Sketchbook Diaries - Happy Independence Day! (and End of June!) (Patreon)
Content
Independence Day is not my favorite holiday, (that would be Free Comic Book Day,) but it's getting higher on my list of favorites each year.I think it's because after a month of mourning and melancholy, suddenly every American is outside to play. There's delicious food everywhere. Parades fill the streets in the day, fireworks fill the sky at night. Independence Day is a celebration of our country, remembering those who've served and sacrificed for it. But when I'm watching our city councilman body surf on a Jeep because someone forgot to decorate said vehicle for the town parade, part of my brain is cheering: "You did it! You got through another June! And this sight was TOTALLY worth it!"This year, while navigating around hot dogs, star-spangled children, and restored vintage cars, I brought my along my sketchbook and pencils to capture some of the sights, so you guys can enjoy them! None are of Body Surfing Jeep Councilman, unfortunately. Turns out it's hard to draw while cackling.A lot has happened lately that can make it hard to celebrate our nation. But regardless of where you live, the people who work together to help make your home, your neighborhood, your community a better place - they and their sacrifices are always worth celebrating.
