Alan requested when Hunter's Dad proposed to his Mom. It was literally staged.  

Hunter's Dad had a friend performing in the play who helped set it up - the friend asked for "volunteers" to come on stage from the audience before the show started. Once on stage, he explained one of the themes of the play was love, and asked the couple to each explain what they thought true love was. While she was trying to think of an answer, he knelt down and pulled out the ring.
