I have to say this finale has to be one of the best animation finales of all time. The way it makes you question everything and feel for every character. I cry every time I see that final scene of Azula chained up and crying. Like god damn I hate her but she truly is, like the rest of them, just a kid. Just as brainwashed as Zuko. Seeing her in agony broke my heart. The scene where Aang couldn't redirect the lightning at the fire lord...the beautiful animations of the White Lotus fight and the absolutely GORGEOUS animation and music of the Zuko vs Azula fight...the scene where Zuko saves Katara...so much open weeping on my part. It still makes me cry after so many watches.

Hannah Gs

Also, I loved your thoughts on Katara! The mom of the group gets annoying, but she is VITAL to their survival. Without Katara's undivided attention and devotion and care, they would not have made it. She is such an important and complex character. I was annoyed by her as a child, but now as an adult, I see her true value. And Zuko's mother's plotline is continued in the comics which I will always recommend!

Monnad

Really good show, like rewatching it again with your perspective in the mix. Also my own grown up perspective, looking forward to any new material :D

After reflecting on it a day, I really think that her watching Legend of Korra comes down to whether (after a break) She feels that she wants to see what happens in the world after the events of ATLA. Putting aside all the noise about how well it's written and whatever else, this is what the show covers. What happens in the 70 years following the end of the war, and how Aang and Zuko reshape the world together. Throw in some characters that I'm 100% sure that Natalie will love, and I think there is something there that she'd enjoy watching. That being said, the fact that we are still arguing over the show 8 years after it ended, partly exposes that they didn't round it out as well as they could have. The whole avatar fandom has arguments. But the arguments around Korra are far more vociferous. And I think that makes it more interesting, because who knows how Natalie will view the situation? She might fall on the side of the fandom that absolutely loves it. Who knows.

Tarquin Pillay

i would suggest that you do watch Korra, the story continues and is still good. compared to ATLA Legend of Korra isn't better but its still very good. the highs in Korra is written really well. if you enjoy the series as much as I did, then you don't really feel the lows. Korra has a more serious tone, there are a few humour moments but its mainly more serious dealing with more serious topics. otherwise if u want to keep the anime series, id recommend Jujutsu Kaisen, its only 24 eps and it comes in English dub or Japanese sub (if you want a more authentic watch). its an extremely well written show that balances the humour and seriousness of the show. Jujutsu Kaisen is a very fun show that I think you'd enjoy :)

Kampy

Honestly, I'd give Korra a recommendation. It had a hard act to follow, and is honestly a good show in it's own right. People really tend to exaggerate the stuff that doesn't work as well.

Florian M

I really hope you watch korra at some point. it puts an interesting spin on the world, it's similar enough to be recognized as a spin-of, but its also different enough to be considered its own thing.

Sam

I love Korra and agree with others that say it’s a really good show, but I would also agree on not watching it for a while( if you are going to watch it.) I would say to have a break from avatar stuff after finishing the Last Airbender, just to be able to fully let it sink in and appreciate it

Emi P

Korra is a good show! and if you're worried i will ruin the legacy of TLAB it wont. it set years later and it follows the next avatar and her friends!!

Geoffrey of Monmouth

As others have said, Korra is a sequel to Avatar in name only. Korra is the next avatar, 70 years into the future after Aang's death. It's her story.

First of all, thank you so much for sharing this journey with us! It's been a blast reliving ATLA through your eyes, and I can't wait to see what you react to next :D As for Korra: I sincerely believe that it is a fantastic show in its own right, separate from the connections it has to ATLA. I can't recommend it enough, even as I would acknowledge that it has some steep low points, especially in one particular season. However, I personally feel that BOTH the highs and lows of Korra are greater than the ones in ATLA. While the latter is more consistently good, there are parts of Korra that I appreciate more than anything in ATLA. All in all, I think you would really like the show, when and if you decide to give it a watch. Until then: Stay golden!

Louis Miller

Brilliant journey with you with this being only my second ATLA watch through and my first Patreon subscription. Thank you so much for sharing it. Seen a few comments moaning about Korra. I loved most of Korra but the second season was just not good at all. And the rest of it was just not up to ATLA level. I completely understand not watching it and keeping ATLA as its own special thing.

