so our opinions also matter. People asking questions and caring about these things isn't about being pedantic out of spite, but because we value and care about different things than you do.
