Let me know if you like these kinds of talks. Maybe i should record more videos on next years Superbooth 😅In this video, I talked about my experience at Superbooth in Berlin, especially discovering a new plugin suite called Atelier by GRM Tools. It’s a semi-modular VST effect instrument focused on high-quality sound design and ambience. The design reminded me of Bitwig’s Grid due to its modular structure and visual clarity. I was impressed by the intuitive interface, multi-channel routing, and modulation features. This was the first public demo, and it should be released around September.

Key Points:

GRM Tools’ new plugin suite is called Atelier, a semi-modular effect instrument.

Strong focus on sound design and ambient/cinematic soundscapes.

Modular interface similar to Bitwig’s Grid, with draggable modulations and clear visuals.

Allows multi-voice setups and multi-channel routing, suitable for surround sound.

Developed by a small team, including a musician for practical design choices.

Sound quality is very high, even in noisy booth conditions.

Expected release: September; public demo was shown for the first time at Superbooth.

Reminds me of Unfiltered Audio’s Lion, but with a tighter focus and better quality.

Why This SMALL Company Stole The Show at Superbooth!

Superbooth is over, and I discovered by accident a small booth by an old company showing some new and interesting tools in a nice semi-modular package. This is coming out in September this year, and I can't wait to try it out. I was really blown away by this. I've owned GRMTools plugins it seems like forever. (They were one of the first plugin bundles that I bought back in the 90s.) Though they are still on my current computer, the UI/UX has not been updated in at least 25 years and I rarely use them now. For better or worse, the UI/UX of a plugin, DAW, etc., really makes a big difference for me. The UI/UX redesign and update shown here is outstanding. They also introduced a new plugin that looks amazing. I am really looking forward to this.

GRM tools is back?? Super! Or maybe they never left, used these GRM tools on my PC many years ago and still unbelievably creative for sound design.

A few more details here: https://cdm.link/grm-atelier-sneak-peak/ (In the embedded video, in French, Matthias says that it might sell for 150€ though the marketing department didn't tell him to say this.) By the way, GRM is Pierre Schaeffer’s research group, so this is basically the place where Musique concrète (and a whole approach to electroacoustic music) was born. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musique_concrète#Groupe_de_Recherches_Musicales I don't recall using their original tools despite hanging out with Schaeffer fans when they came out. Maybe because we had more connections with IRCAM, which was also the place where interesting tools were being built (like Miller Puckette’s original version of Max). IRCAM still releases interesting tools though they tend to be clunky in terms of UX, including commercial ones.