Ryan Spangler

Thank you for watching this series, I have looked forward to every new episode that you've shared! I do want to drop in my support for your viewing Legend of Korra as well. I totally understand wanting to let the avatar series rest for now. Personally, I believe Korra is the superior show, which I realize can be a hot take to some. I think Korra at large was plagued with a lot of misunderstanding and disappointment from the fanbase who wanted more ATLA. Most of the negative reviews come from season 2 which is absolutely the weakest season, but still hold some of the most memorable episodes from either series. Also many say that Korra as a character is extremely unlikable. She's a headstrong, stubborn, naïve, and reckless woman, and I'm sure you can understand tell where that chauvinist opinion comes from based on that information... But that aside, her journey is completely opposite from Aang, and it's about her finding her center and her connection to the spiritual. It's an absolutely beautiful story that deals with very real and heavy topics that are extremely relevant to today's reality. Plus it has some of the most compelling "villains" I've seen in storytelling. You would do yourself a disservice missing out on it, and I highly recommend watching it at some point.

NateLocke

If you wanna know about what happened with Zuko's mom and everything post ATLA, that stuff is in the comics. I'd be down for a Korra reaction though it's best not to get the hopes too high. It's a good show for what it is but it's not ATLA. The second season is a slog but otherwise it's a fun show with more political themes and honestly gorgeous animation. Season 2 is only rough because it was a transitional period from a one season passion project to a 4 season long TV show and there were some really harsh growing pains. If you end up watching it on here or at all, I hope you do enjoy it and I'd be so down to watch it with everyone, if not then eh it's not like you're missing much. Everyone's story in ATLA is pretty much finished in Korra so it's more comparable to something like the transition from Jojo Part 4 to 5 if I were to compare it to anything. TL;DR Glad to see how much you enjoyed ATLA. If you plan on going into Korra, try to look at it as its own show rather than more ATLA because that's not what Korra is. Korra ends a bit weak but it's fun. And to fill in the gaps in between the two shows, definitely check out the comics. They're pretty good albeit not necessary to understand everything in Korra or to bookend ATLA.

Jack Powell

This was such an amazing series, and that finale is just spectacular. Thank you so much. Korra is the next avatar in the cycle, and has a much more adult feel. For one, she goes through proper training to become the avatar, and it follows her along several adventures as she develops into an adult. She faces several different and more personal challenges to Aang and starts off much less likeable but really goes through some trauma and growth. We also get to see the fruits of the labour of Aang and zuko and the world they build together, and many of the characters we know appear occasionally as much older adults. Definitely one to watch and maybe even better once you've had a break. Or just dive right in immediately :D Thanks again!

GnoChris

I joined for the avatar content. As soon as I was caught up, I watched all the marvel reactions and all the other shows and movies that I loved that I wanted to see your reaction to. I've really enjoyed watching all of these along with you. Alas I joined your patreon because I was excited to be more ineractive with the content, watch new videos early, and participate in polls. I'm really glad that I have. :)

Ev

I found your channel and patreon from your Avatar videos and I have really enjoyed watching your other videos as well. Hopefully you decide to watch Korra eventually, although I understand you wanting to wait :)

Jordan Fields

Legend of Korra is not as good as ATLA, however the third season of Korra is the best overall season of either show, imo. It has some low points but Korra is still a good show worth a watch, even if it's on your own time.

Mason Fikkert

I know I'm in the minority opinion on this, but I would certainly support you not watching Korra. It's an objectively worse show, with pretty poor writing overall and damaging retcons embedded into it. And this is coming from someone who's favorite show ever is ATLA. I think a lot of people's love for the Avatar world prevent them from being able to make fair criticisms about Korra. It has its moments, but overall I find it to be a massive dissapointment.

Tom McMurtry

I was briefly confused by the episode order numbers just coming in to catch up on patreon (as I'm used to the numbers going up to 21) but it looks like you've watched everything and have just kept the numbers, but described parts with those, and then once finished with parts, you go up to the next number. I don't reccomend Korra, but if you do watch it I reccomend leaving it for awhile so that you give ATLA time to breath and warmly fill your head and soul with fond memories.

Tom McMurtry

Korra to me feels like season 8 & a few of the bad parts of 7 and 6 of game of thrones. And I thought the mad queen hypothesis a likely arc many seasons in the past, and so that side of things was not unexpected.

