Yo, before I make a video about this new free plugin, I’m giving you early access so you can share feedback and report any serious bugs. The video and free public download will follow soon. So, what is it?

Polarity-Recorder continuously captures the last 1-20 minutes of audio, so you never lose a great take or unexpected sound.

Unlike simpler rolling recorders such as Bird’s Rolling Sampler, it also includes a full editor with cropping, fades, normalization, reversing, looping, undo and redo. Bar and beat markers let you snap selections precisely to the host tempo for cleaner loops.

You can preview and organize your recordings, then export them as clearly named WAV files using custom metadata such as project name, sample type, BPM, key and take number. An integrated clip browser also keeps track of your exported files.

Available for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Let me know what you think: https://polarity.productions/polarity-recorder/

ooh... I was hoping you were going to release this. Thanks! Kicking the tires and taking for a test drive...

Dirk

First thanks for keeping it accessible for everyone! I´m not sure if its the right place for feedback? But here you go: i installed it today... on Windows 10Pro 64bit (non AVX2-CPU and therefore Bitwig 5.3) when i try to start the Standalone .exe... nothing happens and neither Clap nor VST3 appear in Bitwig... just so you know... hope i can run and test a later version

polarity_music

Okay strange. Just re-installed it from the downloads and still works for me (also win10). maybe try and drag the ".clap" or ".vst3" file into the Bitwig chain on an empty track and see if it works. make sure Bitwig scans C:\Program Files\Common Files\clap and C:\Program Files\Common Files\vst3 but that you cant run the standalone is pretty strange. mhh

Dirk

dragging does not work... gives me a ⊘ symbol... all other clap/vst3 can be dragged into the chain with no Problem

polarity_music

strange. can you send me the C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Bitwig Studio\engine.log ? or at least the important parts. thanks! -> hey@polarity.productions

Dirk

i started a fresh project created an instrument track, then i dragged PaulXStretch into the Chain... deleted it... then tried to drag both the clap And vst3 into the chain it showed the ⊘ symbol again and nothing happened... then i dragged your sc-dark plugin into the chain and it loaded again perfectly... i looked into the logfile and nothing was logged at all inbetween PaulXStretch and SC-dark... i could send you the log ofc but it shows absolutely nothing

Dirk

sent it anyways ^^

Awesome plugin with plenty of useful features! Much more powerful than the $19 Rolling Sampler. Thank you for making it free! There is however a problem with the standalone version: it doesn't let me enable the Mic Input and therefore it won't record anything from my microphones or my external gear. I'm on Win10 64bit and I use an M-Audio AIR 192|14 interface.

polarity_music

thanks! you need to enable "Mic Input" from the settings menu. Then you need to select the "Settings -> Input Device" and disable the "Settings -> Audio Output" to prevent feedback.

Ktlin

Yes, I did all that but it doesn't work. When I click on the Settings->Mic Input to enable the mic input nothing happens. A check mark should appear next to "Mic Input" and I should get the signal recorded but no check mark appears next to "Mic Input" (so the Mic Input doesn't get enabled) and no signal is recorded. Also, whatever option I select under Settings -> Input Device (like "Line 1/2", "Line 3/4" and so on) it will revert back to "Multichannel". I'm not sure if this has something to do with the fact that I can't enable the Mic Input but it might.

Ktlin

Not only that but today I installed it on my laptop (also with Win10 64bit) and I encountered the EXACT same problem as Dirk mentioned above: the standalone version doesn't start at all and Bitwig doesn't recognize neither the VST version nor the CLAP version. They don't even appear in the Bitwig browser. And if I try to drag&drop the .clap or .vst3 files in Bitwig (as you recommended to Dirk) it doesn't work, Bitwig won't let me drop them on an empty track (I get a ⊘ symbol just like Dirk).

Ktlin

I also tried it with Reaper. Reaper doesn't recognize the vst3 version, but, as opposed to Bitwig, at least it recognizes the clap version. However, the moment I load the clap version Reaper instantly crashes. It's the only plugin in my collection that manages to crash Reaper. So, there are definitely serious problems with this plugin. Hopefuly you can fix them.

Ktlin

Yes, I have an i7-3610QM on this laptop which is not an AVX2 CPU

Ktlin

Yesss! It works now! The standalone version as well as both the vst3 and clap versions (in Bitwig as well as in Reaper). Unfortunately, it's completely unusable: it maxes out the CPU! No matter what version I open (standalone, vst3, clap, in Bitwig or in Reaper) the CPU stays constantly at around 80%, even if I stop the recording in the plugin (and even if I bypass the plugin!), and the GUI is suuuper sluggish. :( Strangely the DSP performance meter in Bitwig doesn't show the CPU being maxed out but Reaper does. And here's the interesting part: if I just close the GUI (but let the plugin running) the CPU usage drops massively from 80% down to around 1.5-2%. This happens both in Bitwig and in Reaper but doesn't happen with the standalone version if I minimize the window. So it seems to me like there's some issue with the GUI.

Ktlin

Unfortunately it's even worse. :( Now the CPU stays constantly at 92-93% instead of 80-81% with the 0.1.8 update. I tested the standalone version and the vst3 and clap in Bitwig

polarity_music

haha 😂 sorry I can’t test it locally. It runs fine in all cases. maybe I try to get a system with an old cpu for this

Ktlin

I see. Does it use OpenGL ? If it does it might have something to do with that, possibly.

Ktlin

I also installed the 0.1.9 update on my main computer and unfortunately it still doesn't let me enable the Mic Input. Whatever settings I use for the Input/Output Device, Input/Output Channels and Bus Layout the Mic Input just can't be enabled so the plugin doesn't record anything. :(
