I believe Obey Your Master's research for the Japan Cup to being borderline obsessive is based on a Japanese newspaper that claimed that the jockey of the IRL horse, Pay The Butler, did something similar to an almost stalker-ish manner. However, no real evidence of this is known to exist to justify it, but Obey Your Master's joker like persona is a nod to this rumor.

Toni Bianca mentioning settling down as the Ruler of Europe is reference to how the IRL horse, Tony Bin, stayed and was sold in Japan due to the leg injury where he got to work making kids lol. The IRL horse is the father of many horses depicted in Umamusume (both in the games and some in the various anime series) such as Air Groove, Jungle Pocket, North Flight, and Winning Ticket. Also fun fact: there's two times during the Japan Cup race where Toni envisions these 2 Umas racing (believe its one time in ep 17 and another in ep 18). The left Uma is Katsuragi Ace, the 4th Japan Cup winner, the 1st Japanese horse to ever win the Japan Cup, and the 1st Uma to ever beat Symboli Rudolf in a race; that also while doing a complete runaway strategy (basically a "super front runner" and risky strategy that tries to go so out far in front near the beginning and middle of the race that by the late part of the race, even if Ace gases out, is so far out in front that no one can catch up in time). The right Uma is, of course, Symboli Rudolf, who is the 5th Japan Cup winner and the 2nd Japanese Uma to win the Japan Cup.

The giant Symboli Rudolf plush at the Nakayama Racecourse is in reference to the real racecourse having a giant plush of the Symboli Rudolf horse. The Emperor is immortalized at Nakayama Racecourse since Rudolf won the Arima Kinen twice in a row, as well as the horse's overall dominance in his career.

That scene where Musaka explains flow in episode 19 really reminds of something you'd see in a Studio Shaft anime lol (like Monogatari with the sudden lack of shading and quick text on the screen).

Dicta Striker's Zone is in reference to the nickname given to the IRL horse, Soccer Boy. The horse was nicknamed "Bullet Shot" as the horse had an explosive spurt during the late race. Some other fun facts about Dicta Striker: the name given to the Uma version is likely a reference to Soccer Boy's father, Dictus. Soccer Boy would be the father to 2 notable Umamusume to 2 prominent Umas in the game and anime: NTR (Narita Top Road) and Hishi Miracle. Soccer Boy is also Stay Gold's nephew, meaning that he's in a way related to Gold Ship lol.