Naaman Voegtle

You should absolutely watch legend of korra, it is a different show in the same universe. I personally dont believe it to be superior to avatar, but still a good show with great characters.

crawlie

So glad you watched this show, it's clear you now know why the series is so close to our hearts. The show is a just a work of art, and punches far above it's weight as a "children's show". 100% with you when it comes to Katara. I just can't see people complaining about her in this season, I love her. Maybe in the first season, but it's the same with all the characters - they're all extremely flawed when we first meet them (yes, even Toph). That's the beauty of this show, they all grow past their flaws and become who they really are. Definitely think you're right about people maybe not liking Katara because she stands in the way of Zuko joining the group, but it's for a perfectly understandable reason. The other reason people might not like her is because there is a section of the fandom that were really wanting Zuko and Katara to become a couple, so there could be some resentment there too. Korra has great moments, but getting some distance from ATLA is 100% a good idea to try and avoid comparisons. It's a different show, where they're trying something different (like the Star Wars prequels compared to the original movies). I'd definitely like to rewatch it with your thoughts, but no hurry for sure. Thanks again for the time and effort you put in to these!

swoop_13-37

Please tell me Natalie knows it's mark Hamil playing ozi.

matthew h

I've really enjoyed this journey thru ATLA. I hope you'll continue with Korra. It seems to me that most of the "mixed reviews" are coming from people that expected it to be a continuation of ATLA. While its in the same world and has some references to ATLA its a separate show with new characters and their own journey. I think its silly to try and say which show is better, they're both really good and I think Korra is a great character.

Lawson

feeling so emotional that this journey is over 🥺 thanks for sharing this beautiful experience with us nat ❤️

Thatguy1010

I’ve watched ATLA numerous times through. Cried each time and remind myself that “this is a kids show. You’re crying over a kids show” and just goes to show how versatile this show is that it can reach such a wide variety of people. Such a great journey. Hope you watch Legend of Korra!

MoulinNoir

What a great watch along, thank you for the great content as always! You said if a bunch of people in the comments said... so, i would totally watch LOK with you, for sure. I don't think i've ever seen a single other show do the kind of character arcs we got in ATLA (my gods, the journey Zuko goes on, amirite?) but LOK is interesting for the world building and lore (wanna know about the first Avatar ever?) and it's nice to check in with some of the ATLA kids as elders. The new characters are charming and the story is engaging, i vote yes please :)

bofc

PLEASEEEEE WATCH KORRA

Mark

Definitely check out Korra… but give it time to let it all soak in before going into that series. Time pass then go back kinda feel how we felt when it came out, not immediately jump into it. Korra has good content but what I think really hurt it is going a female route with the character which wasn’t bad but people at the time of release seen it as tarnishing a great series. Her tribulations over time make sense. No guy sees it that way. They see main female immediately assume it’s bad series.

Daniel Gregg

I'd say Korra is definitely worth watching. ATLA was so good that it raised expectations impossibly high for the follow up, and the creators weren't given the three seasons to plan for. They were given one season at a time, so it's not as well planned out in terms of a total show through line. Korra also tackles more challenging material. Ozai can be evil without any really good reason because the show's designed for 8-12 year olds, while Korra tackles stuff more targeted towards 16 year olds.

Katherinne Heller

It is true. I think avatar is the first show one realizes that the antagonist is the real protagonist of the whole show. You should really watch korra

Amy Hanson

I LOVE ATLA! It is such a beautiful show and compelling storytelling. I have rewatched it by myself SOOOO many times, let alone every reaction I can find. Korra is, interesting. They explore more adult themes than ATLA explored, mostly due to the age of the main cast and the target demographic of ATLA. I am glad I know what happens in it, but I have NEVER wanted to rewatch it by myself and only unless someone else was experiencing it for the 1st time. For the first few seasons of a reaction I just watch the “good” episodes and leave the rest alone. It is worth watching and I do love some of the characters, (NOT KORRA) and the expanded world building.

Omegawhite

Korra is very underrated. It is a different show, with a completely different take on the world, main characters, and story arc. Its such a departure that people that wanted ATLA P.2 knee-jerk didn't like it. But its a great story! More mature from the start, the antagonist are well thought out and the "good guys" can't always know what the right thing to do is. Its absolutely worth watching.

