Would love to see how you made this from scratch. Sounds awesome man 👍

I like this. A lot. For one thing, it feels like a short yet rich conversation. Part of that comes from the “interventions” by the clarinet-like square wave in a different tonality from the main melodic texture. It’s also a matter of having a cohesive overall structure without leading too much attention to that arc. It’s not like the stereotypical buildup-climax-resolution that we get from Greek theatre. It’s more playful and meaning-laden. While I’m not that big a fan of saturation and clipping, it works rather well in your æsthetics. Even the visuals are interesting. I’m so naïve about this that I simply don’t know how you’ve processed the screencap to make it feel like this. It’s almost like those 3D models of forthcoming products if they were to use a matte finish instead of their usually glossiness. Very fitting too as you don’t want to call too much attention to those visuals. Back to the “conversational” aspect… I like the fact that you’ve manually tweaked (at least some of) the scale quantizers. In a way, one might argue that it makes it semi-generative. That, to me, is a worthwhile path to follow. Straight generative can be fun, in some situations. Or one can reprocess generated content. What I find more satisfying in my own practice is when it becomes an exchange between the “algorithm” and my own playing. (A simple example is playing with rotating chords, as Michael Brecker did using a setup invented by Robby Kilgore.) Now, it’s quite likely that you often tweak things in your generative patches as you play (with) them. In this case, I noticed because I was paying just enough attention to get both the oneiric dimension and the didactic effect. All this to say… Good job! And thanks for the patch.

(Also, I forgot to tease you about the 13x11 grid…)

(Ha! Guess I was wrong about several details. For instance, there’s only one scale quantizer. Makes sense. And what I heard as a square wave might have been the filtered triangle wave. Although, in my defense, there’s some waveshaping going on, though some of it is through feedback, Very interesting patch! Deleting modules one by one is an edifying experience.)
