Since the international challengers have been introduced, I will note that all of their names are different than the IRL horses, similar to other non playable Umas in the anime due to CyGames not receiving permission to use the horse's name. The names are noted below. Toni Bianca (Italy) is the IRL horse Tony Bin. Toni won the Prix de L'arc de Triomphe in 1987, which is significant since to this day, not a single Japanese racehorse has ever won this race despite the many, many attempts to do so. Michelle My Baby (USA) is the IRL horse My Big Boy. In Belno Light's report, she notes that Michelle won a big American race recently; this is most likely the Bernard Baruch Handicap, which at the time was a G1 race. Moonlight Lunacy (UK) is the IRL horse Moon Madness. In this time, Moonlight recently won the British G1 Yorkshire Cup. Ellerslie Pride (New Zealand) is the IRL horse Bonecrusher. The Uma name is a reference to the statue made for Bonecrusher, which has a plaque that notes "Bonecrusher: The Pride of Ellerslie" due to the number of wins and overall top placements at Ellerslie racecourse in NZ. Obey Your Master (USA) is the IRL horse Pay The Butler. I won't go too much into the details as the show will explain some of the reasoning of why Obey came over to compete in the Japan Cup, but I will note the general differences between American and Japanese horseracing. While the two scenes does have racecourses for a wide variety of distances and track types, generally the USA's most popular and prestigious races are dirt courses at mile to medium distances; for example, the USA's Classic Triple Crown are all dirt races between approx. 1.9km to 2.4km. Japan's horseracing scene tends to make the turf races at medium to long distance the most popular and prestigious; the Japanese Classic Triple Crown are all turf races between 2km and 3km.

Here's a fun easter egg from episode 16: if you go to 21:24 in Yui's reaction vid, you can actually see Tamamo's in-game stats in her "career run" on the bottom of the clipboard. It's hard to make out, but it notes that Tamamo in this "run" currently has a 906 Speed, 906 Stamina, 780 Power, 652 Guts, and 407 Wit.

Super Creek's trainer, Fumino Nase, is supposed to be loosely based on Japanese jockey Yutaka Take (and I do mean loosely as Take is male and not a trainer lol). Nowadays, Take is arguably considered one of the best, if not the best, Japanese jockey at over 4500 career wins, is still an active jockey, and has jockeyed alot of horses that are in the Umamusume game and anime, but at this point in time, Take was considered a young prodigy with alot of pressure from the public due to how great his father was at jockeying. Super Creek was the horse that gave him his 1st G1 win at the Kikuka Sho. Though it is funny to imagine the actual person being bricked up whenever Super Creek is close by, just like how Fumino froze up when Creek does some ara ara mommy stuff lol.

Gold City showed up in actually the very first race you see in Cinderella Gray: the 1st race is the Japanese Derby, in which you get to see Gold City make a spurt at the homestretch, but lost steam at the end and lost. In the world of Umamusume, she's a model (based on the idea that the IRL horse being considered extremely good looking) that tends to fall short when racing. A big part of her character in the game is that she wants to prove to the world that she can be a great racer and prove that "she's more than just her looks" as others in-universe tends to not take her goals seriously, which irritates her. She has a tsundere kind of relationship with the Trainer (aka you) since you are one of the few that takes her dreams of being a great racer seriously.

Even though umu isn't my cup of tea, I can respect the love and detail they pull from the game.