Captain’s Vlog

Spoiler free Full disclosure so you’ll understand… avatar was a huge success and Nickelodeon was eager to continue the story… the creators originally wanted to do a movie about zuko finding his mother but decided that aangs story ended perfectly how it was, and they didn’t want to risk ruining the show by opening it up again… so they told the story of zukos mother in the avatar comic book series instead… but they did have an idea for the next avatar, and wanted to make it very different than aang. They decided to make it about a girl avatar… buuut Nickelodeon viewed avatar the last Airbender as a boys show… They thought that boys wouldn’t want to watch a show about a girl character… So they were hesitant when the team pitched the new idea… but the team refused to change the main character… they were convinced that the next avatar needed to be a woman… they convinced Nickelodeon to give it a chance, but they would only give the one season… they were afraid that the show wouldn’t get renewed for another season… so they had to fit the entire plot into just one season… the season was a success so Nickelodeon gave them another season… the two creators had no clue if Nickelodeon would continue to renew the show and were afraid that they’re luck would run out so each season has its own villain and it’s own stand alone story(though they do follow the same characters)… a lot of fans were salty about this because it lead to a lot of the character development being kind of rushed… also many people didn’t like Korra… but don’t let the negativity fool you… it’s a really good show… the last Airbender is amazing, and it’s impossible for Korra to match that but it’s in no way bad… it may not have reached the originals heights but it’s still very very good…

Captain’s Vlog

It’s still a critically acclaimed show… not watching it, would be like refusing to watch Spider-Man no way home because you’ve heard that nothing can surpass avengers end game…

Scott Kinne

any of seasons 2 thru 4 of korra we’re nearly just as good as any of aangs seasons. it’s just season 1 that is real meh

Evan Pierce

These might be the most artistically beautiful fight scenes ever. 10/10 finale, and an elegant solution to stopping Ozai.

jessie neurotica

Korra gets off to a rocky start with book 1 being good but not great, book 2 was meh, but 3 and 4 were absolutely incredible. especially book 4, episode 2 "Korra Alone"

jessie neurotica

my only big problem with Katara was how she pulled a Hulk Hogan against Hama's bloodbending. other than that, i feel she was just fine in her role.

travis keaton

You should definitely watch The Legend of Korra. It's so good. You're gonna love it. Also, it definitely is not Alien 3. lol

NotAFAN

One of my favorite shows ever. I think the show is a masterpiece.

Banana Hammocks

from the way that you watched avatar i think you will enjoy korra for a ton of the character work. Tenzin, who is aangs son is an incredible character who rivals anyone in ATLA, the voice actor is JK simmons and he nails every single scene from happy to emotional. but the worldbuilding and relationship work is definitely not as good, in Korra they lose head writer Aaron Ehasz and it shows. it is 100% worth the watch though and through its problems i think you will like it

Jundae

This show is so amazing. One of my most prized possessions is an Uncle Iroh funko pop that I got signed by the second voice actor Greg Baldwin. Before he signed the funko we had a whole ten minute conversation about Zuko and Iroh and the show as a whole. It is one of the memories I will cherish forever.

James Race

I really love Korra even if everyone else doesnt, but consider this my vote for you to try it out. I have had other friends be worried about the show but I actually make exactly the alien/aliens comparison there are similar themes and lore continuity but they are, IMHO wholly seperate experiences that dont really affect the quality of each others experience, unlike say the star wars trilogies.

Jimathai

ALL time favorite show... just ahead of The Wire and GoT... First watched it when I was 32... ended up getting the first 2 seasons when downloading torrents was a thing. Lime Wire I believe. Didn't even know what it was. And man, what a pleasant surprise and beautiful journey. Was so blown away that I made it my mission to tell as many other adults about it as possible since not many would be watching Nick. Would invite folks over for drinks or trees and then casually slip it on... They would get hooked and we would make a weekly "activity" out of it. Only one person didn't absolutely love it... the other 10 or 15 would then go out and spread the word. I love how much the creators trusted and respected the kids in their audience... There was so much going on and so much depth involved in everything... And its stellar in every aspect. The artwork is tops, the writing is amazing, humor was subtle and constant even with so many other emotions swirling... The whole cast and especially the child actors were nothing short of brilliant ... stellar on all fronts... but what I love most about the show is its gets better every time you watch it.

A2Rhombus

Finally finished watching through this reaction series. I really hope you're thinking about watching Korra in the near future. It's really its own show and it's really good

PabloGreeb

tbh korra is still good enough to watch

Anonymous

Gotta watch Korra. All Avatar universe things are worth a watch except of course the tragedy that was the M. Knight Shamalammadingdong movie.
