We're finally watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! A lot of y'all warned me how dated the first season would feel, but I have to say I had SO much fun with this first episode. It felt dated in the most nostalgic way to this almost zillenial haha. So excited to watch more episodes next week!

I hope you are watching the DVD's as the Disney/Hulu versions contain edits and will not sync well with the full/original versions

good point... trying to watch another reactor who was using the edited Disney stream version, while I watched along with the DVD version was a pain.

If they'd do that Sunnydale High would be lucky to get 12 days of school a year...😆 The series also sort of recognizes the movie as canon, so that's why we don't get the whole becoming the slayer part her. Which I'd say was smart as it was such a comon thing in the 90s for series based on films just to rehash the film in the pilot episode...

Yep it's nearly 3 seconds faster per minute than the DVDs even though it's the same scenes. Guess I'll have to fetch a WEB version.

Season 1...is almost hard to watch, it's so 1997. But, holy crap, I love this stupid show. And it just gets better. I'm here for the ride. Good shit.

If you can provide a bit of time to resync after each of the commercial break splice points, that would be handy for helping to stay in sync with versions from other sources.

The casting, the effects, the THEME SONG?? All perfect 10s across the board! This is almost as big and when she watched lord of the rings or Star Wars like this is GENERATIONALLL (“once in a generation” you might say) I’m so excited 😭 I was also a young 90s babe who watched this with my mum and sister growing up 🥹 and rewatched many a time since And only season 1 is dated thank you 😅 still peak tho Like this is a pilot for the history books. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anthony Stewart Head work so well off each other, their first scene in the library great Hearing the names Buffy and Angel on this channel oof 😭 I’ve been waiting so long (Okay maybe not ALL the effects 😅)

Another thing I love about Buffy is that she’s soooo powerful and badass without sacrificing any of her femininity. Sure we’ve had Sarah Connor and the like with the vests and muscles and stone face expression (which I love) but something about Buffy ripping a door off its hinges and then toddling inside like she’s worried she’s gonna step in some gum is just peak to me 🫶🏼

season 1 was a midseason replacement for another show so its the shortest season at 12 epsiodes and some of the weakest episodes of the whole show are in this season but after it finds its feet towards the end of this season going into season 2 onwards its some of the best tv ive ever seen.

Believe it or not as great as Buffy is the Spin off series is even better but that doesn't get set up until after season 3. im beyond pissed the sequel series was scraped

The Slayer basically has superpowers - she’s super strong, faster, more agile and has very vague minor prophetic powers (mostly dream) The series is a loose continuation of the 1992 Buffy movie starring Kristy Swanson. That’s where you see her first become the Slayer and at the end, spoilers, she burns down the school gym lol

This actually aired as a single 2 hour episode on a single night so the first two episodes are really one episode. Also, the name "Buffy" was picked because Joss Whedon thought it was the silliest girl name he could come up with and wanted a name that would contrast with the character's level of importance in the story.

The reports of what the new series was going to be made it look awful. Like, just everything wrong with modern writing and it was going to be more like the Star Wars sequels instead of something more akin to Cobra Kai. A sequel series made by the creators of Cobra Kai would probably be great.

Mainly some scenes cut short, some jokes cut out. It's hard to notice unless you are watching side by side and then realize that your are a minute or two off sync.

I was 14 when this series started and watched it when it aired. I can guarantee, though, that we most definitely would have said “Morbid much?” This is going to be fun.

You're definitely going into this series with the right attitude. Buffy is very campy especially in the early seasons.

Apparently it was one executive that made the call. Rather than rework the pilot which happens all the time, the original Pilot for Game of Thrones was apparently unwatchable hence why it’s never been released in full, even if some of the footage was reused in the actual first episode. They could’ve reworked the pilot hell with Daredevil Born again they reworked half the first season. Sarah was excited for it and she had spent 20 years saying she’d never comeback because of the demands of the show yet she came back now. I don’t think we’ll get that chance again.

warning in advance as campy as the show is have tissues at the ready just incase, especially in later seasons. One episode in season 5 actually makes me cry just thinking about it too long. Those who've seen the show know the episodes im talking about.

Enjoy A little fyi for someone who watched Ted Lasso: - Rupert Giles was the Rupert we Buffy fans associated Anthony Stewart Head with and loved him for. So, it was something to get used to when he showed up in Ted Lasso playing the villainous Rupert Mannion...'Why did they have to name him Rupert????'

When I saw on youtube that you were beginning to react to Buffy, I could not come subscribe quick enough. Yes, the 1st season is quite dated and kind of cheesy but it does set up the characters dynamics. Season 2 introduces some fan favorite characters, and half way through the season it jumps to a whole new level.
