This will be a good challenge for me today..

The bane of my existence

Susan

It also makes me homesick for New England….painting lighthouses and covered bridges. We don’t see much of either in Arizona. Lol

I visited this lighthouse 2 years ago. It is located at the south west end of Acadia National Park. Beautiful place.

Nicole Lomerson

A picture of this exact spot just popped up in my FB memories today from 12 years ago. I need to get back there.

Susan

Yes rocks, and then today I did enjoy those rocks in your painting.. when I sketch them, they all look the same…like round blobs. So I like how you sketch them.. you are so relaxed. I am aiming for one of your retreats.

One of my favorite lighthouses! I go to Bar Harbor for week in August every year and visit this lighthouse either by car or on the lighthouse tour by boat. This year, we will be there in two weeks, the last week of August! I have sketched Bass Harbor Light, and painted it in my watercolor class with Rick Surowicz. We had a special class on creating a full sheet watercolor painting. It was a six-week session. We started with thumbnail sketches, then an 8 x 10, then a quarter sheet and finally a 22" x 30" full sheet painting of the lighthouse! My version was a full view from the water as we passed by on the lighthouse tour boat. Here's one of my paintings from that class that I framed: https://flic.kr/p/2qagmsS

Awesome job! That’s a much different point of view - so many pics I have seen have the view my husband took.

Patty Evans

Thanks! Yes, this is a view that you only get if you are passing by on a boat. We love to take the Lighthouse Tour with Bar Harbor Whale Watch Co. The view of the lighthouse in your tutorial can be seen, as you know, by walking to the bottom of the granite steps beside the lighthouse. It's a great view, too! I hope I have time to give your tutorial a try. Loved your fish shack in Boothbay Harbor, also. I have that one cued up to try, too! Thanks!

Christine Garner

Fun and relaxing to paint. Gotta go there someday! Thanks :)

Bonnie Grove

Thanks Ellen! I think I found more success with the rocks using the flat brush!
